Roque Santa Cruz has suffered a fresh injury setback which could rule him out of Paraguay's opening World Cup game against England on Saturday.
The Bayern Munich striker has been battling to be fit for the game after being dogged by knee injuries for the last couple of seasons, and it had been widely assumed he would recover in time.
But Santa Cruz was forced to leave training this afternoon after just 35 minutes citing pain in his left knee, sparking new fears about his fitness.
Coach Anibal Ruiz has not confirmed how serious the injury is and whether his star player would be okay for the weekend.
Despite the blow, Santa Cruz remains confident he will be fit to play, claiming he would have to 'feel very bad on Saturday' to miss out.
He added: 'The injury is improving and developing very well.
'There's a big difference from one day to the other. That's why we need to wait a bit more.'
Santa Cruz has the full support of Ruiz, who said: 'If he feels good, I'll back his decision.'
