Jabloteh boot out defending FA champs Joe Public with extra time goals
By: ttproleague.com

Extra time goals by Jerrel Britto and Jason Marcano gave San Juan Jabloteh a 2-0 win over Bmobile Joe Public on Friday night at the Marvin Lee Stadium in the Round of 16 booting the 2009 winners out of this season’s competition.

It was the feature clash of the Round of 16 and after 90 minutes, it followed similar fashion of an earlier clash between Caledonia AIA and Defence Force Super League which went into extra time.

Seconds into extra time substitute Jerrel Britto was well positioned to tap into an open net when he was picked out by another substitute, Hector Sam from the left to give Jabloteh a 1-0 advantage.

Joe Public trouble doubled two minutes later when Jevon Morris was adjudged to have fouled Marcano inside the area when referee Nigel Roberts pointed to the spot.

Marcano poised himself over the ball and comfortably slotted it into the right corner beating goalkeeper Marvin Phillip who dived the wrong direction putting the scores 2-0.

Jabloteh who finished the match with 10-men following defender Jamal Jack’s red card sending off in the 110th minute joins fellow Pro League clubs Ma Pau SC, St. Ann’s Rangers, DIRECTV North East Stars, Defence Force and Caledonia AIA in quarterfinal round of the 2010 FA Trophy.

Jack who provided some good defending during regulation time sacrificed himself with a late tackle on Andre Toussaint just outside the area as the Joe Public attacker weaved his way towards the penalty area.

The goalless regulation time saw Jabloteh failing to hit the target in the 27th minute after a decent buildup towards goal after Willis Plaza and Marvin Oliver exchanged a number of passes before Plaza was set free on the right. However the makeshift forward’s effort was too high.

Joe Public winger Hayden Tinto had an excellent opening when a missed clearance landed the ball in his path, but despite being one on one with goalkeeper Cleon John, Tinto was unable to beat the Jabloteh custodian.

The Lions had another opening in the 58th minute however defender Jevon Morris failed to do best after meeting Kareem Young’s cross from the right when he headed overbar.

In the earlier clash on Friday night Caledonia AIA were on the winning side of a hardfought 2-1 score over the Super League Defence Force.

Joe Public 0—2 San Juan Jabloteh
;  Jerrel Britto 91’, Jason Marcano 93’

Joe Public—Marvin Phillip, Kerry Baptiste (capt), Makan Hislop, Jevon Morris (Yellow), Kareem Young, Andre Toussaint, Trent Noel (Devon Jamerson 96th) (Gason Gregory 62nd), Hayden Tinto (Yellow), Yu Hoshide (Micah Lewis 62nd), Nigel Daniel, Marvin Manswell.

Coach—Derek King.

San Juan Jabloteh—Cleon John, Marvin Oliver (capt) (Yellow), Elijah Manners (Johan Peltier 77th), Ataullah Guerra, Robert Primus (Yellow), Jason Marcano, Kennedy Hinkson (Hector Sam 91st) (Yellow), Willis Plaza (Jerrel Britto 67th), Joel Russell (Yellow), Jamal Jack (Yellow) (Red), Sheldon Bateau.

The biggest mistake for JP is when they took Tinto and Yu off in the 62nd minute at the same time.

- Not sure if Tinto was tired but he surely adds spark to the team. He torments the San Juan defenders but his ability to cross consistently lets him down sometimes. Maybe he was injured? IDK

- Yu is the ONLY player on JP that was keeping the ball and they took him off. What had me mind boggled was the fact that JP likes to keep the ball by finding players feet. Therefore, why take off the ONLY player that helps the team do that the best?

When both players were taken out, JP fell apart. There was NO spark and they had problems keeping the ball. I didn't understand it but the results showed.

All credit to San Juan though, there defense looked solid and very organized.

Overall, both teams showed POOR signs of professionalism. Players attitude on the field (towards their teammates and coaches) are PISS POOR. It was sad to see; but things can only get better (I hope?).

