No need to replace Lawrence
By Christopher Beesley (Wrexham Daily Post)

WREXHAM defender Ryan Valentine has told boss Denis Smith to keep his chequebook closed as he believes the current squad are good enough to fill the void left by Dennis Lawrence's departure.

Trinidad & Tobago centre-back Lawrence was a towering presence in more ways than one at the heart of the Dragons' defence before his departure to Swansea City last week.

But while it was feared Wrexham might struggle at the back following his exit, Smith's side have followed up a derby success over Chester City with a 4-1 giant-killing of Sheffield Wednesday.

Valentine said: "Dennis leaving was obviously a big loss for us, but I believe that the gaffer doesn't need to bring anyone in because we've already got the quality here to fill the position.

"Shaun Pejic came in for the Chester game and did well, Mike Williams did well against Wednesday while Gareth Evans came off the bench for us."

With Steve Evans suspended for the trip to Hillsborough, Valentine, at just 24 last month, was Wrexham's oldest defender, but he is unconcerned by Wrexham's youthful rearguard.

He said: "I'm used to being one of the younger members in the back four but while some of the lads lack experience, they're all more than capable."
The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.
