Tobago United salvage a draw vs PetrotrinFriday, April 28th 2006
Tobago United salvaged a draw from their fourth match in the 2006 Trinidad and Tobago Professional Football League after losing their first three.
The Peter Granville-coached team still looking for that elusive league championship victory after two years in the league seemed heading for another defeat when Garth Woodley struck two minutes from full time to nullify Anthony Rouger's 51st minute goal for Petrotrin at Palo Seco recreation ground.
Like in their previous three games, Tobago United were able to contain their opponents to a goalless half time score but it seemed like dejavu all over again when six minutes after the resumption, Rougier's strike gave Petrotrin the lead.
However, the Tobago team which have received a $500,000 grant from the newly formed Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago for their preparations, did not give up the game but took the flight to their opponents and were rewarded in the 88th minute when Garth Woodley scored the equalizer for them to share the points to their delight.
Earlier in the week, they engaged defending champions Vibes CT 105 W Connection and kept a clear score sheet in the first half but ended up going down 3-0, a situation which must very disappointing to coach Granville as his team is playing much better football than in the previous two years.
The draw earned Tobago their first point in the League and moved them from the cellar position on the ten-team table to the penultimate position.
The once powerful Defence Force team is languishing on the bottom without a point.