Anyways, good game San Juan. All the best moving forward.

San Juan Jabloteh into FA Trophy final.

Jabloteh beat Cali in FA Trophy semis
...meet North East Stars in final
By Kern De Freitas (Express).

Call it bravery, call it persistence, call it luck. But ten-man San Juan Jabloteh needed a little bit of each on Wednesday night to get past Caledonia AIA 7-6 on kicks from the penalty spot and into the FA Trophy final.

At the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya, Jason Marcano missed Jabloteh's second shoot-out attempt. Two Caledonia tries later, it was Daneil Cyrus's effort that was only just saved by Caledonia goalkeeper Kevin Graham.

Jabloteh goalie Cleon John saved from Akim Armstrong in sudden death, and Sheldon Bateau netted the winner to spark Jabloteh celebrations.

Jabloteh will now face North-East Stars in the January 26 finale after the Sangre Grande outfit upset Defence Force 2-0 in the late match, at the same venue, through a brace by captain Charles Pollard.

That the action got that far was all due to a very entertaining second half and then, 30 gruelling minutes of extra time, all of which failed to alter the 2-2 regulation time deadlock.

After 59 minutes Jabloteh were cruising with a 2-0 lead, handed to them by Jason Marcano and Hector Sam within 17 minutes on either side of half-time.

But after Jabloteh lost left back Joel Russell to two bookable offences, Caledonia erased the advantage through strikes by Ryan Stewart, the second coming late on.

The first half belonged to Jabloteh, particularly since they wrested the half-time advantage through Marcano. Before they could seize control though, the Bourg Mulatresse side had to weather the early Caledonia storm.

But Caledonia let themselves down in the attacking third of the field. They should have been toasting the first goal when Conrad Smith stole into space on the right of Jabloteh's six-yard box, only to blast wide of John's near post.

After the first ten minutes Jabloteh grabbed the attacking momentum, yet their composure up front left something to be desired. Caledonia defender Cyrus was allowed to escape after a defensive blunder while for Jabloteh, right back Christon Thomas's ball was too long for left wing Jamal Jack.

Even captain Marvin Oliver missed a sitter from 18 metres, poking tamely at Graham.

But for Marcano, his 42nd minute chance was too easy as another "Cali" mistake saw the loose ball fall between Marcano and teammates Jerrel Britto and Atualla Guerra. Britto headed down after some hesitation and Marcano picked his spot low into Graham's near post.

Despite a Caledonia resurgence early in the second half, Jabloteh doubled their lead in the 59th.

On the break, Guerra laid off for Thomas on the right, and he whipped in a cross to Sam inside the left penalty area, whose deft chip found Graham's far post.

But the match changed when Russell was sent off for his second yellow card. His indiscipline put a damper on the contest, with his tortoise-like retreat from the field despite the urgings of both the referee and Jabloteh coach Terry Fenwick.

The other crucial moment was Caledonia's double substitution in the 61st by coach Jamaal Shabazz, with Densill Theobald and Armstrong replacing Travis Mulraine and Conrad Smith.

Three minutes later, Cali's comeback had officially started, with Theobald's perfect through-pass finding Stewart on the right of the penalty area, and his right-footed shot beat John first time to the far post.

Perhaps they had little choice with a player disadvantage, but Jabloteh defended deep into their own half, allowing Caledonia more room to attack.

Caledonia were rewarded in the 88th, leaving Fenwick fuming. Substitute Armstrong blazed down the right flank, leaving Jabloteh substitute Elijah Manners in his wake, and laid off for Stewart's right-footed far post finish.

And after 30 minutes of extra time, which Jabloteh controlled despite their disadvantage, it took a shoot-out to separate the teams.

But Jabloteh showed character after falling behind, through two crucial saves by John to strike the final winning blow.

Results.

