Why not football at Commonwealth games?
« on: March 18, 2006, 11:04:07 AM »
It would appear that as we review the major world sporting events that we ought to rename and revist the  concept of  what constitutes the title WORLD? or are some of these events trully representative of all nations?

Let's begin with my biggest beef: The Winter Olympics. Honestly this should be called the white games ooops winter games for European and  winter sports. The majority of sports represented at these games are not inclusive of all nations in the world. I was appauled at the broadcasters disparinging remarks from one network when  athletes from countries like Bermuda and  an African nation  marched on. No chance what so ever is given  to them as amatter of fact no respect is accorded to them as athletes.

Why do the U.S.A. have a World Series of baseball when it's a competition between teams in their  local league?

The World cup of Soccer truly provides an opportunity for all soccer nations to compete for the opportunity to be represented on a world stage.

Now the Commonwaelth games could be avanue for nations who may not have a quality team in football to be represented in an international event. Given the number of commonwealth nations and the fact that many do  have football teams, why is it that  football is not represented  at these games?

Like yuh take ah smoke before yuh start writing :rotfl:

I just kicksin breds.

To have football in the Commonwealth games FIFA would have to agree to that and that just not gonna happen because there is already too much complaining about too many games....Club games, International games

There are club games, international friendlies, Olympic games, Confederation cup, Cups for each federation like Gold Cup and European Championships....etc

Yes there are many countries that probably never making the World Cup that could play but just an example
Barbados vs Grenada------ and that match playin in Melbourne.

With the low popularity and low world wide recognition of these games, a sport such as football may inject some  popular masses.

As it is now, world class athletes are passing on these games. Many of the nations, may not have to field an A class football team so as to impact the release from clubs. They may opt to field a U-21 or  a develepomental squad.

I tihnk the possibilities are there, given that a playoff qualification format could occur prior to the games.

Well, from what i heard when there was a debate for removing the u23 age limit for olympics thus creating a world cup every two years. Imagine having qualifiers for commonwealth, olympics, world cup all running at the same time as club fixtures etc. It would result in too packed a footballing calender, and probably fester the club vs country row. Then too...commonwealth games only open to present and past english colonies so the talent available wont be really world wide. it go be tight, and require real coordination. FIFA jus probably realise the stress and decide not to bother.
The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today are Christians who acknowledge Jesus ;with their lips and walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.

Superroli, boi  yuh hit yuh own nerve. In reality the winter olympics is open to all countries but in reality the sports which are show cased at these games exclude participation by some countries.

It's the one games which by design, excludes full or adequate participation by countries due to climate or weather factors.

I eh saying this is ah bad thing all ah saying is if they want one ah dem kinda games call the frigging thing a games fuh just winter sports but doh make it a frigging worl olympics. it eh trully that. a rose by any name is ah frigging rose : it is a frigging event fuh predominantly white european countries or those countries where snow ice and  cold predominates.

other sports not there...we could even agrue for cricket since most of the commonwealth countries play it

to have those sports would require a great amount of funds and organisation... and the commonwealth games ent that big

by the way... if any of allyuh followin we track team...
Marc Burns, Darell Brown win in their heats...jacey Harper ent make it.... all the heats were rel slow... about 10.5 seconds (Asafa Powell 10.53)
Fana qualify with a fast 4th position...
The second round should be goin on all now so...
