Go Diego Martin! Really even the lowest levels in the UK have a field with a small hut to change in - another sign of a lack of investment during the Warner years

Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA, three-time winners and two-time reigning T&T Football Association FA Trophy champion, became the first qualifiers to the round-of-16 after it was awarded a 3-0 win over Super League’s Club Sando, yesterday.

Ah guess is because it have no money to be won.

So there are no rules in place to blacklist teams who all of a sudden decide to drop out of the tournament for no real reason?

Money or no money they accepted to play in the first place.

Boy, better them than me.

Central F.C. very nearly pulled out of the F.A. Trophy. We wrote to ask about prize money because if there was none, we were not prepared to risk losing in the Toyota, which we played two days later (and, indeed, did lose!) We were originally carded to play the F.A. on Thursday and the Toyota on Friday. We spoke to Pro League who moved our game to Saturday. I now notice that the Toyota semi final has been moved from Friday to Saturday.
There is no thought being put into these competitions. How can you run two cup competitions simultaneously? It dilutes both trophies.

Club Sando obviously want to focus on the Toyota as there is still no word about the F.A. prize money.

FS, you missing my point.

You wrote and asked, some teams just dropping out, Presentation is another one, either that our the dummies drew up the fixtures before informing the teams.

How can you be schedule to play a certain team on a certain date at a certain venue and just decide to pull out, is that fair to the other teams?

It obvious that the venue and fixtures are one of the main reasons people dont go to see these games.

Team schedule to play at the Manny, then a couple hours before the game they get the news that they are play at the Ato.

How can these things be so hard to do and its every year, I dont understand this !!!!!

Is the Pro League solely responsible for this?

Donkey Logic.

This is the F.A. Trophy, so it's TTFA who organise it, while Pro League organise the Toyota Classic.
When you enter these tournaments, you assume that there will be adequate organisation. The draw for the F.A. Trophy took place 4 days before the first fixture, so until that point, you wouldn't know if there was a problem. We even considered asking Hart if we could hold back Winchester and Williams because we had two games in 48 hours.
How can a Pro League club be in the preliminary round? That doesn't happen elsewhere.

I find some big f00cking professional players complaning about playing 3 games a week is crazy, and not all de time that does happen but when they end up playing 3 games that sohuld not affect them because it happens once in a while. What woulda happen if they were playing in de EPL?

On de flip side, all this disorganising shit does kell we football more. I cant believe de NEW !!!  TTFA responsible for this.

You're correct, Sam. But the point is that it's one rule for one team and a different rule for the next. Central have one of the smallest squads so we don't have the depth, in which case, other teams already have an advantage, and that's perfectly fair. But when those teams get three days before games, while we only get two, for no apparent reason, that's not fair. Nor is it fair that we play preliminary round while the others don't.
We could stop complaining, as Coops suggests, and one day we may catch up with the rest of the world, or we could be pains in the *ss and start getting things done properly.

Caledonia gets Pt Fortin last-16 FA test
By Nigel Simon (Guardian).

Neal & Massy Caledonia AIA, three-time winner and two-time reigning T&T Football Association FA holder, will come up against fellow T&T Pro League club, Pt Fortin Civic FC in the round-of-16 carded for Wednesday at a venue to be decided.

This was determined following the draw for the last-16 phase of the tournament at the T&TFA head office at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, yesterday.

In the previous round, Caledonia was handed a 3-0 default win over Super League leader Club Sando while Pt Fortin Civic edged Defence Force, previous winners in 1974, 1981, 1985, 1989, 1991 and 1996, 1-0.

The clash between Caledonia and Pt Fortin Civic will be one of two all-Pro League match-ups after DirecTV W Connection, the winners in 1999, 2000 and 2002, will lock horns with another three-time former winner, Police (1975, 1990, 1994) while last year’s runner-up Central FC was handed what seems an easy task on paper against Secondary Schools Football League North Zone champion, St Mary’s College at St Mary’s Ground, Serpentine Road, St Clair from 3.30 pm.

In some other interesting clashes, Super League duo, Westside Superstarz, which dumped two-time winner San Juan Jabloteh, comes up against Guaya United at St Anthony’s College Ground, Westmoorings, while Northern Football Association pair, Queen’s Park CC and St Francois Nationals, will renew rivalry.

Two other Super Clubs, Defence Force and Malabar FC, will also fancy their chances against Southern Football Association Petrotrin Palo Seco and Prisons of the Eastern Football Association, respectively, while Prisons, also of the EFA awaits the winner of Police (NFA) and 2003 winner, North East Stars encounter.