San Juan Jabloteh 2 (Jason Marcano 42nd, Hector Sam 59th) vs Caledonia AIA 2 (Ryan Stewart 64th, 88th).
Jabloteh won 7-6 on penalties.

North East Stars 2 (Charles Pollard 24th, 45th+) vs Defence Force 0.

Pollard heads Stars into FA final.
T&T Guardian Reports.

San Juan Jabloteh and DirecTV North East Stars, both former winners will meet in the January 26 final of the T&T Football Federation FA Trophy competition after contrasting semi-final victories at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya on Wednesday.

In the first match of the night’s double-header, Jabloteh, winners in 1998 and 2005 squandered a 2-0 lead before getting the better of 2008 champion, Caledonia AIA 7-6 on sudden-death penalty kicks thanks to goalkeeper, Cleon John.

Three minutes before the halftime interval, Jabloteh took a 1-0 lead when a right-sided centre by, national Under-20 captain and Sporting Kansas City target, Sheldon Bateau ricocheted off team-mate Hector Sam’s chest into the path of fellow striker Britto, who then played the ball off to Jason Marcano to fire past Jamaican goalkeeper Kevin Graham.

Jabloteh added to its tally in the 59th when a right-sided cross from Christan Thomas was missed by Caledonia’s Abdullah Phillip and fell to Sam, who took the ball on his chest before he guided a right footer into the top left corner of the goal.

But a minute later, Jabloteh was reduced to ten men when midfielder, Joel Russell was shown a second yellow card by referee Rashby Mc Phie. Russell was issued the second card for a silly lunge on substitute Akim Armstrong, who was introduced right after the second goal along with Densill Theobald.

It did not take long for Caledonia to capitalise as Armstrong fed Theobald a short pass, and he sliced Jabloteh’s defence open with a pass to Ryan Stewart who fired a low right-footed effort past goalkeeper Cleon John for a 2-1 scoreline.

Caledonia's Ishmael Daniel then missed a glaring chance in the 70th minute when he volleyed straight at John from less than six-yards out after a Jean-Luc Roacford cross deflected off Jabloteh’s Ataullah Guerra into his path.

Three minutes from the end of regulation time, Caledonia’s persistence brought reward when Armstrong picked up a pass from ‘keeper Graham on the half, outpaced Jabloteh’s Elijah Manners down the flank and centred for Stewart.

The rhasta hair-styled midfielder then re-directed the ball past a surprised John with a one-time volley for a 2-2 score to set up the 30-minutes of extra-time which failed to separate both teams.

In the penalty shoot-out, Kareem Joseph, Guyana’s Walter Moore, Roachford and Stephan David all scored while lanky defender Daneil Cyrus saw his team’s fourth attempt pushed onto the base of the right post by John.

On the other hand Jabloteh’s, Manners, Kennedy Hinkson, Atualla Guerra and Oliver also scored while Marcano had the second attempt saved by Graham to send the match into sudden-death.

Stewart and Daneil confidently netted for Caledonia while Thomas and Johan Peltier were also successful for Jabloteh.

Daniel was next with Caledonia’s eighth effort which was kept out by John diving low to his left and with a chance to seal victory for Jabloteh, Bateau then slammed home past Graham to seal a spot in the final.

While the first match needed penalty-kicks to find a winner, the second match was virtually over by the end of the first-half, as Guyanese international defender, Charles Pollard first-half brace sealed a 2-0 win for Stars over Defence Force.

FA winners’ in 2003, Pollard headed Stars in front in the 37th minute when he connected with a right-sided cross from Kevaughn Connell.

Then on the stroke of halftime, Pollard started and ended a counter-attack from his own 18-yard box, by burying a right footer past Graham after receiving a pass from Anthony Wolfe, and eluding Defence Force’s Richard Roy and Ronald St Louis inside the area.

