Inter-Bank teams fight for title
Source: Trinidad Newsday

FOUR teams. One league title.

Is all up for grabs as the final weekend for the Inter-Bank Football League looms.

The teams in the title chase are Aero Services, Eastern Credit Union, RBTT and Citigroup who all have a chance to win the league tomorrow.

Coincidentally, these four teams are in match-ups against each other.

Eastern lead the league with 20 points, Aero are second with 18, RBTT are third with 18 while Citigroup are fourth with 17. Aero will play RBTT 4 pm at Republic Bank Ground in Barataria while Citibank play Eastern at the same time at Mount St Benedict Ground in St Augustine.

The maths to the title:

1 Eastern must defeat Citigroup either outright, or via a penalty shoot-out to capture the title.

2 Aero must defeat RBTT and hope Citigroup either beat Eastern outright or via a penalty shoot-out to capture title.

3 RBTT must beat Aero and hope Citigroup defeat Eastern outright to capture title.

4 Citigroup must defeat Eastern and hope Aero and RBTT draw to capture the title on goal difference.

Last weekend Aero Services played Central Bank with both teams needing a win badly to stay in the title race.

Central Bank took the lead very early on with some quick and timely passes. However Aero equalised through Sean Ayoung midway in the half.

But Central regained control again with neat passing and quick shooting at the first post past the Aero custodian.

Second half saw much of the same game plan of both teams went at each other. In the last 15 minutes Aero outplayed Central to regain control where it matters...with goals.

Aero went on to win the thriller 3-2 with others goals from Gino Diaz and Jabari Samuel. In the second match, Eastern Credit Union defeated UTC 3-1. UTC played most of the match with nine men and were fortunate not to go ahead on several occasions.

At Mount St Benedict ground Citigroup made easy work in defeating FCB 10-2 despite the absence of the IBFL leading scorer Marc Anatol.

Hattricks were scored by Alvin “Flash” Thomas, Ashton Boisselle and Delano Ashby. The other goals came from Ronald Phillip and Branden “Bambi” Carasquero.

In the second match TATIL defeated Republic Bank 3-1 with a double from Samuel Greene and the other item from Miguel Cico.

In other news, an IBFL All Star team will play a Diego Martin League combined team at the Diego Martin Recreation Ground at 4 pm on Tuesday.
