Stoke City keen on extending Kenwyne Jones' loan deal
« on: March 15, 2005, 07:08:31 AM »
Stoke City FC

Tony Pulis has revealed he's hoping to extend Kenwnye Jones' loan stay at the club.

The City boss is set to approach Southampton manager Harry Redknapp with a view to keeping the striker for longer when his one-month loan deal expires this week.

The Trinidad and Tobago International has played all five league games since joining the club and netted the winner against Millwall last month.

Tony says: "He's a good kid who works hard and I think he's enjoying his time at the club.

"The people here can't get over how laid back he is and everyday is Christmas day to Kenwyne.

"I'll have to speak to Harry this week about keeping him and see if he wants him to stay out on loan and also talk to Kenwyne and see what he wants to do."

He only score one so far.
Rednapp would probably leave him a little longer in that division.
Stoke starting him so if Kenwyne like it there might as well start.

Southhampton have Crouch and Camara up front and I can't see Jones replacing either.

true.  Only if/when Southampton get relegated will Jones get his chance to start regularly (I assume some fellas will leave).  Might as well keep him at stoke so he learns more about that division.

Kenwyne Jones joins Stoke on loan until the end of the season

Southampton’s Trinidad & Tobago striker Kenwyne Jones has today extended his loan move to Championship side Stoke City until the end of the season.

Kenwyne joined Stoke in early February, initially on a one-month contract, but the form he has shown in his five appearances for the side since then has led the club to extend the deal until the end of the season. Kenwyne scored on his Stoke debut in mid-February, the only goal in the 1-0 win over Millwall, but has since found goals harder to come by.

The tall, athletic striker had previously spent four months on loan at League One side Sheffield Wednesday where he scored seven goals in seven games, before returning to Southampton and playing in one Barclays Premiership game and one FA Cup match for the South coast side.

Kenwyne was pleased to be continuing his stay at the Potteries:

“I am really enjoying being given the opportunity to play first-team football on a regular basis here and pleased to be staying until the end of the season.

”The side are on a great run at the moment and we are extremely focussed on getting into the play-offs.

”I have to keep working hard and learning every day in training, but there is nothing quite like playing first-team football for improving your level of play.”

Take note Rahim, Scotland, Samuel, Sam, Boucaud and DWIGHT!  You not getting any better sitting on the bench.  Time to move on.

Are there teams that want these guys. Dwight could (and should) drop down division for sure but have the others really had any option to move clubs.

Anyway this is good news for Jones. He hasn't been scoring for Stoke as he was at Wednesday but the fact that they extended his loan is a good sign that he is performing at Championship level.

Yeah just I saw that. Can't keep a good man down.

Too bad Stern isn't scoring as he used to either ;)

It make real sense to let Jones develop at his own pace.
Move him up a level once he has gained as much as he could and ready for more.

I guess cuz he is young and maybe have a smaller salary other clubs willing to take him on.

Our others players coulda well do with loans...especially Stern when he was benching for Birm.

Rahim...poor fellah lock up at Falkirk.  Colin Samuel is a man shoulda go back down a division since he did ok there before and he young too.
