Marc Burns enjoyed a very successful evening at the Hero of Nacozari Stadium in Hermosillo, Mexico, on Saturday. The Trinidad and Tobago track star captured the Galatletica Banamex men's 100 metres title and established a new PR (personal record) in the 200m event.

Burns crushed his rivals in the century. He bolted to victory in 10.15 seconds to finish well ahead of second-placed Nicolas Macrozonaris, the Canadian getting to the line in 10.34 seconds. Leo Bookman of the United States copped third spot, in 10.35.

Less than an hour after his golden run in the 100m dash, Burns bagged 200m bronze in a personal best 20.57 seconds. Netherlands Antilles sprinter Churandy Martina topped the field, in 20.32, while Bookman finished second, in 20.35.

The 20.57 clocking produced by Burns was a full 21-hundredths of a second faster than his previous personal best of 20.78, established in Arizona, last month. The new 200m PR is two-hundredths of a second faster than the 20.59 World Championship "A" qualifying standard.

To date, Burns has bettered the 10.21 100m "A" standard four times during the January 1, 2004-July 25, 2005 qualifying period. Last August, he won twice in Belgium, clocking 10.12 and 10.20. Two weekends ago, the 22-year-old sprinter grabbed gold at the Felix Sanchez Invitational, in the Dominican Republic, in a personal best 10.11. And two days ago, he was the class of the field, in Hermosillo, Mexico, winning in 10.15.

American Rachelle Boone Smith captured the women's sprint double, in Mexico. She clocked 11.31 seconds in the 100m and a personal best 22.53 in the 200m.

Hometown hero Ana Guevara dominated her rivals in the women's 400m. The Mexican quarter-miler completed her lap of the track in 50.55 seconds, while second-placed Barbara Petrahn, of Hungary, got home in 52.26.

American Allen Johnson clocked 13.39 seconds to earn gold in the men's 110m hurdles. And his compatriot, Dwight Phillips, won the men's long jump title with an 8.11 metres leap.

real madness:
Marc Burns is having a good season, hopefully he can keep it up.  The 100 m at the World Championships will be extremely competitive, there are a lot of new faces running very fast in addition to the old guard.

Cowen:
Between him and Brown T&T have the real potential to medal in alot of events to come. As long as they remain healthy
