Very interesting Check it

I think thsi is a good idea to think about. I would make it simpler. 3 points for a win and one point for each goal. Even if a team lose but score two they get two points. Lard football attitudes will change

Six possible changes
Over a five-month period Hidalgo canvassed the opinions of club presidents, coaches, players, broadcasters and key figures from other team sports, and last week he proposed six possible changes to the points system:

● Two points for a score draw and one for a goalless draw
● One point for a draw plus another for the team that scores first
● Penalty shoot-outs, with three or four points for a win after 90 minutes, two points for a win after penalties and one point for a defeat after penalties
● Extra points depending on the margin of victory, for instance, five points for victory by more than two goals, four points for a win by two goals etc
● Rewarding a two-goal winning margin, so that three points are awarded for a win by two goals or more, and only two points for a win by a single goal
● Coupling league matches on a European home-and-away basis with a bonus point awarded to the side that wins its 'tie' on aggregate

Mixed response
Those six proposals have been put to club presidents and have been met by a mixed response, but the LFP is keen to implement change, even considering testing proposals five and six in Ligue 2 next season. "Number five is not bad," Paris Saint-Germain FC defender Sylvain Armand said. “Very often the team leading 1-0 keeps it tight. With a bonus for the second goal they would be keen to keep attacking and so improve the spectacle."

I read this yesterday its quite a long piece on UEFA.com it has some merit.

football would change with some simple adjustments to the points. it is also a good idea because it does not mess with the rule and can be implemented world wide.
Imagine a team losing 3-0 but know they can get points from the game if they score goals. Weaker teams will no longer pack the penalty area and can go for at least some points  ;D
It is certainly a better idea than eliminating the throw in, messing with the offside and widening the goals

Usually games come down to penalty kicks in a knock out.... points wouldn't really matter at that point... the winner is the winner

That point system might open up the game a little but suddenly a win wouldn't just be a win and a loss just a loss
Would make more sense for league....

Fifa could use that in their point system for the rankings... Now that seem to make more sense to me!!!

In youth soccer they score similar to that, especially in the indoor Tourney. You get 6 for a win, 1 point per goal up to 3 goals and a point for a shut out. So you can get a maximum of ten. In a tie it's 3 points for a tie and a point for every goal scored up to 3 goals.

The beauty of football is in its simplicity

This applies to the scoring as well.

No team purposely goes out to lose or to score no goals,
neither do they go out to draw matches on purpose in a whole season league setting.

it will also cause confusion.......Hypothetically a team like Chelsea with 1-2 losses but only winning 1-0 can have less points than Arsenal who have 9 losses but who beat people with a larger scoreline regularly.

Why create a distinction and reward system for winning?

What they are trying to do touches is open up the game and move away from negative football. The true beauty of footbal is different for everyone. Being in Italy they appreciate a 0-0 game because they say its a perfect game. No mistakes so it has ended 0-0. Now for others football is about individual expression within a team. Other may like hard jam blood and guts football. However, football is suffering as players are now running almost 50% more than 20 years ago. Imagine 50% more than when Diego played. yet the pitch size has remained the same. Compound that with better organized teams and you get a product that is almost too efficient. Now we have all heard or seen rules implemented that really take away from the simplicity. So I believe the objective is to give an incentive for goals scored. Chelsea winning will still get 3 points and maybe an extra point for each goal or what ever, even as it stands now Chelsea would be top of the table if they got one point for each goal. It would make dam interesting football. Just look at how the away goals rule makes CL games.

It would be nice if they implement number 2.  I would love to be looking at games with teams gunning for the first goal.

Or even number 5.  Which would keep the game interesting even if a stronger team (chelsea) scores first on a weaker team (sunderland).

ah love it!!
