Coventry City striker Stern John will join the Senior team in training at its next session on Friday morning at the Larry Gomes Stadium. John arrived in the country on Tuesday night and after reasoning with head coach Leo Beenhakker it was agreed that he miss the match against Alianza Lima de Peru and join the squad on the weekend. He was in team casual wear with the rest of the squad members who were not in Wednesday's team, sitting in the stands at the Stadium for the friendly with Lima.
He will be eligible for selection for Wednesday's game against El Salvador which kicks off at 5:30pm at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, same time as the Panama match on June 4.
Beenhakker will cut his squad in time for the El Salvador game with Marvin Andrews and Brent Sancho to be added early next week.
Dwight Yorke anxious for Sydney start.
By: Shaun Fuentes.
He’s heading to a club which carries the same name as his God daughter, Sydney whose father is none other than his close pal West Indian batsman Brian Lara. Added to that, Lara also struck a memorable 277 against Australia in Sydney and that by itself seems to be making National Team captain Dwight Yorke excited over the start of a new two-year deal with Australian professional club Sydney FC.
Yorke revealed on Monday that he had signed a two-year deal via fax with the option of extending by a year and he believes that apart from rejoining the national team, the move to Sydney could add some further spark to his career.
“I want to be playing for another two years or so which I can believe I can do and I made the decision to move to Sydney because I think it’s a great challenge for me at this stage, more like a new chapter in my life and I’m really looking forward to it. I was also very happy about the negotiations and I can’t wait to begin the season in August,†said Yorke who also touched on his commitment to the ‘Warriors’ after making it back just after midday from Tobago on Monday following a meeting with THA Chairman Orville London in order to join the team for a 4pm training session.
“It’s important that if I am going to be the leader of the team then it’s vital that I lead from example and as much as my commitment is also elsewhere I also have to ensure that I do the right thing for the national team. Personally I will like to continue in this light and it’s all about being professional at the end of the day and if I didn’t feel this way then I wouldn’t be here today.â€
Clayton Ince wants to see Crewe up.
By: Shaun Fuentes.
Clayton Ince plans to play a major role in helping Crewe Alexandra promoted to the Premiership next season. That was the word coming from the T&T custodian after he saved the club from being relegated with a creditable performance against Coventry City earlier this month.
“I think we have to set our aims high and my intention is to do my best to try and get the team in line for promotion next season. This season was a tough one but we came good on the home stretch which was a big plus for us and it means that we have character in the team but maybe we need more consistency,†Ince said.
“At the moment though, the focus is with the national team and I have to ensure that my game is right up because we all know how important the upcoming matches are for us. The distance to Germany could get shorter or a lot longer depending on how we perform in the two games coming up,†said Ince who earned himself a new two-year contract with Crewe. Meantime, fellow English-based goalie Shaka Hislop continues to be in search of a new contract after learning recently that he would be offered a new one by Portsmouth. “It was bad timing but I have got to move on and I am in search of a new club which is what I’m working on at the moment,†Hislop said.
