Benjamin named PBC Player of the Week
pacersports.com
Senior defender Wacey Benjamin has been named the Peach Belt Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. The selection marks the first time a Pacer player has earned the distinction since 1999. Benjamin had a standout week for USCA, who defeated two conference foes to vault to the top of the Peach Belt standings for the first time ever this deep into a season. Primarily counted on to anchor the Pacer defense, Benjamin added some offense in USCA’s upset over #20 Lander. The senior’s 69th minute goal proved to be the game-winner in the 2-1 victory. The Couva, Trinidad, native also made a huge impact defensively, helping to shutout Lander over the game’s final 83 minutes before leading the Pacers to a 2-0 shutout win over North Georgia on Saturday. That win gave the Pacers the lead in the Peach Belt with only three games remaining. Benjamin has now scored two goals on the season while helping the defense to a 0.75 goals
against average in conference play.

ougrizzlies.com
Freshman Stefan St. Louis (Chaguanas, Trinidad) was named Mid-Continent Conference Offensive Player of the Week. He was selected for his efforts in guiding Oakland to a pair of 2-1 victories over Michigan State and IUPUI last week. St. Louis netted the game-winning goal in both Golden Grizzly wins. He has registered three goals in his last four contests, all game winners; he currently leads the team in scoring with four goals and eight points. This is the first offensive player of the week award for St. Louis.

All about the Benjamins
Wacey Benjamin's (former St. Benedict's College) controversial goal gives USC Aiken their first win over a nationally ranked team since 2002 as they defeated Lander University 2-1.

Here is the description of the goal:
The Pacers threw the ball in play where it rolled out to Wacey Benjamin. The defender drilled a shot past Lander keeper Garrett Daum and into the net. The Lander coaching staff and many players did not think the goal counted, as some of them thought that play was stopped due to an apparent substitution. However, the whistle never blew and the goal stood. Lost in the controversy was Benjamin’s impressive goal, which was a beautiful curving shot from 25 yards out that Daum had no chance to get his hands on. Benjamin’s second goal of the season proved to be the game-winner in the 69th minute.

Crooks with a goal and assist
Kevin Crooks (former Signal Hill Senior Comprehensive) was instrumental in Clayton College & State University's 4-2 win over North Greenville University. Crooks was the provider of Hailab Habtom's goal in the 8th minute. Crooks scored his goal in the 14th minute on an assist by Habtom.

St. Louis battled an MSU defender one-on-one at the 25-yard line, won the ball and went in on a clean breakaway up the middle. From Peach Belt  Conference website

10.11.06 (Wednesday)
Men's Soccer Update For Wednesday, October 11

Close calls are nothing new in PBC soccer, but Wednesday night had more than its fair share of exciting finishes with three games going down to the wire and five being decided by one goal.

...

Clayton State didn't expect to have much trouble with Georgia Southwestern, but the Hurricanes came to play in Morrow, pushing the Lakers into double overtime before Clayton's Kevin Crooks scored the game-winner in the 104th minute. Crooks had two goals in the game.

(I know he played only a half in their previous match (Saturday) so this is a good bounce back for him)

Whatever you do, do it to the purpose; do it thoroughly, not superficially. Go to the bottom of things. Any thing half done, or half known, is in my mind, neither done nor known at all. Nay, worse, for it often misleads.
