Good question. Maybe he in a slump or out of favour with the coach.

They aren't playing well, but JP has definitely stepped their game up in the 13 minutes since the half- some of the players must've read SW.net during halftime.

and sigh...if only Tinto's crosses had a point to them- that must be why they just subbed him off for G. Gregory.

Allyuh look de goat mouth man here.... who know this man to pass two bullpistle on him on behalf of de board??

...Live Commentary Minute   Description

76'   J. Cárdenas has scored a goal for Santos! Assist by R. Ruiz.
Goal Santos! And it's four in the bag for Cárdenas! Ruiz crosses from the right, and Cárdenas rises highest to head home. What a performance by "Chema" Cárdenas for Santos Laguna.
74'  Header over the bar by Ruiz as he could have put the match away. Olvera's deflected cross from the left finds El Pony at the back post, but he sends the shot high.
73'  Daniel with a great ball to the center of the area, but it is just behind Lewis with acres of space to shoot. Nearly the breakthrough for Joe Public there.
72'   A. Toussaint enters the game and replaces K. Baptiste.
Andre Toussaint replaces captain Baptiste as Joe Public make their final change of the match.
70'  Lewis fires with the left boot at the top of the area, but his effort curls high.
69'  Joe Public have had the buildup necessary for an equalizer, but their touches in the area have lacked the quality for another goal up to now.
67'   E. López enters the game and replaces R. Salinas.
Sub for Santos with Enrique López replacing Salinas just moments after a fine strike by Cárdenas gives him three for the match.
66'   J. Cárdenas has scored a goal for Santos!
Goal Santos! And there's the hat-trick for Cárdenas! Another fine solo effort as Cárdenas works free on the right before unleashing a left-footed drive from the top of the area. 3-2 to the Mexicans.
64'  Gregory gets clear in acres of space, but a poor touch stops his run and a bad pass gives it away. Big opportunity there for the home side.
63'  Dangerous ball in by Daniel just misses the head of Baptiste at the opposite post. Lewis keeps it in and centers, but Daniel's glancing header is well wide.