TTFA FA Trophy gets $100,000 in prize money

TTFA FA Trophy gets $100,000 in prize money
By Lasana Liburd (Wired868.com)

Trinidad and Tobago’s oldest football competition, the FA Trophy, looks set to carry a financial prize again for the first time under new Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) president Raymond Tim Kee.
After an anxious wait for clubs who have already played in two rounds of competition, TTFA general secretary Sheldon Phillips revealed to Wired868 that the local football body has decided upon a $100,000 cash prize for the 2013 competition.
The clubs are expected to be officially informed of the bounty later this week as the TTFA still has to work out the prize structure.
“The prize money we are putting on the table is $100,000,” Phillips told Wired868. “We still just need to work out whether it is a case of winner-take-all or maybe the top four finishers.
“But there will be prize money and the amount we have settled on is $100,000.”
The news is expected to be greeted with relief by local clubs. There has only been one pay-out to the FA Trophy champion in the last four years and, even then, the money never reached the winner, Caledonia AIA, but was diverted to settle a debt instead.
Phillips declined to name the TTFA’s sponsor though.
“At this point in time, we are not ready to name the source,” said Phillips.
The FA Trophy competition continues tomorrow with 16 teams in action at eight venues nationwide; although at least one outfit is unhappy at its proposed venue.
North East Stars coach Angus Eve did not take kindly to the TTFA’s insistence that the Pro League team must face the Tunapuna Titans from 6 pm at Constantine Park in Macoya.
“It is a big open venue and I think it is very dangerous,” said Eve. “There is no way to collect money there or to secure the ground…
“Apart from the playing conditions, what about the safety of my players and the bench if we are winning the game and someone decides to cause trouble?”
The FA Trophy tournament committee chairman Neville Ferguson assured Wired868 that Eve’s concerns were taken on board and the organisers have spoken with the Titans.

Tough test for Caledonia in FA round-of-16.
T&T Guardian Reports.

Six TT Pro League clubs, five third-tier zonal teams, four National Super League outfits, and one Secondary Schools Football League underdog will be in action today, when the T&T Football Association (TTFA) kicks off a full slate of matches in the round-of-16 stage of the FA Trophy competition.

Defending FA Trophy champion, Caledonia AIA, a club which has not experienced its best start to the domestic campaign, will face one of the stiffest tests remaining in the competition in fellow TT Pro League’s second-placed team, Point Fortin Civic Centre, from 3.30 pm.

The Eastern Lions will undoubtably have an even more difficult task on its hands when it faces some of the most enthusiastic supporter in the country on the road to Mahaica Oval, Point Fortin.

The two teams have not met in league competition this season. However, after six matches played each, Point Fortin, the newest addition to the top tier football competition sits fourth with three wins and as many losses, compared to Caledonia, which sits one point behind in fourth with two wins, two draws and two losses.

Caledonia made it into the round-of-16 without kicking a ball due to the withdrawal of NSL outfit, Club Sando, which may rue its decision after the announcement of the sponsored prize moneys of $100,000 up for grabs. Its opponent Civic Centre, however, was made to work its way closer to the title when it dropped another Pro League club, Defence Force, 1-0, in the round-of-32, last week.

Meanwhile, DirecTV W Connection, the only team in the TT Pro League with a 100 percent winning record after five matches, and a finalist in the Toyota (T&T) Classic, meets Pro League’s sixth-placed Police FC.

The two teams met in league action back in September with the Savonnetta Boys edging the Policemen 1-0. On-fire T&T international midfielder Joevin Jones scored the decisive goal five minutes into the second half in that encounter. Both teams eased into the third round with big wins in the round-of-32.

W Connection took a 6-2 victory over Cunupia FC, with former T&T international Silvio Spann on target with a first half brace, while Police secured a one-sided 7-0 win over Golden Lane.

In other interesting match-ups, St Mary’s College, the last remaining team from the SSFL will need to punch above its weight, when it faces Central FC, at home, in St Clair, while Guaya United and Westside Superstarz, two stong attacking NSL teams convene at St Anthony’s College Ground, Westmoorings.

After today’s round of matches, at most four TT Pro League clubs will advance to the quarterfinal round.
The subsequent draw for the quarterfinal round is expected to take place on Friday.

FIXTURES

Today’s FA Trophy Round-of-16

Point Fortin Civic Centre v Caledonia AIA, Mahaica Oval, Point Fortin, 3.30 pm
St Mary’s College v Central FC, St Mary’s Ground, Serpentine Road, 3.30 pm
Petrotrin Palo Seco v Defence Force (NSL), Palo Seco, 6 pm
Tunapuna Titans v North East Stars, Constantine Park, Tunapuna, 6 pm
Westside Superstarz v Guaya United (NSL), St Anthony’s College, 3.30 pm
Police FC (Pro League) v W Connection, Fatima College Ground, Mucurapo, 3.30 pm
QPCC v St Francois Nationals, Dibe Recreation Ground, Long Circular Road, 6 pm
Malabar FC v T&T Prisons FC, Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima, 3.30 pm

I think this year Cali have been going through some problems with players not wanting to train etc etc the normal thing with our players too much big boys, they have been doing too well and may be don't know how to deal with the success they have had,may be they need new management.

Point Fortin whips Eastern Stallions in FA Trophy match; Added-time winner sends Guaya through
By Andrew Gioannetti (Guardian).

