Cali won, so you can't argue with the score! But, of course, I feel Central played better. Central were by far the better team and against the run of play, an error gifted Cali a goal, but it was well taken. I felt that in the build up to Calis 2nd goal, their number 9 should have received a second yellow. but the ref ignored it and Cali again scored a well taken goal.
Hard feelings? Well, yes, but that's football!!

I can associate with your feelings, Sam! In the cold light of day, I just have to remember that when the game kicked off one thing was definite....one team would lose! I keep going over the mistakes, the misses, the bad decisions, but thats what makes football exciting. Well done to Cali, we'll have many more encounters in the future. Funny though, I now really feel like Central will win a cup this year, don't know why I suddenly feel this, but I hope I'm right!

Congrats to Cale on their win. This really a fantastic feat. They have played some good ball by Trini standards considering the constraints for local clubs. Is a pity you all not getting some kind of financial rewards. Allyuh just like me. Just enjoy the moment.

To Central, FS and their fans, hard luck. There is always next year. The season eh finish yet. You all could still fight for a champions league spot. But for a first team, you all doing decent so far. God Bless for all those who trying to keep the football spirit alive.

Mitchell found himself on the edge of the 6 yard box all alone with just the keeper to beat. I imagine it was harder to miss than to hit the target, even if it was straight at the keeper! But he sliced the shot and it went wide. That would have been the equaliser and with Central having the most of the play, Central would probably have gone on to win. There may have been worse misses, but given the gravity of the game and the stage in the match, well, Chuckee won't ever forget it!!

F.A. Trophy preliminary round

Central F.C. 5 - 0 Santa Rosa
Quintero 33'
Quintero 38'
Quintero 64'
Quintero 72'
Mitchell  67'

Santa Rosa had a player sent off after 3 mins for abusive language towards the ref. They had a second red card late in second half (2nd yellow).

Quintero also missed a penalty.

Quintero now Central's top scorer with 9, while Winchester has 8

Nice vibe at New Settlement.  :beermug:

 What!!! Quintero by 4.

I have a very biased love for the FA. I had great memories in 76 with Essex. But in my times this competition was as thrilling as the English version. Of Course Regiment-Df used to dominate. But I remember listening on the radio to a final between Regiment and Juniors at  Skinner Park in the 60s. Then Malvern and Point(malvern was my side then).  The craziest FA final was between Boissiere Youths/DF in PSA in 75. How the Youths won that, I don't know. I wished Toyota had sponsored this tournament.

Obviously, losing a player that early damaged Santa Rosa's game plan. They set off very fast, but gradually reduced the pace. Central had 16 corners to SR's 1 and they didn't have one shot on target, so you can see the game was very one sided.

Dam Deeks you could remember good days, well i played in that Boissiere Youths game is a game i'll always talk about, some how i got injured in the first half and had to be taken off,i think that's what threw off everybody,we were such a closely nitted team. One thing i can say though those Bowen brothers were a pain in the butt those guys was cutting wind.

Deeks, while I'm sure you are far more knowledgeable than I concerning football history in T&T, when I wrote the piece about Norris Ferguson, I'm sure that Police won the F.A. trophy in 1975 and I believe they won the Durity Cup in the same year????

Presentation College of San Fernando also qualified to play in a play-off for the round-of-32 against Tunapuna Titans, but the school withdrew earlier as it sought to focus on SSFL and Inter-Col competitions. As a result, Tunapuna advanced for a spot against Central FC. - (Guardian).

That would be to easy for them to do. The SSFL season 'has' been over and they already knocked out of the Inter-Col.

Donkey Logic.

UTT 1 - 2 Central F.C.
              Mitchell, Oliver (pen)

Played at UTT, Sando.

Field was poor, no changing rooms so men changing in car park. No 4th official, no ball boys, no match commissioner, no ambulance or stretcher. Around 30 spectators watching from the building 50 yards away.

Cup football, yes.

Also heard that Jabloteh lost 1-0 to Westside.

Caledonia advances without a sweat; West Side boots Jabloteh
T&T Guardian Reports.

Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA, three-time winners and two-time reigning T&T Football Association FA Trophy champion, became the first qualifiers to the round-of-16 after it was awarded a 3-0 win over Super League’s Club Sando, yesterday.

Both teams were carded to meet for the second time in five days in a round-of-32 encounter at Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva last night, however due to its tight schedule and a number of injury concerns with a small squad of 18 players, the Club Sando management decided to forfeit the match.

The decision was a tough one for Club Sando coach Anthony Streete, the rest of his technical staff and players to make, as only Friday, it outlasted Caledonia AIA, 11-10 on sudden-death penalty-kicks after a 2-2 draw in their Toyota Classic quarterfinal for a spot in Saturday’s semifinal at Couva against reigning Digicel T&T Pro League champion Defence Force from 6 pm.

In early FA matches played yesterday, Super League outfit Westside Superstarz and Secondary Schools Football League North Zone champion St Mary’s College created upsets by beating Pro League’s San Juan Jabloteh and Eastern Counties Football Union’s  D’Marie Hill Reunited, respectively, while Central FC scraped past the University of T&T (UTT).

At the San Juan North Secondary School Ground, Westside got a 50th minute strike from Junior Spencer to dump two-time FA winner Jabloteh while at Serpentine Road, host St Mary’s inspired by a double from Rashad Hyacenth ousted D’Marie Hill 4-2. Down at the Tarouba Link Road, San Fernando, First Citizens Cup winner Central FC, last year’s FA beaten finalist, needed second-half goals from Hector Sam and Marvin Oliver to get past UTT, 2-1.

The Southern Football Association club had taken a second-half lead through former national youth striker Garvin Samaroo after a 0-0 first-half. Also yesterday, the Super League’s Guaya United and Malabar FC as well as Southern Football Association’s Petrotrin Palo Seco all won to reach the last 16 along with Prison FC and Tunapuna Titans, both of the Eastern Football Association.

Guaya United warmed up for its Toyota Classic semifinal against DirecTV W Connection with a 4-2 beating of La Horquetta SA; Malabar slammed Penal All Stars 7-0 and Petrotrin Palo Seco trounced Central Zone SSFL winner Carapichaima East, 5-0 led by a Darren Alexis second-half hat-trick.

Last night, six-time finalists and three-time winners DirecTV W Connection (1999, 2000 and 2002) was scheduled to come up against Cunupia United at Couva while down at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo, six-time winners Defence Force (1974, 1981, 1985, 1989, 1991, 1996) met fellow T&T Pro League club Point Fortin Civic in the match-of-the-round and at Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar, 2003 winner North East Stars, tackled Northern Football Association’s Police in three of the six late matches.

RESULTS

Yesterday

Club Sando 3 vs Caledonia AIA 0 - By Default