Minute   Description
62'  Neat throughball by Yu for Baptiste is deflected out for another Joe Public corner.
60'  Thirty minutes to play and it's anyone's game. Joe Public have impressed here in the second half, clearly capitalizing on the momentum from the late first-half goal by Yu.
59'   G. Gregory enters the game and replaces H. Tinto.
Joe Public make their second change as Tinto is replaced by Gason Gregory.
57'  A great move by Tinto gets him past sub Hoyo, but his cross is just out of reach for the charging Lewis.
56'   J. Hoyo enters the game and replaces A. Martinez.
First sub for Santos as Jose León Hoyo replaces Martínez.
55'  Peralta breaks into the area, but Springer sweeps the ball out for a Santos corner.
53'  Bated breath in the stadium as Yu gets a crack from 25 yards, but this time he drags his shot wide.
52'  A great individual effort by Kareem Young wins a corner for Joe Public as Becerra has to swat away a sharp-angle shot.
50'  Great save at the other end by Samuel preserves the scoreline. A neat flick by Peralta finds a charging Ruiz, but his close-range shot is denied.
49'  Another good move up the right by Joe Public, but Daniel's dangerous cross is cleared away by Santiago.
47'  Good buildup by Joe Public, but Tinto's right-wing cross to the back post is out of play for a goal kick.
46'  The teams are back out and a sure-to-be exciting second half is under way.
45' +2  There goes the half-time whistle, and what a sequence near the end of the half. Santos dominated for the most part with two goals from "Chema" Cárdenas, but a goalkeeping error and the late brilliance of Yu has it all square at the break.
45'  One minute added on to the first half.
44'   Y. Hoshide has scored a goal for Joe Public! Assist by H. Tinto.
Goal Joe Public! What a strike by Yu Hoshide, and Joe Public are level on the stroke of half-time. Tinto controls on the left and pulls it back to the top of the area for the Japanese midfielder to fire beautifully inside the near post. Great momentum shift just before the break.
43'  Two great saves by Samuel keep the match at 2-1. Ruiz has a drive from 25 yards that forces a sprawling save, and the rebound is corraled by Olvera who is also denied.
42'  Peralta breaks into the area yet again, but his hesitance to shoot allows Hislop a chance to close him down. Corner for Santos.
41'  Things have settled a bit here as Santos are still enjoying the best of the possession.
38'  Alejandro Martínez takes a crack at goal from 30 yards, but his shot is always rising over the top.
36'  Free kick from the right for Joe Public finds Hislop in the area, but his weak header skips wide.
34'  High cross from the right by Joe Public, but Becerra rises highest to make the catch.
32'   J. Springer enters the game and replaces M. Joseph.
Whether it be performance- or injury-related, Joe Public make an early change with Jason Springer replacing Marcus Joseph.
31'  Santos have it in the net again, but again the play is offside. Torres headed back across for a header into the goal, but the flag is up.
30'  Corner for Santos as Daniel's slide tackle gets the ball away from Ruiz.
29'  Becerra is called into action at the other end as a Trent Noel cross comes in, but the Santos keeper has no problems this time around.
28'  And another great chance for Peralta, but he is denied by the post. A great ball puts the forward in on the right side of the area, but he strikes the near post with the keeper beaten.
27'  It should have been three there for Santos, but Ruiz misses the target. A pass into space by Torres finds an onside Peralta in acres of green. Peralta races into the area and crosses for Ruiz, but his first-time shot was high of the far corner. Another missed chance for the Mexicans.
24'   J. Cárdenas has scored a goal for Santos!
Goal Santos! And the second for Cárdenas! Already on a goal, Cárdenas takes the ball at the top of the area, weaves his way through three defenders on the left side of the area, and shoots coolly inside the near post. A fine goal for Santos and a deserved lead at this point.
23'  Salinas slides in a pass from the right looking for the run of Torres, but the ball carries through to goalkeeper Samuel.
22'  Ruiz has the ball in the back of the net, but "El Pony" was offside on the throughball from Paco Torres.
21'  Good one-two between Cárdenas and Olvera, but the latter is denied by an onrushing Samuel on the left.
20'  Santos seem to have settled back down after conceding the equalizer, and they are doing a good job controlling the ball in midfield.
18'  A lazy cross by Antonio Olvera finds its way into the arms of Samuel, who sends Joe Public the other way.
17'  Each of these sides bring a lot of pace to the game, which always seems to make for a high-scoring affair. There is plenty of space to run, and plenty opportunities for a good pass to split a gap.
14'  Great chance gone begging for Santos and Peralta. The forward is clear 15 yards out, but his turning effort flies wide of the far corner by a good margin. He will want to have done much better there.
12'  What an incredible turn of events here in Trinidad. Just after a fine goal gave the Mexicans the lead, a goalkeeping mistake lets Joe Public right back in. It should be a thriller the rest of the way.
11'   M. Hislop has scored a goal for Joe Public!
Goal Joe Public! And just like that the island side are level in comical circumstances as a long drive by Makan Hislop skips past Miguel Becerra in the Santos goal. It seemed an easy shot for Becerra to handle, but he looked to be shepherding the ball out only to see it settle well inside the post.
9'   J. Cárdenas has scored a goal for Santos! Assist by O. Peralta.
Goal Santos! A shot from the top of the area deflects back out for an unmarked Cárdenas, and he makes no mistake by slotting inside the right-hand post of Samuel.
7'  The corner is headed clear and Santos break through José María Cárdenas, but his cross from the left is wayward and easy for Joe Public goalkeeper Glenroy Samuel to handle.
6'  Marcus Joseph's shot deflects behind from 25 yards, and Joe Public have the first corner.
5'  Again Salinas and Lewis come together on the right side, but the home player wins the throw in.
3'  Oribe Peralta crosses in from the left, but the ball is out of the reach of Rodrigo Ruiz at the far post.
2'  Joe Public's Micah Lewis looks dangerous running down the left, but Rodolfo Salinas cuts him out with a sliding tackle.
1'  Roberto Moreno of Panama is the referee, and his whistle gets this match under way.
Good evening to all and welcome to Marvin Lee Stadium in Tunapuna as Group B play gets under way in the 2010/11 CONCACAF Champions League with Trinidad & Tobago's Joe Public taking on Santos Laguna of Mexico. Each of these sides had to go through the tournament's qualifying phase to reach this point. Joe Public poured it on late to beat Costa Rican side Brujas 6-4 on aggregate while Santos stormed past San Juan Jabloteh by a total of 6-0.