But the “Teteron Boys”, winner in 1974, 1981, 1985, 1989, 1991 and 1996 have only themselves to blame as coach Ross Russell surprisingly left top scorer, Devon Jorsling, captain Corey Rivers, Albert Thornhill and Dexter Pacheco on the bench to start the match.

And despite the introduction of three of the regulars in the second-half, the deficit proved too much to overcome.

CALEDONIA AIA: Kevin Graham; Daniel Cyrus, Kemron Purcell, Ishmael Daniel, Kareem Joseph; Travis Mulraine (Densill Theobald 61st), Stephan David (capt), Abdallah Phillip (Walter Moore 80th), Ryan Stewart; Conrad Smith (Akim Armstrong 61st).

Jabloteh crowned FA Trophy champs.
ttproleague.com

An early Kennedy Hinkson strike and some superb saves by goalkeeper Cleon John were influential in San Juan Jabloteh being crowned the 2010 FA Trophy Champions in Friday’s Final at the Marvin Lee Stadium with a 1-0 win over DIRECTV North East Stars.

Jabloteh stole a 1-0 advantage two minutes into the match when Hinkson received a pass on the right and from inside the area the speedy winger held off Kevaughn Connell all the way to the edge of the six yard area before slamming a shot past Michael Woods and into the far netting.

The early goal proved the winner after ninety-four minutes of play giving the Terry Fenwick coached side the FA Trophy and the $80,000.00 winners take.

Meantime 2003 FA winners North East Stars, which enjoyed a 1-0 win against Jabloteh in the final of this season’s Lucozade Sport Goal Shield last August, had to settle for the runners-up share of $40,000.00 on Friday.

Hinkson gave the 1998 and 2005 FA winners the advantage on Friday night, but it was goalkeeper John who preserved that advantage throughout to put his team’s name as 2010 champs.

In the sixth from a North East set piece at the edge of the Jabloteh area saw John execute a brilliant save to keep out Gary Glasgow blast.

John made an even bigger save in the 30th minute which had the Marvin Lee Stadium crowd (the majority from North East Stars) at its loudest when Glasgow met a long pass forward with a powerful volley only to be denied by the Jabloteh goalie.

On the stroke of halftime Jabloteh missed out on a wonderful opening when Jason Marcano wrong-footed his shot wide with only goalkeeper Woods to beat to the disappointment of the San Juan supporters after Hector Sam threaded a low pass through the North East defence.

Fifteen minutes inside the second period, despite taking a more defensive approach, Jabloteh created an opening when Marcano whipped a cross from the left finding Guerra, but the midfielder’s tame head was easily gloved away by Woods.

However Jabloteh’s decision to defend their one goal advantage created a lot of scares in defence, however goalkeeper John was at his best when needed.

In the 92nd minute of play the Jabloteh custodian showed why he is considered one of the best goalkeepers in Trinidad and Tobago when he made a reflex save to deny a low blast against Sean Fraser to keep a clean sheet, helping his side capture the FA Trophy.

ok.. i eh no report man...but i will do a small ting here ( hold on..i did win the award for best football journalist in 1993)

So me and Small mag went to the Cup final.... traffic was not too bad... we got there at 5pm..thinking we could watch the second half of the U-17 vz U 20... but looked like that match started a 4 pm..we get shake...so we saw the last half hour...score was 1-1 at the time... and U17 went on to score 2 more...final score 3-1 ( u17)
dont have the scorers...I know some new players on both teams were being looked at and some missing etc... but the standard of play was not very good...some decent individuals.. the Muckette guy... nice player...Marcus Joseph for the 20s..
.i must add...the U17 have some size...equal to the 20s...and of note as well...Sean Cooper(u17 coach)..he sat in the stands watching...but also shouting out instructions all the time...from the stands...strange...
all the tnt coaches etc were in that section as well...Anton, Look Loy, ross russell

so is a whole frigging hour we have to wait for the main match...crowd building up nice...music.....food..drinks...give aways... a door prize of a Free "pass' for all TTFF games for the year...
me and small mag laughing saying that may be just one international match...

