The Rotenburg thread.
« on: February 17, 2006, 11:11:45 AM »
Anyone look at http://rotenburg2006.com lately? They revamped it completely late last month. It has a big welcome for T&T and info about the team, the training facility, etc. Even a link back to socawarriors.net

The Rotenburger Kreiszeitung is reporting on some of the planned events in Rotenburg during the World Cup.

The article is in German is here:
http://syke.mzv.net/news/stories/rotenburg/?id=71217

Two church pastors are organizing 3 events.

The first will take place on "Pfingstmontag" (Pentecost Monday) (June 5) and will be an ecumenical service held at the "Pferdemarkt" (horse market) which will be followed by the second event: a live steel-band along with local musicians. It will finish with some kind of combined jam. The steel-band was arranged through Trinidad's honorary consul in Hamburg, Howard Kroch.

The third event will be a nighttime service entitled "Gebet der Religionen" (Prayer of the religions) and is meant to reveal the mutilreligious makeup of Trinidad & Tobago.

The article also mentions that Howard Kroch will be in Rotenburg around Easter time to give two presentations about T&T at the Community Center.

Representative Joel Squires receives Rotenburg welcome.

The snaps of my visit as the first Trini to reach the Rathaus in R'burg - by Beau Rat

The mayor and his best men received myself and Mr.W? of the DPA in Bremen very cordially and I am 100% certain that Mr. Beenhaker has yet again made the right choice in choosing the Landhaus Wachtelhof Hotel as the Soca Warriors' home away from home. Stay tuned for all the fast breaking news surrounding the build up in R'burg, the worldwide press coverage and of course the many upcoming Limes. Because why?! Lime Cyah done

Carib now available in Rotenburg
« Reply #3 on: March 21, 2006, 10:26:12 PM »
soca-warrior.de reports that Carib is now in stock in Rotenburg.

"Now it's really time for Spring. Just about no one can deal with the snow and freezing temperatures anymore. A messenger has just now reported: Fresh from the Caribbean a shipment of beer has arrived and may be sampled forthwith. The "yellow juice" with 5.2% alcoholic content is available at the bowling center "Space Bowl". So the Lime party on April 3rd can be started in style."

Lime Party April 3, 2006 from 6pm

The chamber of commerce and the tourism office in Rotenburg are sponsoring a party at the "Pferdemarkt" in Rotenburg on April 3 from 6pm. It will serve as a kick-off for the countdown to the World Cup. A T&T television production will be there to tape it. The Wümme-Jumbies queen will be crowned. All children are encouraged to dress up in "jumbie" costumes for a costume contest. The stage is open - anyone wanting to perform contact the information office.

not sure how easy they are to get unless you go to Rotenburg. You might try e-mailing the guy on soca-warriors.de, he lives there, he may be able to hook you up.

So our hosts in Rotenburg have had their fanclub website up almost a month now.

It's here: http://www.wuemme-jumbies.de (German only)

Their stated purpose:

"Jumbies are spirits that everyone in Trinidad & Tobago knows about. They are not evil, and therefore we have made "Jumbieno" [  <- ??? I guess it's our friends in Rotenburg who came up with this ] our president. He will always be with us and will helpfully support us as well as the team.

We founded our club on February 18th 2006 at the Space-Bowl in Rotenburg. Now we want to help out so both the footballers and fans from TnT have a fantastic time by us.

Together we should be able to make Rotenburg a good host for the Soca Warriors.

Please participate. Membership is free and everyone is welcome."

In one recent interview Beenhakker said they would "generally" be closed to the public. but he sounded like he left the door open a bit. Don't know for sure.

Just heard on the radio that June 12th they will have a fete match with something like 50 players:
Strike squad, 1973 team, Clint Marcelle, Ron La, Marvin Faustin.....real big names.

Supposed to be these same Rotenburg people.

Open training session
« Reply #18 on: May 22, 2006, 11:37:20 AM »
There will be one Soca Warriors training session open to the public in Rotenburg.

It will be on June 7th, (not June 6th as originally thought) at 5pm local time.

A complete schedule of their activities is coming out Wednesday, apparently.

In Rotenburg:

I am beginning to like these Rotenburg folks... they have some class compared to what we can come up with:  a big red phallic symbol at the gates of Port-of-Spain.
