GLASGOW, May 26 (Reuters) - Rangers have signed Sweden defender Karl Svensson from IFK Gothenburg on a three-year deal, the Scottish Premier League club said on Friday.
Svensson, who is in his country's squad for the World Cup in Germany, said: "I'm delighted to join a great club like Glasgow Rangers and this is the next step for me in my career.
"I loved my time at IFK Gothenburg but this is a wonderful chance for me to improve and progress as a player."
Rangers new manager Paul Le Guen added: "Karl is a terrific talent and I'm delighted he has agreed to join me at Rangers.
"He is a strong, powerful central defender and I look forward to working with him. Before that we wish him and (Czech midfielder) Libor Sionko every success in the World Cup."
Sionko, 29, was Le Guen's first big signing for Rangers when he joined on a free transfer from Austria Vienna this month. He is on standby for the Czech Republic's World Cup squad.
