use your ATM card and get Euros from a cash machine as needed

If you do this tho, be advised that many bank machines in Europe do not let you select accounts if your card has more than 1 account (perhaps only for foreign cards im not sure)
Make sure your main account or chequing account has enough funds in it before you leave....
i learned this the hard way in France...lots of money in the savings, but the chequing ran dry during the trip.....no more money withdraws for Ricky

It's got some truth. I live in the UK and I'm surprised that less people take CC's. However I don't think you'll struggle at all. Follow the previous advice, use your debit card to get Euros out of your account and then use your CC for larger amounts, it's got to be the simplest way.

I was thinking about just withdrawing euros when I get there.

The exchange rate in NYC is 1.40 US to 1 Euro...Yikes...

Walk with some cash, change in the airport. or ensure you have a visa or master card. But these are not used as much here since they use the EC card. It is like a debit card from the german bank account.
