Connection dethrone Cruz in Carapichaima

W CONNECTION football starlets are the new champions of the Carapichaima Youth Football League series, staged to commemorate the anniversary of the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.

They dethroned four-time defending Under-12 champs Cruz International 3-2 on penalties after the teams played to a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation time on Sunday last.

Cruz who had been winners over the past four seasons, took the lead only for Connection to grab the equaliser from the penalty spot.

But Cruz striker Rondell Austin was voted Most Valuable Player of the series.

For their victory, the W Connection team earned $1,200 in vouchers and a trophy, while Cruz International got the runners-up prize of $800 in vouchers and a trophy. Third placed Tunapuna Titans who edged Cap Off Youths 1-0 in their play-off match, collected $500 and a trophy.

Prizes were distributed by Central Football Association president Brian Layne and youth development officer Lloyd Walters.

There were 11 teams contesting the competition - Cruz International; Siparia United; Las Lomas; RSSR Football Academy; Point Fortin Civic Centre; Central Football Academy; Tunapuna Titans; Cap Off Youths; W Connection; Tabaquite United; Balmain FC.

Quarter-final results: CRUZ INTERNATIONAL (1) vs POINT FORTIN CC (0); W CONNECTION (1) vs RSSR (0); TUNAPUNA TITANS (2) vs LAS LOMAS (0); CAP OFF YOUTHS (1) vs TABAQUITE (0).

Semi-finals: CRUZ INTERNATIONAL (2) vs TUNAPUNA TITANS (0); W CONNECTION (1) vs CAP OFF YOUTHS (0).
