Chelsea vs Man Utd.....Who will win?
« on: April 28, 2006, 02:11:13 PM »
Chelsea v Man Utd

Stamford Bridge
Saturday, 29 April
Kick-off: 1230 BST
BBC Radio Five Live

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eidur Gudjohnsen returns to the Chelsea squad after missing the FA Cup semi-final through illness.

Midfielder Maniche is available after serving a three-match ban and Petr Cech is likely to return in goal.

Gabriel Heinze's hopes of first-team action before the end of the campaign were dashed after picking up a groin injury in a midweek reserve game.

Louis Saha has recovered from an ankle injury to battle for a place with Ruud van Nistelrooy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chelsea: (from) Cech, Cudicini, Ferreira, Carvalho, Terry, Huth, Del Horno, Gallas, Makelele, Lampard, Essien, Geremi, Maniche, Duff, J Cole, Wright-Phillips, Robben, Drogba, Crespo.

Man Utd: (from) Van der Sar, Howard, Neville, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, Silvestre, Evra, Ronaldo, Giggs, O'Shea, Richardson, Park, Rooney, Van Nistelrooy, Saha, Rossi, Pique.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole on bouncing back from the FA Cup defeat to Liverpool:
"We've had a good time in training this week, working hard. Last Saturday's gone and now all we can do is achieve the remarkable feat of putting back-to-back titles together.
"I always enjoy training and everybody has been looking good. It's going to be a big game in Chelsea history.

"Everyone wants to be playing but it is down to the manager and he has a fully fit squad more or less to pick from."

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand:
"We know we need to start well next time round and to do that we need to make sure we finish well.
"Saturday's game is a massive one for us. They'll obviously be trying to win the league but it's up to us to try and delay that for as long as possible.

"They've been very consistent this season and deserve credit for that. We could have put a bit more pressure on them if we hadn't slipped up against Sunderland but it wasn't to be."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BIG-MATCH FACTS

CHELSEA go head-to-head with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge this Saturday lunchtime in search of the one point they need to clinch back-to-back Premiership titles. It's being billed as party time at the Bridge, seven days after seeing all chance of a League and Cup double slip out of their fingers following defeat to Liverpool in the FA Cup semi final. Chelsea lead their second placed opponents by nine points with three to play. If they avoid defeat Jose Mourinho's side will be crowned champions of England for the third time in their 101 years history and their first successively. It will be the 11th time the English title has been retained, and the fifth occasion it's happened in the Premier League - the Red Devils have held onto their Premiership crown four times.

If the Blues achieve it, they will have taken one more match that last year, although it'll be on the equivalent calendar weekend. Their first Premiership title was clinched on 30 April 2005 at Bolton. The Blues need to win all three of their remaining fixtures if they're to beat their club record 95 Premier League points. Chelsea are bidding for a fourth successive Premiership victory and a seventh at home, to take their unbeaten League sequence at the Bridge to 44. If the defending champions can keep United at bay, they'll have gone through two complete top flight campaigns without defeat at home. If the title is not won, the west Londoners have two further opportunities (away to Blackburn and Newcastle) for that one point they require, unless Manchester United slip up in their closing fixtures home to Middlesbrough and Charlton.

These clubs stand at eight wins a piece with 11 draws from their 27 Premiership meetings to date. The Londoners have won the last two at the Bridge, including last season's when Eidur Gudjohnsen's goal gave Mourinho a winning start to his managerial reign.

MANCHESTER UNITED travel to the capital with second spot and automatic qualification to the group stages of next season's Champions League not yet secured. They're three points ahead of Liverpool with three to play - the Merseysiders have two to play. Sir Alex Ferguson's side are on an 11-match unbeaten League sequence, and are aiming for a sixth consecutive away victory.

United have already bagged two more points than they totalled last season. The current tally of 79 was good enough to win the title in 1998/99. Indeed in 1996/97, the Old Trafford club needed only 75 for the silverware. This should be the first time in three seasons that United finish in the top two, having been either champions or runners-up in each of the first nine years of Premier League football.

A 0-3 victory on 20 April 2002 is United's only maximum in seven Premiership visits to Stamford Bridge. They go this time in search of a first Premier League 'double' over the west Londoners, and a 14th over them all-time, after Scotland midfielder Darren Fletcher scored the only goal in a match of high quality at Old Trafford in November, which ended Chelsea's 40-game unbeaten league run.

Man Utd are playing the best football in the league at the moment. Chelsea have been stuttering since Christmas to be honest. But it's going to be a case of "Nice try Man U, but no cigar"  ;D

my prediction. Chelsea will win the title tomorrow with a 1-1 draw

COME ON YOU BLUES!!!!  :wavetowel:

the special one ?

what kinda special is that.. lol

Maurinho is the first manager i see that when a goal score he just sit down there...like he en see the goal , or hear the crowd.

Man U make some questionable decisions int erms of starting line up ... No Ruud ?

Some fellahs didnt do much on the field , and some fellahs was just wotless...

i not even goinan start on that ,but C.Ronaldo like he was constipated , what happen to crossing ?
this boy looking to score from the corner flag .. steups

Man Utd played horribly today , and to compound it, Rooney looks to be badly injured , and was the sense the boys go to the world cup and they dont have a good striker down they tail , then is bes they just stay and play costa rica and mexico... (but they good too eh)...

But anyhow , Well Done Chelsea ...

i see maureen-ho gone accross and shake Furgy hand , but is a title well won , but i not making excuse or anything eh , but man utd really make the title a cake walk for chelsea , un-necesarily drawing games etc..

the first goal was a good goal , bad defending by man utd though , disappointed there..
the second was lucky , good finish , good power to break through too , good goal from joe cole
the third i eh even see , so i cyah say nothing ..

Anyhow , thas the report ...

Nigel

Glory Glory Man Utd !
