T&TFA brings Ramnarine on board.
T&T Guardian Reports.

The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) yesterday appointed former WIPA president Dinanath Ramnarine as a consultant to lead efforts to assist the TTFA with its governance and management reform and to review and restructure organisational operations.

Ramnarine’s appointment followed a special meeting of the Association’s executive which was convened by TTFA president Raymond Tim Kee to discuss the issues and circumstances surrounding the tour to Argentina in June. According to the release, the meeting was full, frank, and open, following which the executive committee agreed to the following initiatives which were tabled by Tim Kee:

• Accept the withdrawal of Darren Millien’s services as commercial agent for the TTFA. This follows a meeting between Tim Kee and Millien on Friday.

• The reconfiguration of general secretary, Sheldon Phillips’, role by including William Wallace to lead government relations and team management functions.

• Appoint former WIPA president Dinanath Ramnarine as a consultant to lead efforts to assist the TTFA with its governance and management reform and to review and restructure organizational operations.

• Reiterate the need to improve the governance structure of the TTFA in line with best practices.

Tim Kee said the TTFA was pleased to have Ramnarine as part of its reformation effort. “Dinanath is a hard-working individual who brings to the table a wealth of experience in sports administration and governance.”

Ramnarine, who has been a member of the TTFA’s independent review commission, also played a key role in the mediation of the settlement of the outstanding payments to the 2006 World Cup players. He said, “I look forward to working with Mr Tim Kee and the executive committee to establish processes and systems that would put Trinidad and Tobago football on its best footing.”

On Wallace’s inclusion, Tim Kee added, “Mr Wallace brings a wealth of experience to our organization having managed relationships with various Government and international organizations . He has worked extensively with various bodies both in local football and cricket at the youth and senior levels and has demonstrated a high level of commitment. I think he will be a valuable addition to the management of the TTFA.”

AXE FALLS

Darren Millien is out, and general secretary Sheldon Phillips has had his portfolio cut down by the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA).

Yesterday, those decisions came at a special meeting of the TTFA’s Executive Committee was held according to an Association press release, to “discuss the issues and circumstances surrounding the tour to Argentina in June 2014.”

The meeting follows a two-part report on the Wired 868 website last week that claimed that $400,000 was unaccounted for. The matter is said to be before the Fraud Squad.

According to the TTFA release, the Executive Committee agreed to accept the withdrawal of Darren Millien’s services as commercial agent for the TTFA following a meeting between Association president Raymond Tim Kee and Millien on Friday.

It was also decided that general secretary Sheldon Phillips would no longer lead government relations and team management functions. William Wallace will now take up those duties.

In addition, the TTFA has also appointed former president of the West Indies Players Association Dinanath Ramnarine as a consultant to lead efforts to assist the TTFA with its governance and management reform and to review and restructure its operations.

In the release, Tim Kee offered no reasons for the removal of Millien or the downsizing of Phillips’ portfolio, but instead said, “the TTFA is pleased to have someone of Mr Ramnarine’s caliber as part of its reformation effort. Dinanath is a hard-working individual who brings to the table a wealth of experience in sports administration and governance.”

Ramnarine, who has been a member of the TTFA’s independent review commission, also involved in the mediation of the settlement of outstanding payments to the 2006 World Cup players.

Ramnarine said, “I look forward to working with Mr Tim Kee and the Executive Committee to establish processes and systems that would put Trinidad and Tobago football on its best footing.”

On Wallace’s inclusion, Tim Kee added: “Mr Wallace brings a wealth of experience to our organisation having managed relationships with various Government and international organisations.

He has worked extensively with various bodies both in local football and cricket at the youth and senior levels and has demonstrated a high level of commitment. I think he will be a valuable addition to the management of the TTFA.”

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Ramnarine was WIPAs President for a few years,he was very good and did a great job which improved the lives of our cricketers. He fought the WICB on many instances and won the players cause,"blood sucker"does not describe him. It's a surprise that anybody who love sports in TT dont know him.

Ok boyz, did some snooping around found some articles on him like this one:

Dinanath Ramnarine quits as head of WIPA

(Barbados Nation) Weeks after speculation about a pending resignation, Dinanath Ramnarine has quit as president and chief executive officer of the West Indies Players Association (WIPA).

