Trinidad and Tobago U-20 forward Jaydon Prowell has joined his captain, John-Paul Rochford, at the Portland Timbers U18/19 Academy team for the remainder of the 2018/19 season.

https://sports.yahoo.com/why-norway-didnt-stop-attacking-in-a-120-thrashing-of-honduras-in-the-u-20-world-cup-211806081.html

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k13EltDN5cU&feature=onebox

Norway clobbered Honduras 12-0 in U20 World Cup. It appears that with the exception of the US, the rest of Concacaf did not make the 2nd rounds or are unlikely to make the 2nd rounds. But Panama still has a chance today against Saudi. Honduras had two players sent off.

Norway forward Erling Braut Haland set an Under-20 World Cup record with nine goals in the country’s 12-0 win over Honduras on Thursday in Poland.

Haland, who plays club soccer for RB Salzburg, scored four times before halftime and five times in the second half as the Norwegians didn’t stop attacking against Honduras. Haland’s effort broke the previous record for goals in a game by a single player by three.

You’re probably thinking Norway showed poor sportsmanship in running up the score against a clearly overmatched opponent. But they had to do so to move on.

Norway needed to worry about goal difference
The U20 World Cup consists of 24 teams divided among six groups and 16 of them make the knockout stages. With the top two countries from each group moving on, that leaves four third-place teams to make it through to the final rounds.

Norway, in Group C, lost its first game 3-1 to Uruguay on May 24 and lost its second game to New Zealand 2-0 on May 27. Honduras, meanwhile, lost to New Zealand 5-0 and 2-0 to Uruguay. The winner of their game Thursday, at best, would advance as the last third-place team.

Hence why Norway kept scoring. Before the game kicked off, three teams were already in third place with four points. Norway not only needed to get three points, but it needed to flip its goal difference — the first tiebreaker — to a lopsided number that no one could match and hope for the best from games on Friday.

Norway still not in the knockout round
After the win, Norway’s goal difference sits at a mighty +8 and its 13 goals over three games are the most of any third-place team. But there’s no guarantee the Norwegians will advance as the last team in the knockout round.

Argentina leads Group F with six points while Group F teams Portugal and South Korea currently sit tied with the Norwegians at 3 points. Meanwhile, Group E member Panama has one point. All of those teams play tomorrow. And a lot has to go right for Norway.

Norway only advances if Portugal and South Korea both lose and Panama loses or ties. A win for Panama vaults the Panamanians over Norway while any combination of wins or ties for Portugal and South Korea also eliminates the Norwegians. The running up of the score could very well end up for naught.

Nine overseas players arrive for U-20 training.
TTFA Media.

Nine North American-based players will arrive in the country on Sunday to join the current Men’s Under 20 pool for a week of training under head coach Derek King.

The players were invited based on recommendation from the TTFA’s Talent Identification Programme (TIPP) in North America. One of the players, Isa Sayeed was a member of the previous National Under 17 Men’s team.

The other players arriving are Saheim Quamina, Keoma Mohammed, Richard Wilson, Samory Powder, Liam Lambert, Liam Collens, Keirol Aaron and Mateo Elliot.

King said he will assess the players during the period.

“This is a good opportunity for us to see what the players are capable of and what they can bring to the current pool. Like I said before, the door is open to any player of worth and quality who can be of a valuable additional to the national team of Trinidad and Tobago. Thanks to the support provided by the TIPP staff in North America for providing the information and being able to assist with recommending these players,” King told TTFA Media.

TTFA Technical Committee chairman Keith Look Loy added, “The integration of these players is more evidence of the very useful work being conducted by our North America Programme. We have identified another nine players to place on trial. I expect these players to bring serious added value to this team”.

Tiger Tanks to invest $1.5M in U-20 football tourney.
By Walter Alibey (T&T Guardian).

A $1.5-million-dollar Tiger Tanks-sponsored Under-20 Football Tournament is set to kick off in February next year and is expected to be used in the future for the preparation of national teams.

