By: Mervyn Stewart (Trinidad Express).

Trinidad and Tobago's Secondary Schools Under-20 footballers will face their Jamaican counterparts in an annual clash of regional Secondary Schools Football League's teams at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium this afternoon.
The first clash of the two-match series kicks off at 4.00 pm, while the second game is carded for Queens Royal College ground on Monday afternoon.
T&T have a contingent of 22 players in training under the watchful eyes of coach Leon Carpette and his assistant Trevor Spicer.
The local contingent include goalkeepers Gelnroy Samuel (San Juan Sec) and Jeremy Tenia (St Benedict's); defenders Cion Samuel (Naparima), Duane James (St Anthony's), Gyasi Joyce (St Agustine), Keion Goodridge (Mucurapo), Dwayne Nicome (Malick), Holland Joseph (St Augustine), Jerome Williams (Scarborough); midfielders Solomon Bereton (Moruga), Keston Smith (Naparima), Trevin Caesar (Scarborough), Keron Doldron (QRC), Yuwil Legendre Scott (Trinity), Anthony Guppy (San Juan), Elijah Manners (San Juan), Renato Ramcharan (Naparima), and strikers Nigel Wright (Naparima), Jonathan Glenn (St Anthony's), Kevon Piper (Mucurapo) and Ricardo Peltier (Mucurapo).
The Jamaican contingent are expected to field at least seven of their Under-20 players who suffered a 1-0 loss the T&T outfit in the recent CFU Under-20 qualifying series. Jamaica won that series 2-1 on aggregrate after capturing the first encounter 2-0 and they will be full of confidence going into this afternoon's fixture. The junior "Reggae Boyz" also won last year's edition of this series by capturing both legs on home soil.

[/size]

The Secondary Schools Football League has invited an All Star Jamaican Schools Football team to come and play a team comprising the best from our own schools league. The Jamaican contingent will arrive here on December 7th, and will play three matches on the 9th, 11th and 12th. The first game will be played at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, while the other two are tentatively set for the St. Augustine Senior Comprehensive School Grounds.
Secondary Schools players who have been selected for the Trinidad and Tobago National U-20 team will be ineligible to play these matches as they are already committed to preparations for the next phase in the quest for World Cup qualification.
The technical staff selected to coach, manage and select the SSFL all star team comprises Mr. Leon Carpette of Carapichiama, Mr. Trevor Spicer of El Dorado Senior Comprehensive and Mr. Arnim Phillip (Manager).
Trials for selection to the SSFL All Star team have already begun, with screening sessions being held in Skinner Park on November 15th, and the Ato Boldon Stadium on the November 17th. The next screening session will be held at the El Dorado Senior Comprehensive School grounds on Sunday 26th November from 3:00 p.m. For further information on the SSFL All Star Team or screening sessions, contact Mr. Arnim Phillip at 725-5541.

But we play Jamaica on the 2nd and home on the 6th. Why cant some of the national players play at least the last two games on the 11 & 12th ? not that they will have to make extra arrangments, they would allready be at home.... We cant make these Jamaicans beat a make up T&T team and they come over here and brag....

By the way, what is our under 20 team up to ? are they playing any games ? they have less than 2 weeks remaining.

I was just about to post the same thing.
Since when yuh have to try out for an All Star Team?

My only hope is that those in charge recognize that they cant possbile know all the players in the league and thusly invited everyone to try out in the hopes o picking the best team.

I assume if Jca have any of thier guys on the Nat'l team they will miss these games as will our boys, but it would be nice to see full strength squads for the last match, who knows it might be the tie breaker match.

Because the schoolboy team that plays the first game needs to train together for a short time and build some chemistry. They should stick together and play the remaining two games. It is counterproductive to bring in new faces mid-stride..not to mention sending the wrong message to the dropped youths. At the same time, the under 20 nationals must prepare for their qualifiers without any distraction and with the mindset that they will win and move on. In which case it is better they not risk injury in the schoolboy games after. We have an opportunity to give a larger pool of Under 20 players some international experience...schoolboys and nationals..let's use it.

Sometimes is like we contradicting ourselves,at one time the talk was the level of the Colleges Football is not good, the national team players should not play there, from what i understand this is not a Jamaica national team it's a school team, why not allow the guys who not on the national team the opportunity to get some exposure, why people does panic like this?it's all about development of our Football,we so want to beat Jamaica so let our national team play their school team.

Jamaican under-20 schoolers to form Issa All Jamaica squad
RadioJamaica.com

Members of Jamaica's national under-20 squad, who are still in school, will form the nucleus of the Issa All Jamaica squad for the two match challenge series against their counterparts from Trinidad and Tobago in Port of Spain next month.
After hosting Trinidad and Tobago on December 2nd in the first leg of the home and away under-20 playoff for the third and final Caribbean Berth into the CONCACAF final, the national squad will then play away in the second leg on December 2.

In a bid to reduce expenses, RJR Sports understands that national squad members who competed in the Dacosta and Manning Cup competitions will remain for the All Schools Games on December 10 and 12.

They will be joined by selected players and an additional coach for the games.

The dates for the All Island Oliver Shield playoffs, December 6 and 9, could just be changed.

So a 4 match series win for our U-20 REGGAE BOYZ against T&T in the cards next month.  Good way to end 2006.

Yeah ok
That's right. Keep in mind that T&T U-20s have two warm-up games against Venezuela U-20s. Clueless Creston has arrange none for Jamaica's U-20s.
But what will have our U-20 REGGAE BOYZ ready is the image of their T&T rivals.  :beermug:
