Funny you should say that Sam. When Bago Sports held their first Beach Soccer tournament in 2010, Sancho's VFI team entered. The Barbados National beach soccer team were competing and included the Caribbean's top beach footballer. VFI, comprised of ex players such as Leonson Lewis, Darin Lewis and several young Trinidad and Tobago youths (and yours truly!). We didn't even know the rules (such as you must wear socks).

The Barbados team manager, a rather sweet young lady at the press conference, virtually physically attacked Darin Lewis after we defeated her team! Her verbal onslaught went on for about 3 minutes and eventually she had to be pulled away! The fact that we didn't know how to play the game really vexed her. Particularly as we went on to win the tournament!

It was an excellent weekend, with lots of locals watching the games and good participation from local teams.

Beach football has a different set of skills and tactics, but once you're smart enough to figure out the game, no real prior experience is necessary and a skilled player can win a game for you.

You do not need a beach to play beach football. Just the sand. Guyana has a beach football facility and they have been playing for a while now. This was BagoSports first game as a team since their formation and they beat the Guyanase national team!

Chad Appoo has the skills needed for beach football. Beach football is played more in the air than on the ground and he has excellent ball handling skills. Regular football probably was just too easy, he needed a challenge!

Brazilian coach finalises T&T beach soccer squad.
T&T Guardian Reports.

T&T Beach Soccer head coach Alexandre Soares yesterday announced a 12-member squad to represent this country at the Concacaf Beach Soccer World Qualifiers in the Bahamas next month.

Soares has been working with the local squad for the past few weeks and has as his assistant American Benvan Astorga. Both coaches have impressive backgrounds in beach soccer.

Soares has been the head coach of Brazil’s national beach soccer team, guiding them to 145 wins in 150 matches. He led them to being champions on four occasions at the Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup in 2006/2007/2008 and 2009. He is also a Fifa-licensed instructor.

Astorga meantime is an ex-USA national beach soccer player and also the general manager for Florida Beach Soccer club.

T&T beach soccer team drops Brazil select 4-1.
T&T Guardian Reports.

T&T’s beach soccer players will depart for Jamaica today en route to The Bahamas for the Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup qualifiers, fresh off an encouraging come-from-behind 4-1 victory over a select Brazil all-star team, on Friday night.

The friendly match was played at Saith Park, Chaguanas, with T&T taking a reassuring result ahead of its inaugural competitive outing as a recognised beach soccer team. The Concacaf qualification tournament will kick off on Wednesday.

The home team rebounded confidently from a 1-0 deficit inflicted by Brazil’s Cai Carvalho in the first of three periods, with a goal from former national defender Makan Hislop in the second period. The Tobago-born Hislop, a cousin of legendary T&T custodian Shaka Hislop has made a strong case for automatic selection after impressing for his club BagoSports, which boasts of five players on the 12-man national beach soccer squad.

Not long into the third and final period, former University of South Carolina forward Hakeem King scored to hand T&T its first lead of the encounter. T&T midfielder Elijah Roberts subsequently doubled up and a Brazil-own goal by Gabriel Novaes ensured a spirited victory for the World Cup hopefuls.

It was an essential test courtesy of connections made by T&T’s Brazilian head coach Alexandre Soares, who invited the players for the friendly. Soares, a four-time Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup winner, issued the invitation to the players, some of whom have already made a visit to T&T in a successful challenge of the BagoSports Invitational Beach Soccer Championship, in Tobago, last year. Brazil won the said tournament, while the host finished third.

Guyana withdraw from CONCACAF Qualifier
beachsoccer.com

One day before the beginning of the competition, the Guyana Football Association has officially communicated to Beach Soccer Worldwide and CONCACAF that some administrative reasons will not allow them to take part in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2013 – CONCACAF Qualifier Bahamas, a participation they had already confirmed through official means.

Obviously, the no-participation of the Guyanese side has an immediate impact in the competition format, as group B becomes a three-team group, so it necessarily needs to behave as Group C does. Consequently, and as can be observed in the match schedule below, the second-ranked team and the third-ranked team in group B (featuring Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago and Canada) will also play one last game so that they get the chance to dispute nine points, just as the rest of the groups do.

This way, all teams are granted equal options in the fight to be the best second of the three groups, a position that means advancing to the semifinals.

As a result, the whole match schedule gets redefined, and goes as follows:

Wednesday, 8th of May, 2013
13:15 – United States vs Guatemala
14:30 – El Salvador vs Jamaica
15:45 – Puerto Rico vs Bahamas
17:00 – Mexico vs Canada

Thursday, 9th of May, 2013
12:00 – Costa Rica Vs Jamaica
13:15 – United States Vs Puerto Rico
15:45 – Bahamas vs Guatemala
17:00 – Mexico vs Trinidad & Tobago

Friday, 10th of May, 2013
10:45 –Canada vs Trinidad & Tobago
12:00 – El Salvador vs Costa Rica
13:15 – Guatemala vs Puerto Rico
14:30 – Bahamas vs United States
15:45 – 2nd Group B vs 3rd Group B
17:00 – 2nd Group C vs 3rd Group C

Saturday, 11th of May 2013
13:15 – Playoff 9th vs 10th place
14:30 – Playoff 7th vs 8th place
15:45 – Semifinal 1
17:00 – Semifinal 2

Sunday, 12th of May, 2013
14:30 – Playoff for the 5th place
15:45 – Playoff for the 3rd place
17:00 – Final
The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.