so teams do warm ups... Dwarika part of the Staff of NES...

allyuh woulda real like this part... Camps come out to greet the teams ( IT GREEEEETSSSSSSS)...
and ah man in the Stands start to shout " Oh God Capms...retire nah..pleaseeeeeeee..pleaseee ..
the crowd start to laugh..and 2 more join in blasting Camps...
yuh know Camps end up waving to the crowd and smiling and pumping he fists...man...real funny ....
but on a serious note... Camps was being held and ushered by Rudloph Thomas...so either he was drunk or he looks in a poor physical  state... concerned

Teams

North East Stars—Michael Woods, Charles Pollard (capt.), Keryn Navarro, Marc Leslie, Akiel Guevara (Kendall Velox 65th), Anthony Wolfe (Yellow), Sean Fraser, Gary Glasgow (Kaydion Gabriel 88th), Glenton Wolfe, Kevaughn Connell, Jeromie Williams (Errol McFarlane 46th).

Coach—Shurland David.

San Juan Jabloteh—Cleon John (capt.), Christan Thomas (Yellow), Karlon Murray, Anton Hutchinson, Ataullah Guerra, Jason Marcano, Johan Peltier (Yellow) (Elijah Manners 73rd), Mikhil Awai (Jerrel Britto 87th), Kennedy Hinkson, Hector Sam (Marvin Oliver 55th), Jamal Jack.

Coach—Terry Fenwick.

jab line up with a 4-5-1.. Sam as the lone striker.. supported by Johan Peltier on his left...and Hinkson on his right... now i know this name from before (Hinkson)...never really seen him ...i think he is new to Jabloteh,,,, but for me...he was the find of the night...very short fella..like Tinto.. but he strong..smart...real pace...a handfull all night to NES....he scored the only goal very early... all down the right side holding off Connel  and blasting a right footer ....good goal...Peltier pull some good moves...
Hector Sam...if you see how easy this man playing the game...easy easy...he looks much fitter now than 5 months ago when i saw him in the stands at a Jab game... i spoke to him then ( I met him before in Walsall (UK) when my band toured there)...asked him why he was in the stands...he basically said..well he did not get picked...and "say what" kinda thing..but he did not looked bothered...i spoke to Terry recently...and told him Sam looks fit and motivated again...and Terry said he had to get him there in his head again...credit to him for that..but Sam hardly put a foot wrong last night...its glaring the gap between him and the others on the pitch... so for that local/foreign based argument... you could tell the man played the game at a much higher level...and imaging he only played at the UK 3 Division ( correct ?)...was surprised Terry took him off...

Jabloteh bossed the first half...total dominance...with the goal they settled in a rhythm...Tulla Guerra in full flight...and i am a big fan of Tulla..love to watch him play...really wish he could get an extended run on the national team...but i think we all know that he is not the easiest player to manage...
for instance.. i do know that Latas is also a big fan...but he never really used him...so what does that tell us...and credit to Terry again..that he got Guerra still playing football.. you all wont believe some of the things Terry will tell me about Tulla...

but Tulla playing this year in his favorite center mid advance role...and he was pure class...great first touch...quick passes...intellegent passing... great vision...ohhs and ahhhs from the crowd...and sometimes it gets so easy he would start to mess around and make some silly mistakes...for me..he needs to get into the box more often...could turn into a better goal scoring mid.. and he also got a very good right foot shot...for me hands down man of the match

Cleon John did pull off some great saves...but they were few and far between...the papers report make it sound like NES were all over Jab...not in the first half...Glasgow hit a brilliant volley that John saved brilliantly at the end of the half