Southern fan-favourite Point Fortin Civic Centre cruised into the quarterfinal round of the T&T Football Association (TTFA) FA Trophy competition, last evening, when it upset reigning champion Caledonia AIA, in a 3–0 win at Mahaica Oval, Point Fortin.

Caledonia, which ended with ten men after the 81st minute dismissal of Nuru Muhammad, continued a miserable run this season after recently being booted from the Toyota Classic competition by Super League’s Club Sando.

Muhammad was ejected from the match, when his team was already three goals down, after taking down a goal-bound Andre Toussaint of Point Fortin. Toussaint (66th) was among three different players on target for the winning team. Ancil Wells and Andrei Pacheco bagged the opener and the closing goal, respectively.

With the win, Point Fortin joins fellow TT Pro League outfit W Connection, which edged Police FC 1–0 into the last-eight stage. Central FC, which eased past the last remaining Secondary Schools Football League outfit, St Mary’s College, 5–0, also booked a place in the next round.

The three National Super League teams in action in the earlier matches also lit up the round, with Malabar taking a one-sided 5–1 win over T&T Prisons, while Guaya United scored in practically the last minute of the match through standout midfielder Leston Paul, who smashed home a right sided low cross from Kendes Garcia, at the edge of the six-yard box, in time added on.

Guaya almost shot itself in the foot after seeing a 2–0 half-time lead at St Anthony’s College Ground, Westmoorings, overturned by host Westside. Past St Anthony’s College players Travis Joseph and Jamali Garcia responded for Westside in the second half after Kheelon Mitchell and Kendes Garcia gave Guaya a first half advantage.

In Malabar’s win, it was the Hayden Tinto show once again, as the former T&T international netted twice in the first half to initiate the onslaught. Calvin Sheppard, another regular name on Malabar’s scoresheet also netted a brace, while Gorian “Ratty” Highley slotted home a penalty.

Prisons’ only goal came from Ricardo Alleyne on the hour-mark, before ending the match with ten men with Andre Mohammed 90th minute dismissal for two yellow cards. In the late matches yesterday, Petrotrin Palo Seco was to face Defence Force (NSL), Tunapuna Titans played North East Stars and QPCC met St Francois Nationals.

RELATED NEWS

High five Central beat CIC 5-0.
By Ian Prescott (Express).

The men were clearly separated from the boys.

St Mary’s College, North Zone champions and one of the top teams in the 2013 Secondary Schools Football league, were no match for Pro League side Central FC, when the teams met yesterday in a Trinidad and Tobago FA Trophy round of 16 match.

The “Saints” had home advantage, but little else, as they succumbed 5-0 to their older and more football-savvy opponents. Still, there were good signs for the future, in the skill of Rashad Hyacenth and the assuredness of CIC goalkeeper Christian Attong, who kept his team from total embarrassment with several key saves.

But yesterday was about “The Sharks,” mainly Rundell Winchester’ with his speed and decisive finishing, and also stifling defence, the trademark of former England defender Terry Fenwick, now Central FC coach. St Mary’s battled to stay in the match, and were only down 3-0 at half time, due mainly to defending in huge numbers, and good work from the goalkeeper. Much of the first period was spent blocking shots from Central FC. At the other end, CIC striker Chinua Bernard struggled to find a second’s peace with the ball, as Akeem Benjamin stuck to him like rain-soaked clothes.

Not much older than some of the schoolboys, 19-year-old T&T international Winchester stamped his class on the first half with a pair of goals in the 17th & 34th minutes. Keon Trim added a third in the 44th with a low shot to the near corner, and before the first half ended, midfielder Jason Marcano, who engineered most of the forward play, won and horribly missed a penalty, while Dwight Quintero put the ball into the net but had a goal ruled offside.

Winchester emphatically opened the scoring, hitting with power and curling to the far corner, and speed got him a second goal ,as he outran the defenders by such distance, that he had time to look up and stoke the ball wide inside the far post. In the second half, Darren Mitchell came on and hit low to the far post for a fourth goal, while Hector Sam made it 5-0 via a deflected free-kick off the defensive wall.

Fenwick did not exactly use his A-team, resting keeper Jan Michael Williams and regular midfielder Johan Peltier and Darren “Chucky” Mitchell. But the Englishman wasn’t generous either, playing the experienced Sam and Marvin Oliver, Jason Marcano, Elton John who have all worn T&T colours at some level.

For a while, St Mary’s defenders won lusty cheers when putting in some last-gasp tackles to foil Central.

Hyacenth also twice almost scored on nervous Sharks keeper Javon Sample. And Hyacenth even got a round of applause when he put in a disallowed goal . However, the best moment of the second half came when Central midfielder Marcus Mottley froze the CIC keeper with a superb volley in the 47th minute.

In all, it was probably a good lesson learned for the schoolboys. Some, especially the defenders, may now feel they have what it takes, while others now know they have more work to do if they intend to pursue Pro League careers.

Yes, that is the same Leston. Now, Leston may not be on par with Latas and the rest, but he has options. he has degree. Maybe he is working down there and playing footie at the side.
