HECTOR SAM
« on: July 13, 2006, 01:09:10 PM »
Released Port Vale striker Hector Sam is on trial at League Two side Walsall as he seeks a new club this summer.

The Trinidad & Tobago international endured an injury-ravaged spell at Vale Park after a tackle from Rotherham's Shaun Barker broke his leg early in the season.

After a brief spell on trial at Chester, Sam was one of four trialists who impressed during Walsall's 4-0 win over Halesowen Town.

Sam joined fellow striker Adam Proudlock, goalkeeper Saul Denney and defender Adam Stanton in the Walsall line-up with Sam lasting 65 minutes of the match.

GOOD LUCK HECTOR SAM SHAME WE DIDNT GET TO SEE THE BEST OF YOU

Saddlers 1 Baggies 2

By Rev. H Streete - Ender
Date: 15/7/2006

A dreadful own goal from Anthony Gerrard gifted West Bromwich Albion victory over Saddlers in Ian Roper's testimonial pre-season friendly.

Saddlers lined up with Clayton Ince in goal, Roper partnering Gerrard at the heart of defence and Westwood and Fox in the full back berths. Dobson and Kinsella occupied the engine room with Wright and Bedeou providing the width and ammunition for Butler and Hector Sam.Walsall totally dominated the first period and could have been two goals to the good before Greening gave Albion a 1-0 interval lead with a sublime finish on 41 minutes which gave keeper Ince no chance. The agility of Russell Hoult and some poor finishing kept Albion in the game.

On 5 minutes a good turn and run by Sam released Wright who was denied by a good save from Hoult. Saddlers kept their shape well and constantly asked questions of the Albion back line with Butler showing some good touches and movement off the ball. Despite his presence up front Butler managed to scuff one to the keeper from 3 yards following a run and low centre from Fox.

On 25 minutes a fantastic save from the visiting keeper kept out a blistering shot from Hector Sam after yet another good run.Despite Saddlers dominance and Albion's lack of inventiveness the Baggies took the lead courtesy of Greening. Albion broke down the left flank and tucked up Westwood like a kipper before Greening finished excellently into the top corner.

After half time Bedeau was replaced by Kris Taylor who moved to the left back spot with Fox going to the left flank. Five minutes into the second period Saddlers were on level terms after Martin Butler picked the ball up on the edge of the area and drilled one into the corner giving the Albion stopper no chance.

Midway through the second half Pead replaced Kinsella in the engine room and Saddler began to lose their shape. Albion grew in confidence and took the lead following a dreadful blunder by Gerrard. The ball was floated into Saddlers penalty area and under no pressure what-so-ever Gerrard contrived to head it past the stranded Ince.

Constable replaced Butler with 20 minutes remaining and unlike his showing against Halesowen didn't really impress. Although he showed willing to charge down a back pass to the keeper he was unable to convert into the gaping net.

Overall a good performance from Saddlers against a side two divisions higher. Butler is beginning to pick up his form and Hector Sam looks quite promising. Kinsella played much better than at The Grove and dominated the midfield whilst Dobson looked strong in the tackle.

On the negative side Westwood was made to look silly in the right back berth by Greening and Pead does not look good as a central midfielder against better opposition.

Promotion here we come……..