Mcfarlane on at the start on the 2nd half... jab sits back a bit and trying to counter...which they did with great pace at times...but wasted good chancces...mostly from Macarno and Peltier...
NES fans urging them on...good bunch of fans for them...Glasgow showing his experince...Mac holding up the ball well....and NES went for it right to the end....few more good saves from John to keep the scoreline safe for Jab
and ah forget...The female 4th official..Shane De Silva...Terry take ah tun in she ass  for some ref decision...and she run to the side line to call the ref..Terry dun know is a red card...he he take another tun..off he gone...about the 70th min...
but yuh keep hearing he mouth shouting instructions from somewhere....

final whistle..and Jab in full celbartion...NES gutted...they tried ...made a good game of it.... they lack some quality in midfield....and could be a bit more compact without the ball.....

and me and small mag was checking how much both teams did not use the wing backs to overlap at all....both back 4s just stayed at home...only in the second half did Connell of NES get fwd lots....
so a nice night out...good vibe there...congrats to Jab...and also to NES...should get better for them next season

just some player briefs here

...and Hinkson on his right... now i know this name from before (Hinkson)...never really seen him ...i think he is new to Jabloteh,,,, but for me...he was the find of the night...very short fella..like Tinto.. but he strong..smart...real pace...a handfull all night to NES....he scored the only goal very early... all down the right side holding off Connel  and blasting a right footer ....good goal...

Kennedy Hinkson, ... the suprise package of the night...tallman..any youth caps for this kid ??..any info ??

Hinkson will be 25 later this month, and he used to play for Petrotrin before dey drop out de league. Before that, he played with W-Connection at the U-20 level.

When Jabloteh signed him last March, Fenwick said:
“Kennedy is a great addition to our team, I looked at him many times last season. He was with a very poor Petrotrin side but he never dropped his head. He has a great heart for the game. He looks like a nice solid young man that wants to do well for himself and his team. This would be great for Jabloteh. He also have great agility and the vision for scoring goals.”

Kevaughn Connell, ...looked very uncomfortable at left back...Hinkson reallly gave him a work out...but he did have a good second half

I eh realize he playing wing back now.

Karlon Murray,...defender of the night... strong in the air all night...and dealt with Macfarlane well when he came on... i always like ' Babylon"... Tallman..whats his age and caps like ??..

Karlon Murray will be 26 in March. He bas been in senior team camps under Maturana and Latas, but never got a run. However, he has represented T&T at the U-21 level.

and ralphie was practicing his "sprint starts" on the sideline... full on your marks ,set ,go bizness
I does look forward tuh seeing Ralphie at dem games. Someting about he does make me laugh even when he eh doing nutten. Ah legend in de game  ;D

Jabloteh lift $80,000 FA Trophy.
By Ian Prescott (Express).

Two minutes after the 2010-2011 FA Trophy final kicked off, undersized winger Kennedy Hinkson had San Juan Jabloteh ahead.

North East Stars winger Kevaugn Cornell had barely settled into his role as make-shift left-back for the night, when Hinkson took him on a determined drive up the right flank.

Hinkson cut inside on his marker, and found the far corner with a shot across the dive of Stars goalie Michael Woods.

Then, Hinkson was off to the races to celebrate his early goal with teammates. Jabloteh fans were jumping in the packed stands, and for that moment Jabloteh's English head-coach Terry Fenwick was a happy man--before he was eventually chased from the bench by fourth official Shane De Silva in the second half.

The early goal and a rock solid goal-keeping performance by custodian Cleon John earned Jabloteh the $80,000 FA Trophy top prize, the San Juan team beating North East Stars 1-0 in Friday's final, at a full Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya.

In the opening game, the Trinidad and Tobago National Under-17 team got two second half goals to beat the National Under-20s 3-1.

In the main match, Hinkson might have given Jabloteh a down payment on the FA Trophy, but it was definitely their keeper John who paid off the rest of the bill, by making two timely saves in either half.

John was first called into action in just the sixth minute when he turned wide a free-kick which Stars veteran striker Gary Glasgow had curled from the left edge of the penalty area.