Dennis Latiff, Tiger Tanks' general manager revealed his plans on Tuesday but he made it clear that play will be subjected to the government's return-to-play orders regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. Latiff, an emerging sporting pride in the southland, said the tournament will be held for one month among 14 selected teams, 10 from Trinidad and the other four from the sister isle of Tobago, with the winner due to cash in on a $20, 000 first prize cheque and $10, 000 for the runner-up.

Latiff told Guardian Media Sports on Tuesday that the prize structure could change before the start of the tournament, as the quantity of potential sponsors increases. However, if all goes well with the tournament it will lead to a resulting Under-20 League to be held at a time to be decided, Latiff said.

Latiff's $1.5 million output will include monies for prizes, investment to have live matches and other games on television, payment of two uniforms each (home and away) for every team, insurance for all players, payment of officials (referees, linesmen, commissioners), sponsorship for a social media platform, sponsorship for marketing of the tournament, and a $1,500 incentive for the best defender, best midfielder, best forward, best coach, most goals and man of the match.

He said, invitations were sent to 24 teams from both the T&T Pro League and the T&T Super League, but FC Santa Rosa, a Super League contender has refused to accept, while three other teams La Horquetta Rangers, Cunupia FC and Point Fortin Civic FC are undecided about their participation.

"In the first instance, it is going to be a tournament and after we see how that takes off then it may turn into a league. It will be like the 10 teams here. The Tobago teams will play each other twice in a round-robin play-off, but in Trinidad, we're not too sure because we're looking at the times and so on, that we will get for the stadia, but most likely, it would be each one play one another over here. We haven't gotten permission as yet, everything is being planned and whenever the government says that we're able to play football, whatever guidelines that they have in place, we will put in place. So it's just preparation for when football opens. When that happens we will have everything there and ready to go. The only thing that will be put in place then will be the guidelines for COVID-19," Latiff explained.

He continued. "I want to help with this league to prepare national teams. I am not saying we're only picking national people from it, but I want to use this to prepare national teams. A lot more will come pretty soon with this league, we should be laying out things by Friday (November 19) of this week. It was supposed to be last Friday but there was a little setback, some people got sick and so on and I had to wait on them to finish something that they didn't finish."

He gave the assurance that all teams, coaches, officials, spectators and everyone who would be involved in the tournament will be required to be fully vaccinated in accordance with government's 'vaccinate to operate' mandate.

On November 5, the Minister of Health Terrance Deyalsingh blanked a proposal by the Ascension Football Tournament of T&T to have a League played in an all-vaccinated environment. That League was scheduled to incorporate teams from both the T&T Super League and T&T Pro League etc and was expected to be guided by some 30 rules and regulations to guard against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Once again there is no mention of Tobago.....so are 30 or 40 young men supposed to find their way to Trinidad.....during this time of a pandemic..... find somewhere to stay, pay for meals, transport etc. in order to have a look in ???
I have been saying this all the time....it cost less for one or two coaches to travel to Tobago for one day.....they don't even have to spend the night....back home no later then a 9 pm flight and can drive home and sleep in their bed.
As usual they will only look at Tobago players months after a team is in training and players have already started developing. Then you bring in Tobago players who have never trained with the team...or under the coaches and you expect then to do what exactly ???

And what is even more disrespectful is that a coach stop me on the road last night asking for my son to train with him because he was contacted by lord alone knows who....to train u20 players in Tobago. So no formal announcement....just word of mouth....hand picking of players.
This $H!+ has to stop. This makes me understand more and more why Tobago voted for the PDP. (Not me eh ;D)

Eve hands full with U-20, senior teams
« Reply #322 on: December 12, 2021, 08:54:44 PM »
Eve hands full with U-20, senior teams
By Walter Alibey (T&T Guardian)

National senior men's football coach Angus Eve will have his hands full over the coming months, having been tasked with the responsibility of preparing both the country's Under-20 and senior men's teams.

Screening sessions for the U-20s began on Saturday at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Balmain, Couva, and from some 400 registered players, Eve worked with only 100, having to adhere to the COVID-19 protocol and ensure safety.

