Joe Public without Mitchell, Morris for Santos clash

Bmobile Joe Public targets a superb start to the 2010-2011 CONCACAF Champions’ League Group stage when they host Mexican side Club Santos Laguna from 8pm at the Marvin Lee Stadium on Wednesday.

However head coach Derek King will be without defenders Carlyle Mitchell and Jevon Morris for the opening Group B encounter.

Mitchell is suffering groin tears picked up in Trinidad and Tobago’s 3-1 defeat against Jamaica a week ago while Morris is serving a one-match suspension for accumulation of cards.

“It will be a loss to the team without Mitchell and Morris because they are two very good players,” said King. “But it’s a good opportunity for other players to step up and grab the opportunity with both hands.”

According to King, experienced wingback Nigel Daniel and defender Kareem Young may start for the unavailable pair.

Mitchell is expected out for two weeks and will not make Public’s visit to the Estadio Mateo Flores against Municipal in their second Group B match.

King is focused on the present challenge against Santos and says that they are trying to capitalize on the home advantage.

“The mode in the camp is a good one,” he said. “The guys are all eager to begin the Group stage. We are playing at home and that’s an advantage because we are hoping to get a good start. We are hoping that the fans understand this and come out as the twelfth-man.”

King expressed confidence in his side adding, “I am in no doubt we have a couple experienced players who can take the team up another level, because obviously this is a bigger stage. We are hoping that the Trent Noel, Kerry Baptiste, Yu Hoshide, Nigel Daniel and Gayson Gregory could show that level of maturity to guide us through this level of the competition.”

I just witnessed one of the worst moments in goalkeeping for a professional. WOW!!!

The local players are not the most tactically astute players and that is compounded by their poor workrate. When the ball goes past them they just shutdown. If this is the best we have in Trini then we are in an absolute mess.

#8 for Joe Public is not very good defensively and he is a holding midfielder.

He square back and a man run at 5 men and slap and score....everybody pointing and nobody tackling.

Watch that replay again....top of the box and not a tackle or a close down.

This kinda shit play is what does reach the national team.

I now asking the same question- he's been lucky enough to have had 2 goals called back for offsides already- and it's only the 31st minute.
