Yorke to miss Sunday's clash with groin strain
Sydney FC

Sydney FC Captain Dwight Yorke has been ruled out of tomorrow’s Pre Season Cup clash with Perth Glory and will not travel to Japan with his Trinidad & Tobago team mates for a friendly international on Wednesday after picking up a minor groin strain during the week.

Yorke underwent an MRI scan yesterday and it showed a slight strain in his left groin tendon. He started treatment on the injury this morning as his team mates prepared for the final group stage match against Perth Glory at WIN Stadium.

The former Manchester United star will visit a groin specialist this week as the Sydney FC medical staff wants to make sure there is no chance of further injury before he resumes training.

“From our point of view the results of the preliminary scan are positive but we want to make sure that it is right before he gets back into training,” said Sydney FC coach Terry Butcher.

Yorke was due to make his first appearance of the season on Sunday after his post-World Cup break and is disappointed he will not be able to join his Sydney FC team mates in the clash with Perth.

“I’m disappointed. I came back from the World Cup and worked very hard to get fit and I was really starting to feel sharp again. I was looking forward to getting out on the pitch but this has set me back a little,” Yorke said.

“I will now make sure I get things right because the start of the A-League is only three weeks away.”