Technical director Dion La Foucade has been working alongside Eve and his staff to assess and select players ahead of the CONCACAF Qualifiers, mid-next year.

Because of the need to follow the COVID-19 protocol, Eve and his staff have had to conduct their sessions in alphabetical order, on Saturday working with players with surnames that begin with A, B, C and D. And on December 18, he will work with players with last names beginning with E to K from 8 am.
Screening sessions will continue on December 21 for players with surnames beginning with L to W from 9 am at the Couva venue. But the question is whether Eve will be able to handle the workload, with the national senior team training expected to resume in January.

Training for the senior team was stopped more than a month ago for two main reasons, one is the unavailability of contracts to staff members which is in the process of being sorted out, Guardian Media Sports has been reliably informed, and the other is because the FIFA-appointed Normalisation Committee which is managing the T&T Football Association (TTFA) is strategically planning a programme for football for next year, according to Amiel Mohammed, TTFA's general secretary.

Mohammed said: "It's more sitting down and analysing the strategic plan ahead, especially from a financial point of view. And then once we know we've come out with something, then if it's sustainable over a period of time, rather throughout 2022.

"We know that the TTFA recently activated the bankruptcy and insolvency process and then at the same time we've been doing a review of how things look for 2022. It's projected to be a very busy calendar."

Eve, on Saturday did not answer his cell phone, but La Foucade said the coach, considered one of the better youth coaches in the country, will have to manage his time wisely to cope with both teams.

Guardian Media Sports has been told that a number of international friendly matches have been planned for the senior team next year, as the team prepares for the CONCACAF Nations League.

With the U-20s, Eve is also scheduled to have a session for players returning home from abroad for the Christmas holidays on December 27, and will also have to work with players from the sister isle of Tobago at a date to be determined.

Eve is also set to leave local shores, either at the end of February or early March next year, to conduct a series of overseas screenings for international players.

Eve scouts foreign-based players for men's Under-20 squad
By Jelani Beckles (T&T Newsday)

TRINIDAD AND Tobago Under-20 men’s football coach Angus Eve is scouting players from overseas in an effort to field a competitive team as preparations begin for the qualifying phase of 2023 FIFA Men’s Under-20 World Cup in Indonesia.

The T&T Football Association recently started having screening sessions for players eager to represent their country.

Eve, speaking to the media during a session at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva on Saturday, said, “Things are going smooth so far. I think the staff and the (TTFA) have done a tremendous job to organise this.”

Players based overseas will be included, Eve said.

“The plan is simply that we do the screening until the end of February. That will encompass the foreign-based players who have parentage (in T&T)…we have some boys in Germany, we have a goalkeeper in Norwich City in England, we have a couple of them in some of the MLS (Major League Soccer) teams, some of the USL (United Soccer League) teams. They will have a different level of play and fitness. They will come a bit closer to the end (of the screening).”

In January, trials will be held for footballers in Tobago.

Eve is satisfied with the response from the players.

“Tremendous (response), you saw the enthusiasm of the kids. They want to play, they want to show themselves. It is their national team and they are showing that they want to be a part of it. Also you see the parents coming out with the kids because they want an opportunity to represent their country and that is the most noble thing anybody could do.”

Asked what he thought of the standard of play, Eve said, “It is very difficult to judge the kids on the levels after they have not played for two years…I just want to comment on the enthusiasm that they brought, the willingness to try to apply what we asking them to do because we could build the levels.”

T&T is one of the region’s 16 top-ranked men’s Under-20 teams who have received a bye to the 2022 CONCACAF Final Championship which will be played in the summer of 2022.

At the conclusion of the championship, the finalists will qualify for the FIFA Men’s Under-20 World Cup Indonesia 2023 and 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games. The two losing semifinalists will also guarantee their participation in the FIFA Men’s Under-20 World Cup.

Marc Israel, a central defender, is competing in the screening sessions.

He is elated to be playing again. “I think it is a great opportunity. A lot of players here have been just home and not a lot of players have had the opportunity to play. I think it is an incredible opportunity that everybody has been waiting on. We really grateful and thankful to be able to come out here today.
