'Calypso Girls' face Jamaica in 3-match series
By Mervyn Stewart (Trinidad Express)

TRINIDAD and Tobago's "Calypso Girls" will travel to Jamaica next week for a three-match friendly series against their hosts, the "Sunshine Girls".
Both nations are using the series as early match preparation for next year's World Netball Championships (WNC) in Sauva, Fiji from July 10-21.
The Trinidad and Tobago squad, rated tenth at the last World Championships in Kingston in 2003, will come face-to-face with third-place finishers Jamaica in what is expected to be a thrilling series.
The girls in red, white and black recently returned from Barbados victorious after beating the seventh-ranked Bajans on the final night to secure the first-ever zonal qualifier for the Americas region.
Goal-shooter Romelda Aitken, a key figure in successful Jamaica national Under-16 teams of the past and team MVP at last year's World Under-21 Championships in Florida, USA, steps up to the senior level and there is a recall for veteran Althea Byfield.
The nucleus of the hosts' team that placed fourth-beaten 53-52 by England in the bronze medal match at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne last March-are retained, including captain Elaine Davis.

TEAMS:

JAMAICA-Elaine Davis, Simone Forbes, Nichala Gibson, Althea Byfield, Sasha-Gaye Henry, Nicole Aitken, Nadine Bryan, Kasey Evering, Jodi-Ann French, Marvetta Murray, Romelda Aitken, Peter-Gaye Thomas.

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO-Simone Bowen-Sandy (capt), Janelle Barker,
Lystra Zamore, Simone Morgan, Nattlie Pierre, Sonia Jack, Tricia Liverpool, Anika La Roche, Glennis Hall, Rhonda John-Davis, Ayana Hamlet, Chrystal George.

That Jamaican team we saw at Commonwealth was pretty sharp. This will be a good measuring stick for the progress, or lack thereof, of our netball ladies.

Trinidad to play England in 3 match series according to BBC.

http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/netball/32218556

England's netball interim head coach Tracey Neville has named her first squad which includes Sonia Mkoloma.

Defender Mkoloma, 36, has not represented her country since 2011, but has been included to face Trinidad & Tobago in a three-match series in May.

Neville is without players from teams in the ANZ Championships in Australia and New Zealand - including defender Geva Mentor and shooter Jo Harten.

The squad for the Netball Europe Open in Belfast has also been named.

Neville, the sister of former England football internationals Gary and Phil, replaced Anna Mayes as head coach last month and will remain in charge at least until this summer's World Cup.

England squad to face Trinidad & Tobago on 6, 8 and 11 May

Sara Bayman, Sam Cook, Pamela Cookey, Kadeen Corbin, Sasha Corbin, Rachel Dunn, Stacey Francis, Layla Guscoth, Natalie Haythornthwaite, Helen Housby, Laura Malcolm, Sonia Mkoloma

Reserves: Sophia Candappa and Naida Hutchinson

England squad for Netball Europe Open between 14 and 17 May

Sara Bayman, Sally Butters, Sam Cook, Pamela Cookey, Kadeen Corbin, Rachel Dunn, Stacey Francis, Tamsin Greenway, Layla Guscoth, Helen Housby, Laura Malcolm, Sonia Mkoloma

Good luck to the Calypso Girls at this year World Cup. Hopefully they can revive the netball success of the 1970's and 1980's.
