Cricket Teams Face Off In Floyd Bennett Field

July 08, 2006

Members of the West Indies cricket team were in Brooklyn's Floyd Bennett Field Saturday to face off against the USA all-star team.

Cricket is similar to baseball, but instead of pitchers and hitters, they have bowlers and batsmen.

Fans of the sport say it's getting more popular in the United States.

"Look at the cricket, if you look at it you see it is much better than soccer, because with soccer you run up and down for the whole day, can't score, but cricket, you score a lot of runs," said cricket fan Roy McDonald.

"Cricket is a very exciting game,” said cricket fan Bobby Badloo. “I guess you got understand it like me. I come from Trinidad, from the West Indies. I never understood baseball, I thought it was boring, and gradually I got to know it, got to know basketball and it's the same thing with cricket."

The teams will meet again Sunday at Floyd Bennet Field.

New York is hosting the Cricket World Cup next year.