Offensively public good, but that defense is the problem, no speed back there and they play to high, that's why their OST have been breached so many times. for ah slow team they need tuh play deep in their own half and counter, that defense gets open up too easy .

We cannot win Digicel with an all local squad and if Latas thinks we can he should be fired for thinking so.

We can win with a local squad. Just not under Latapy. We need a GOOD coach to do it. The local players are not world beaters, but the bulk of the problem is poor selection, piss-poor coaching from cradle to grave, non-existent tactics and interference/incompetence by the federation.

Wim had T&T hopping in 2007 with a similar set of players. Since then T&T players have gotten unprecedented exposure to top CONCACAF teams thru CCL and the younger ones have handled themselves creidtably in a world cup.

Latapy will quit or be fired before the year is out. That is almost a certainty. But these players will perform for a quality coach that selects on merit and will stand up to the federation. Nothing less.

JP started well in the second half moving the ball around well but poor finishing, Too slow football making the transition from defence to the final third. The defence played too high and too slow to recover. With a number of senior team members in this squad I expected a better display. I did see improvement in the trapping and passing with the Japanese in the centre of the mix.

Joe Public leaves for Guatemala in search of first CCL victory

Joe Public leaves for Guatemala in search of first CCL victory
ttproleague.com

Digicel Pro League champions, bmobile Joe Public departed for Guatemala City on Monday afternoon where it will face CSD Municipal in a CONCACAF Champions’ League Group B match day two encounter on Thursday.

The match will take place at the Mateo Flores National Stadium, Guatemala from 10pm and will be of great importance for both clubs, which are coming off of losses in their opening match.

Municipal was beaten 1-0 away to Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew in Ohio while Joe Public was handed a 5-2 thrashing at home by Mexico’s Santos Laguna last week.
In fact out of the eight games played in the first round, the only team to suffer a defeat at home was the Derek King-coached Joe Public, which now will be seeking its first win in eight group stage matches.

Prior to his team’s departure for Guatemala yesterday, King said his players will be going out to get a win.“We were beaten in our first match at home so we now have to get three points on the road and get ourselves back in contention to advance to the next stage of the tournament,” said King.

“We did not play to our expectations in the first match against Santos and we know that we will have to show much more discipline defensively if we want to get the required result in Guatemala.King also pointed out that Municipal, beaten in its first match by Crew will also be coming out to get a win in front of their home supporters which will make the match a bit more difficult.

“The guys have played away from home before and we know that we have to do much better in terms of keeping our shape and tighten up our defence while putting away our chances.
“Hopefully we will be able to get it right this time which will be enough for us to get the required result.”

King will also have the availability of defensive duo, Carlyle Mitchell and Jovan Morris, both of whom missed the match against Santos.Mitchell has recovered from a groin strain suffered while playing for T&T in a 3-1 loss to Jamaica on August 11 while Morris was suspended for the Santos match. They have replaced Julien Landeau and Kenaz Williams, who were unused substitutes in the Santos match.

Making its second CCL appearance, Municipal, coming off a 2-0 loss to Xinabajul on Saturday, has won the Guatemalan football league crown a record 28 times and is the lone Guatemalan squad to win the Concacaf title, in 1974, and finished as runner-up in the Copa Interamericana in 1974, the best finish by a Guatemalan club.

Since the Guatemalan league switched to the Apertura/Clausura format in 2000, Municipal has won 13 of the 22 titles. Coached by Uruguayan Manuel Keosseian, who previously managed Honduran side Marathon in the Champions League, Municipal is led by captain Juan Carlos Plata, the most prolific scorer in the history of Guatemala's top division.

He has 299 goals in 20 years with Municipal and 35 more for the Guatemalan national team, second only to Carlos Ruiz.Tuesday night, Santos will be at home to Crew in both teams second match at the Nuevo Estadio Corona from 10pm.

Joe Public team: Glenroy Samuel, Trent Noel, Makan Hislop, Nigel Daniel, Kieon Goodridge, Kerry Baptiste, Hayden Tinto, Marcus Joseph, Kareem Young, Yu Hoshide, Micah Lewis, Marvin Phillip, Carlyle Mitchell, Jovan Morris, Jason Springer, Gayson Gregory, Akim Toussaint, Kareem Moses.

The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.
