Atlantic LNG has made a contribution of TT$3 million to the T&T football team’s first appearance in the World Cup this year. This was announced at a press conference at the Hasely Crawford Stadium yesterday by their president, Rick Cape. Also present at the ceremony were Minister of Sport, Roger Boynes and Fifa vice president Jack Austin Warner.
So far, with yesterday’s contribution together with the Government’s assistance, the team has received in excess of TT$20.9 million in support of its 2006 World Cup campaign.
Cape expressed great pride to be involved in T&T’s World Cup campaign which he sees as an extremely important moment for our country.
“History was made last November when T&T qualified for the World Cup for the first time. This was a tremendous experience for the country, and we all have enduring memories of the exuberant telephone calls we received from friends and relatives overseas. It was a great moment of global connection.” he said.
He was also confident that T&T would go on to achieve great things this summer.
“Germany is not going to forget the Soca Warriors or the people of T&T. We know the country is going to have a significant impact. We wish the Soca Warriors every success in the games and we look forward to receiving a good report from our Atlantic ambassadors who will be there with you.”
Warner seemed especially pleased with the milestone reached by the Soca Warriors and the positive impact it is having on the public.
“It is time for us to put this country on the map.” he said. “We are changing the way we use our heads, souls and mouths.”
Boynes, too, was in high spirits as he praised T&T’s potential for success.
“We know you can make it to the second round. We know you can shock the world.” he said.
Atlantic LNG has decided to raffle off 50 tickets for the upcoming friendly game against Peru on May 10. They will later select four employees to be Atlantic’s sponsored guests to Germany. This will include complimentary air tickets as well as tickets to each of Trinidad’s first round games.