The announcement of the resignation, which takes effect at the end of the month, was made yesterday by WIPA’s board of directors.

Vice-president Wavell Hinds, a long-standing executive member, will act as president until the annual general meeting later this year, while fellow director Michael Hall, cricket operations director of Cricket World Cup 2007 Inc. and a former West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) chief cricket operations officer, will serve as interim chief executive officer.

The 36-year-old Ramnarine, a former Trinidad and Tobago and West Indies leg-spinner, was first elected as WIPA head in 2002 and his tenure was marked by a series of hotly contested battles with the WICB over a number of issues.

Hinds, a former West Indies Test batsman who has been on the WIPA executive for Ramnarine’s entire tenure, yesterday expressed disappointment at the development.

“It is truly a depressing day for West Indian cricket to see Mr Ramnarine depart. We were well advised that this day will come but hoped it would never materialize,” Hinds said.

“We are all saddened by his decision, given his outstanding contribution and great personal sacrifice to WIPA.

“In the face of all adversity, his credibility and integrity, combined with his strong leadership qualities remain some of his strongest and greatest attributes, taking WIPA to great heights.”

WIPA secretary Andrew Richardson said Ramnarine’s resignation came as no surprise since he had always advocated and sought to refresh and reinvigorate the organization with new leadership.

“Mr Ramnarine shared last year that 2012 would be his last year with the organization. He has now completed a perfect decade.

We wish to recognize that he has served meritoriously over those ten years,” Richardson added.

WIPA directors took the opportunity to highlight achievements under Ramnarine, saying he was the was first to push the WICB to enter into a formal collective bargaining agreement for players and negotiated the single largest West Indian cricketer pay increase in history.

The directors also said the organization had now adopted a new constitution which aimed to bring the WIPA more in line with modern practices and the rules and guidelines of similar associations in the international cricketing world while maintaining good governance.

In addition to Hinds, Richardson and Hall, the other remaining WIPA executive members are assistant secretary Samuel Badree, treasurer Ramnaresh Sarwan, along with directors Dave Kissoon and Derik Lattibeaudiere.

I use to follow cricket in Carl Hooper days but thats about it. Most of us here are exclusive soccer fans.

Found this as well.

WICB gets tough with Ramnarine
KINGSTON, Jamaica, (CMC) – West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) officials have decided to cut contact with Dinanath Ramnarine, head of the regional players’ union, WIPA, until his conduct at meetings with the regional governing body improves. This is one of the key decisions directors of the WICB have taken at their meeting in the Jamaica capital this weekend.
The WICB said in a media release that it would continue to treat WIPA with “the highest degree of respect and as a principal partner in West Indies cricket”, and were willing to continue to engage the organisation on matters pertaining to the players.
“Given Dinanath Ramnarine’s threatening action towards the WICB Chief Executive Officer [Ernest Hilaire], and the unprofessional conduct of Ramnarine during a recent meeting on June, 14, the Board will no longer engage with Ramnarine on any issue unless there is a change in his behaviour and conduct,” stated a WICB media release.
The WICB’s action stems from last Tuesday’s meeting here between its management staff and West Indies team management, and embattled West Indies batsman Chris Gayle and WIPA.
“It is the Board’s stated view that Ramnarine has not demonstrated any willingness to constructively dialogue with the WICB in the best interest of West Indies cricket,” stated the WICB media release.
“The Board has directed management to communicate with WIPA to this effect.”
The WICB also said management had updated the directors about outstanding issues with Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, and Sulieman Benn.
“Management reported. . .that the attempts to discuss and resolve issues with Chris Gayle (as it pertains to his behaviour over the past months) ended inconclusively,” stated the media release.
“The WICB Management will continue efforts to resolve the issues with Gayle.”
Chanderpaul, who has been chosen in the squad for the first Test against India, starting on Monday at Sabina Park here, had also run afoul of the regional governing body, following a radio interview in which he was highly critical of team and WICB management officials.
“WICB Management met with Shivnarine Chanderpaul on Saturday, June 18, in what was a fruitful and productive meeting regarding his future involvement in West Indies cricket,” stated the media release.
Sulieman Benn however, has not been selected since the team returned from the World Cup, and it’s the first time that the WICB has officially indicated that they have issues with the beanpole spinner’s conduct.
“WICB Management will continue to engage Sulieman Benn in an attempt to resolve issues relating to his discipline and behaviour,” stated the media release.

