Drogba: I'm better than Eto'o

The Elephants meet tournament hosts Egypt in Cairo with Drogba hoping to build on his match-winning semi-final strike against Nigeria.

Despite his impressive tournament, the Chelsea striker is riled by suggestions he is inferior to Barcelona's Eto'o, the current African Player of the Year who leads the goalscoring charts with five.

"I believe I am the best player in Africa and I am going to prove it tomorrow," said Drogba, whose club have been linked with a move for the Cameroonian.

"I am better than Samuel Eto'o, the only difference between me and Eto'o is that he knows how to publicise himself.

"If you are talking about football, I am a better player."

The Blues forward has scored three times in Egypt but believes he can match, and even beat Eto'o's mark against the Pharaohs.

He added: "I want to win this title, but not only that I also want to be the tournament's top scorer, so expect some goals from me."

Drogba's words are sure to stoke the fire ahead of a titanic encounter which will decide who will be crowned kings of Africa.

Drogba carried Marsielle already...He int score plenty for Chelsea but his work rate is incredible...I don't think he is better than Eto'o...None of them is the best forward in the World.

how 2 games go decide who is better between 2 individuals? dat really eh making no sense at all.

who is the better footballer...I DOh KNOW...dat is a subjective thing. But one fact remains...Eto'o is a better goalscorer any day of the week. He scores more goals at every level....club and country. Even now in the African Cup of Nations, Drogba need 2 extra games to try and reach Eto'o goal tally...and he hadda score a hattrick in the final to pass him. Small Magician say Eto'o looks good because ah Ronaldinho...last time I check Ronaldinho didn't play for Cameroun and Eto'o was also bussin' de net at Mallorca. So that argument buss. Drogba have a chip on his shoulder because the general concensus is that Eto'o is better...that is why the man is African footballer of the year....and that is why Mourinho and Chelsea want Eto'o bad.

doh try dat. dem cricketers have big egos all over the world and always fighting...but noone cares if 2 cricketers fight...dat newsflash would die quicker than a bucket ah kentucky.

see what happens when you play with nature..tooo much activator/Straightner... interfering with the man brain. better than Mr. Eto  :rotfl: dat must go dong as a classic.

I'll be bold enough to say that Eto is probably the deadliest striker in game today.

Well said Gladman. I wasn't looking for Drogba there atall.

Anyway Eto'o have he number anyday. If Eto'o was playing for Chelsea, he would be like Lampard - playin every game.

the are both very good players and are equal in my opinion.  Drogba carries his team while Eto'o doesnt.  I think that Drogba only reacted like that cause he was fed up of all the comparissions.

But u have to remember, Ivory Coast qualified for the world cup in from of cameroon, while they also triumphed over them in the quarters. Part 4 will be the champions league next week (i am a chelsea man) Drogba has lampard while Eto'o has Ronaldinho, but they both scored heavily berfore they were paired with these midfielders.

Ps: If Eto was at Chelsea, he would have been rotated with Crespo the same way Drogba is.

ah love it!!

I surprised this have so much debate. In my mind there is no comparison, Eto'o is streets ahead of Drogba.

Just compare the first touch of the two players and you'll see that Drogba is not ready yet.

drogba just proved in the african cup final why he is not better than eto'o.

drogba just missed an open goal during the match and a penalty during the shootout. his team lost.

that left him two goals short of what eto'o accomplished in even two less matches.

drogba should never have opened his mouth. he embarassed himself.

Drogba fails to score player support for run at Ivory Coast FA presidency
insideworldfootball.com.

Former Ivory Coast icon Didier Drogba’s hopes of becoming the next president of his country’s football federation has suffered a serious setback after the failure of his fellow players to support his candidacy.

Drogba, who played in three World Cups with the Ivory Coast and twice helped them to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, is one of three candidates standing for election in September but is struggling to gain the support he needs.

He was expecting to be backed by the footballers’ union, headed by former teammate Cyrille Domoraud, but they are supporting Idriss Diallo, one of the two other candidates.

“The majority of our members decided to grant our endorsement to the list led by Mr. Idriss Diallo,” said a statement by the Association of Ivorian Footballers, adding they were remaining loyal to a grouping formed three years ago to contest the elections, before Drogba had declared his candidacy.

FIFPro suspends Ivorian players' union for not backing Drogba's FA candidacy
AFP News

Abidjan (AFP) - Global footballers' union FIFPro has suspended the Ivory Coast Footballers Association (AFI) for failing to endorse Didier Drogba's bid to head the country's football federation.

In a letter dated Thursday and addressed to the president of the AFI Cyrille Domoraud, FIFPro said it was suspending his organisation "with immediate effect."

The letter said that this "exceptional intervention" was motivated by "extreme urgency".

The AFI decided last week to not sponsor Drogba to run for the presidency of the Ivorian federation (FIF) in the September 5 election and instead backed Idriss Diallo, the current FIF vice-president.

Candidates need an endorsement from one of five Ivorian football organisations to enter the presidential race. With only the association of medical staff yet to announce their endorsement, the former Chelsea and Marseille striker does not have a sponsor.

In its scathing letter, FIFPro attacked what it called the "iniquitous decision" of the AFI saying it is likely "to have a negative impact, in the Ivory Coast and beyond, on the defence of footballers, the chief objective of FIFPro and its members".

"Your decision shows a flagrant omission of this obligation and a total lack of consideration for your members," the letter continued.

FIFPro said the choice "is the result of various serious statutory breaches committed by the AFI in recent years" and had failed to take into account the "strictly democratic expression of the will of Ivorian footballers."

"The suspension means that the AFI immediately loses all its rights as a FIFPro member, and in particular its rights to income," it said.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.