And the Jabloteh keeper earned a bonus on the half hour when denying Glasgow again with a world class save. Once one of the best strikers in T&T, Glasgow might not have produced a sweeter volley in the last ten years than when he met Akeil Guevara's deep cross into the penalty area. "Goal!!" many thought.

Then, "no goal" as John pulled off a spectacular save to keep the ball out of his net. Glasgow had a second bite as the ball rebounded his way, but he could not match his first effort, hitting wide of the target. Glasgow held his head.

Jabloteh were the more enterprising team in the first half. Dribblers Jason Marcano, Ataullah Guerra and young Johan Peltier were prominent, as Jabloteh bossed the midfield. However, they created few clear opportunities for captain Hector Sam, the lone striker.

Nearing the end of the half both teams wasted chances. First, Stars midfielder Jeromie Williams put a chip over the crossbar. Then, at the other end, Marcano hit a "wildman" shot wide from a good position.

Jabloteh obviously aimed to keep what they already had, and began the second half defending with everyone behind the ball, doing most of their attacking on the counter.

In the 53rd minute, Jabloteh turned a defensive position around their penalty area into a quick counter-attack. They outnumbered Stars three to one, but teenager Peltier was school-boyish and dribbled excessively, allowing Stars to recover.

And two minutes later, Peltier broke through on the right but hit a wild shot wide with just keeper Woods to beat.

Stars applied plenty pressure late in the match. But goalie John again came up big for Jabloteh. First, he picked up a hard knock when diving head-first to take a pass off the boot of striker Anthony Wolfe.

"Keep the pressure on. It coming," Stars owner Darryl Mahabir shouted excitedly from the covered stand. And when in added-on time Stars' Jamaican striker Sean Fraser hit a low bullet from the edge of the Jabloteh penalty area, it looked like the equaliser.

But John again showed a safe pair of hands when dropping low to stop the ball cleanly. There was no margin for error, and the keeper made none.

REFEREE: Lee Davis

Hinkson fires Jabloteh to third FA title.
By: Nigel Simon (Guardian).

A second minute strike from speedy Kennedy Hinkson and some superb goalkeeping from Cleon John proved a worthy combination, as bMobile San Juan Jabloteh eked out a 1-0 win over DirecTV North East Stars on Friday in the T&T Football Federation FA Trophy final before a small crowd of about 1,200, mostly Stars’ supporters, at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya.

Speaking after the match Jabloteh coach, Englishman Terry Fenwick, who was red-carded in the 75th minute by referee Lee Davis, said it was a deserved victory by his players.

“We knew we had been playing good football all season long but the results were just not going our way. “All the clubs knew we made it difficult for them in most matches and against Stars we showed great spirit.”

Fenwick added: “We had three one-on-one chances to put the result beyond doubt but did not take them but in the end we managed to keep the 1-0 lead.”

Jabloteh began the match as slight underdogs due to the absence of three regulars starters in national Under-20 player Sheldon Bateau (MLS trials), national Under-23 defender Robert Primus (overseas trial) and the suspended Joel Russell.

On the other hand, Stars’ coach and former Jabloteh and national team defender Shurland David had afull slate of players to choose from and he went in search of adding to his club’s 2003 success.

Jabloteh got the perfect start inside two minutes of the start when Hinkson, formerly of the United Petrotrin, collected a pass on the right and held off the challenge of Stars’ Kevaughn Connell, before hammering a right footed shot past goalkeeper Michael Woods from the edge of the six-yard-box.

Four minutes later, Stars almost drew level when Gary Glasgow tested goalkeeper John from a set-play.

However, the Jabloteh custodian was equal to the task to keep out the goalward effort. John, who was eventually voted “Player of the Match,” was called into action again on the half-hour mark to deny Stars and Glasgow one more time, this time in much more acrobatic style.

