Nice game coming up on ESPN2 LA vs San Jose. In front 50000 no less, game getting big in the US. Euros having record tv audience in the US which is great, more ppl watching the sport. To follow up that with improving MLS attendance the sport is growing rapidly

That was his second yellow and he should have been sent off promptly at that point - even though it was less than a minute left. The ref lost control right at the end there and didn't realize.
Was awesome to be there. Full capacity 50,000. T-38 fly over at the start. Fireworks display at the end. Little fourth of July thing going on. That free kick was nice, but the next two LA goals were gifts by total defensive lapses. Luckily the Quakes pulled it out. 7 goals in all. Was a fun game.

To clarify Beckham did only get one yellow at the end. The first one the stadium announcer made an error. It was actually on Juninho.

Ronaldo: I hope to play in MLS
By ESPN staff

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo claims that he would like to follow David Beckham and play in Major League Soccer before the end of his career.

Ronaldo, 27, is the world's most expensive player after an £80 million move to Madrid from Manchester United in 2009. The former World Player of the Year was in blistering form last season and netted 69 goals in 61 games for his club.

And while there is no suggestion that Ronaldo is thinking of leaving the Bernabeu at any point soon, the Portuguese would like to head to America in the future.

"I think they do it well," Ronaldo told the MLS website when asked for his thoughts on the league. "To come here and do the preseason, for me it's great, because this county is brilliant - the mentality of the people, the conditions.

"(They) are in the right place. I think the soccer here, they do it the best (they) can, but it can be better. So if I can help there to be better soccer here - I they're great, they are in a good way, and I hope to come here to play one day."

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Retirement league

Imagine that and they are still 20 times better than the T&T Pro League- both on and off the field....

Not even our own home grown players wants to retire in the T&T league.

Red Bulls youth coach slashed to death
October 8, 2012

NEW YORK -- A 25-year-old youth soccer coach was fatally slashed in the neck and torso and his ear cut off in one of New York City's busiest neighborhoods last weekend, and police Monday were hunting for the suspected killer.

Michael Jones, a native of Liverpool, England, was a coach with the New York Red Bulls youth training program. He lived in West Harrison, in Westchester County.

He was on 14th Street in Manhattan's Union Square at around 4:30 a.m. Sunday when he was seen arguing with a man. Jones had earlier been out with his girlfriend but they parted around midnight, police said. Police were called the bloody scene where Jones lay on the street. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police late Sunday released surveillance footage of the suspected slasher, a man with a ponytail wearing a dark jacket. No arrests have been made.

The New York Red Bulls issued a statement, calling Jones a "fantastic coach who loved soccer."

"This is truly a sad day for our soccer community and we will do our utmost to help authorities in their investigation of this case. Our thoughts and prayers are with Michael's family at this time," the team said.

The New York Red Bulls are a Major League Soccer team.

NY wife-beat rap for Dallas soccer team’s CEO

NY wife-beat rap for Dallas soccer team’s CEO
By Jamie Schram (New York Post)

A birthday weekend in New York turned ugly for the hulking CEO of Dallas’ professional soccer team when he was busted for allegedly beating and suffocating his wife in their luxury hotel room, law-enforcement sources said yesterday.

Hal Douglas Quinn, head of the Major League Soccer club FC Dallas, allegedly attacked Elizabeth Quinn, 46, after an argument at around 2:45 p.m. Saturday at The Alex Hotel on East 45th Street, the sources said.

“It was his 50th birthday party Friday night. We had a lovely night, and unfortunately things went wrong,” Elizabeth told The Post, adding that they plan to stay together. They have two small children.

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Quinn allegedly pummeled his much-smaller wife’s face and body, choked her with both hands, and held a pillow over her face until she passed out, the sources said.

Quinn was arrested at 4 p.m. on charges of assault and strangulation, and his wife was treated by paramedics at the scene for injuries to her face, arm, legs and eye, which was swollen shut, the sources said.

She was then taken to New York Hospital.

Quinn was released on $20,000 bail following his arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court.

Elizabeth did not provide cops with a motive for the alleged assault, according to the sources said.

“In these cases, which are usually ‘he said, she said,’ there is often another side to the story, and there certainly is one here,” Hal Quinn’s lawyers said in a statement.

Quinn, who lives in Dallas, was in town “with friends just visiting,” said his lawyer, Alan Futerfas.

A spokeswoman for FC Dallas did not immediately comment.

Quinn is due back in court tomorrow.

The sports executive was a managing director and senior vice president of NFL International for 14 years before he became president of Soccer United Marketing in 2004.

FC Dallas hired him in 2010 and attracted its biggest crowd ever last July, according to a report.

But while attendance is up, the team itself isn’t doing so well.

FC Dallas did not make the MLS playoffs this season, finishing sixth in the Western Conference.

The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.

Sure it is not the first time he has lay hands on her and will not be the last. The fact thatthey used the word pummel to describe his act says it all. Forkin loser! If she staying because they have small children is not a good idea.