Man, with WIP and WIBCC going back and forth over the past couple of years, Dinaz was always in the headline. I stop reading after a while because nothing was going to be resolved. Look what happen to the just abandoned tour of India.

I did not mean to say the impasse was his fault. He stood all the way with the players. I am surprised TTFA hired him. It would have a pleasant surprised if the current players had asked him to assist in forming a players union.

Ramnarine has been working with the TTFA for some time. He has been one of the committee members on the constitutional reform board since 2013.

I find local associations are famous for having committees but no one seemed you ever hear from them or do not know the exact roles they play or if anyone takes them seriously?

I think they just make up a committee member team to make some men feel good and in the end the bosses always makes the final decisions.

So FF, Ramnarine was with the TTFA all this time and you never hear from him and all this baccanal and still nothing.

Lets see what he will bring this time with his new role seeing that he is now getting paid and its official.

As for Wallace, another one for the payroll who don't do much.

Just now there will be most bosses than players.

Committee member is just another title.

Sando makes a good point here. While there is no clarity, we must rely upon Mr.Tim Kee statements alone, accept this, meanwhile, 400k of tax payers dollars (your hard earned money) and whatever else missing with the expulsion of one man, demote another.. but where is the money? Who is facing legal action for this?

Now I know why forum users like Sam and others always so upset and flames left and right. Will this ever stop? Will the TTFA ever be anything else than a burden to the government of tnt?

No offense, but your comments only reveal your own ignorance, and proves that people don't pay attention to what's going on with the TTFA unless it's bad news.  Just about a month ago it was explained that the TTFA wer working on a new constitution to modernize their governance structure and bring them current with FIFA's new standards.  A committee (Constitutional Reform Committee or "CRC") was formed to draft recommendations for a new constitution.  This isn't some "committee" for the sake of forming committee but an independent committee whose mandate it was to point the TTFA in a new direction.  You didn't hear anything from Ramnarine because he was only consulting with the TTFA, not working with them everyday on every little thing.

If there is no "clarity" as you say it's probably because there's so much confusion and misinformation floating around.  The Ministry of Sports hired the TTFA to organize a trip, a cultural exposition if you will, to Argentina, to use the friendly to promote TnT to South Americans.  The TTFA isn't in the business of being a travel agent so it put out a bid for tenders and Nissi Travel won the bid (the fact that there was an ex-national player in Charles involved only put the bid over the top).  Nissi quote $2.1 million TTD and the Ministry agreed to pay.  The Ministry sent the money to the TTFA, who then transferred the payments into Nissi Tours' bank account.  Things were paid for, the tour went off, not smoothly... but it went off okay in the end.

After the tour the TTFA decided to ask for an accounting of how the money was spent... which Nissi provided.  In the account, there was an item for a "licensing fee" for $400,000.00 ... which nobody at the TTFA knew anything about.  Atiba Charles (Nissi Tours) claims that Millien (who was working for the TTFA) requested the payments, during an exchange of text messages... and the rest as they say is history.  The money disappear, and Charles claims it disappeared because he gave it in cash to Millien.  On any level that is irresponsible, even if he's telling the truth about Millien.  Worse, he has no proof that he gave the cash to Millien, except two receipts... which Millien says do not bear his signature.

About the only thing in dispute is whether Nissi really did give cash to Millien or whether it was misspent and then they made up this story to cover it up.  Most people seem just accept that there was in fact a cash transfer... nobody seems to really be questioning that.  So that's it as far as "clarity" goes.  The police are investigating now.

what may be helpful is a dedicated post (with news - not necessarily comments) about everything relating to the FA?

It seems the 'bad' always gets more attention and the 'good' whatever that may be, gets lost in the chatter!