The nippy Glasgow latched onto a ball over the top of the Jabloteh back-line and unleashed a powerful volley only to be denied by John to the dismay of the Stars’ supporters.

Jabloteh almost made the Sangre Grande Boys pay for their missed efforts on the stroke of half-time but after being sent through by fellow striker Hector Sam, and with only goalkeeper Woods to beat striker, Jason Marcano dragged his effort wide of the mark.

On the resumption, Stars grabbed the early initiative, as Jabloteh took a more defensive approach.

Despite its change in tactics it was the 1998 and 2005 winners’ Jabloteh which had the first opening of the second-half on the hour mark, when Marcano turned provider and whipped in a left sided centre for Atuallah Guerra, who headed straight to Woods.

From then on, Stars took the match to the San Juan Club, as it went in search of a much needed equaliser. Unfortunately for David’s team, John was in his best form.

Jabloteh was beginning to buckle under the pressure when coach Fenwick was removed from the bench by referee Davis after an exchange of words with fourth official Shane De Silva.

The Jabloteh players, now under the guidance of second choice goalkeeper Brian James on the sidelines, kept their cool on the field, and along with John, held on until the final whistle.

It was not all smooth sailing though as two minutes into time added one John was forced into another important save as he kept out a low blast from Jamaican forward Sean Fraser to preserve his team’s 1-0 lead and with it the $80,000 winners cheque and the prestigious trophy.

John, who rightfully copped the “Player of the Match” award, collected a gift voucher valued at $1,000 plus a trophy courtesy of The Fan Club, Movie Towne.

His team-mate, national Under-20 midfielder, Johan Peltier was named the “One for the Future” and received a $1,500 cash prize and trophy courtesy S2 Events.

Thanks for the reports guys, I couldn't get online for two days to give feedback!  Regarding Kevaughan Connell, he's been playing left back for most of the season, but as mentioned before, he's a converted striker and he would be the first to admit that his defensive game needs work. However, with an overlapping full back, the team must learn to cover his runs and fill in behind him. So, its not just the player that needs to learn this role, its the whole team who need to develop this style of play. It creates a more attacking style with, effectively 7 attacking players (or 6 if you play a DM), but it tales practice and cohesion.

North East supporters were great, and hopefully more atmosphere will be created next season. Well done to Jabloteh.

Just a comment about Terry Fenwick, who usually gets a bad press: Was in the Hyatt saturday evening with Sancho, Connell, Tiger Fitzpatrick & Steve Sealey, and Terry walked over with a tray of champagne for us. Quality! Didn't even know he was there! Sportsmanship is still alive!!

North East Stars soured by FA Final defeat
ttproleague.com

“We were in Jabloteh’s half for the entire second period but as I would say, pressure don’t win matches…goals do!” exclaimed a disappointed DIRECTV North East Stars head coach Shurland David following his team’s 1-0 defeat against San Juan Jabloteh in the Final of the FA Trophy on Friday night at the Marvin Lee Stadium.

Stars conceded in the 2nd minute of play when Jabloteh’s Kennedy Hinkson took on makeshift left-wingback Kevaughn Connell into the area before flashing a shot past goalkeeper Michael Woods and into the far netting.

Stars backed by a very large turnout of supporters and a number of goalscoring opportunities failed to bounce back after conceding early.

“We had opportunities and didn’t bark,” continued David.

“Their keeper(Cleon John) had a great game while we just couldn’t score.

“We are very soured by the defeat. We conceded a very soft goal that cost us the game.

“But all kudos to Jabloteh, they wanted it more than us in the first half.”

North East Stars walked away with the $40,000.00 runners-up prize money while Jabloteh took the Trophy and $80,000.00 winners prize.

David who led the Stars to the Lucozade Sport Goal Shield title last August with a 1-0 win against Jabloteh in the Final said he will pick up the pieces and focus on the upcoming Toyota Classic(in February) and Digicel Pro Bowl(in March) knockouts.
The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.
