Haiti U20 is out of the tournament. No local league this year.

And it took the FHF, how long to come to that realization? Why an announcement now?

They were probably waiting for a possible payday. The FHF and some other associations rely on gov’s money and participation fees from CONCACAF. That’s how officials usually get paid and enjoy perks such as free travel and hotels etc. My guess is that they eventually failed to get funding from the government because of the poor showing of the U20 women’s team due to lack of preparation. There has been no official football competitions in Haiti since last year and the academy where youth teams usually train has been closed.

T&T U-20 men to face Costa Rica in two training matches.
TTFA Media.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Men U-20 squad arrived in San Jose, Costa Rica on Tuesday afternoon after departing Port of Spain earlier today for a ten-day training camp ahead of the CONCACAF Men’s U-20 Championship in Honduras.

Leading the team is assistant coach Reynold Carrington in the absence of head coach Angus Eve who is presently on duty with the Men’s Senior Team. Eve will join the contingent on June 14th in San Jose following T&T’s Concacaf Nations League match against St Vincent/Grenadines in Port of Spain next month.

Major Basil Thompson is the team manager. Senior team midfielder Molik Khan will also join the squad in San Jose on June 14th. Tarik Lee, Christian Bailey and Tristan Edwards all sat CXC Exams today and will travel to San Jose tomorrow with an accompanying staff member while Austria-based defender Noah Roka will join the team on Wednesday after his exams.

While in San Jose, T&T will play two training matches against Costa Rica’s Men’s U-20 team on June 8th at 10am and June 11th also at 10am.

T&T opens Group F against Haiti on June 19th at the Estadio Morazan in San Pedro Sula and will face Mexico on June 21st and Suriname on June 23 at the same venue.

The top three teams in the group advances to the round of 16, where they will be joined by the four teams advancing from the 2021 CONCACAF U-20 Championship qualifying.Unlike the previous editions, the competition will determine not only the four CONCACAF representatives at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia, but also the two CONCACAF representatives at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

The 18-players who travelled today – Kaihim Thomas, Isaiah Thompson, Andrew De Gannes, Tyrik Trotman, Jaheim Faustin, Curtis Del Leon, Jaheim Wickham, Rushon Sandy, Josiah Wilson, Jaron Pascall, Real Gill,Nathaniel James, Josiah Cooper, Luke Phillip, Isaiah Edwards, Marvin Waldrop,Jaheim Joseph, Kassidy Davidson.

There has been no official football competitions in Haiti since last year and the academy where youth teams usually train has been closed.

Haiti’s governing body, is under the control of a Fifa-appointed normalisation committee. Thus far, Concacaf has not officially acknowledged Haiti’s withdrawal or suggested how it might affect the Under-20 competition, which kicks off in two weeks.

Should Haiti’s decision stand, Concacaf has two likely responses. The first would be to simply forfeit all of the fixtures for the French-speaking islanders. However, that creates a bizarre scenario in which all three Group F teams qualify for the next round.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

T&T U20s draw with Costa Rica.
TTFA Media.

Trinidad and Tobago's U-20 Men drew 0-0 with hosts Costa Rica U-20s in the first of two training matches today. Both teams are preparing for the 2022 Concacaf Men's U-20 Championship in Honduras.

The match was played at the Complejo Deportivo Fedefútbol Plycem.

"All in all a good exercise for us. It was important to get this sort of match practice against a team like Costa Rica before heading into the tournament. We used the match to look at a few things and to observe how the players would adjust to the conditions and the intensity. I thought they coped quite well and we'll see how things go again in the second match," Assistant coach Reynold Carrington said.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

They are losing to who ?

His club, Tenerife, lost to Cartagena. On paper they should have won, but they were also playing without key starting personnel. Having lost, they are going to be playing in a Canary Islands playoff derby v. Las Palmas in a few days.

Tenerife won the derby. Shaq played. The victory has them facing Girona in a home and away to determine which team secures promotion to LL1. Tickets for the match on Tenerife are SOLD OUT.

It's the 5th year in a row that the promotion playoffs final is a battle between teams that finished 5th and 6th in the league.

I was hoping Eibar could do it (they were 3rd on the table but disintegrated before and during the playoffs).

Eve settles on Under-20 final team
T&T Guardian Reports.

Less than 24 hours after head coach Angus Eve named his squad for the Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship in Honduras next week, the team was beaten 2-1 in its second warm-up match against Costa Rica in Costa Rica on Saturday.

T&T’s lone goal was scored by Jaheim Faustin, who was not named in the final squad along with Curtis Del Leon and Tristan Edwards.

The team is expected to be led by Molik Khan, the experienced midfielder who is currently campaigning with the senior Soca Warriors in the Concacaf Nations League Group B.

T&T will open its Group F campaign against Haiti on June 19th at the Estadio Morazan in San Pedro Sula and will face Mexico on June 21st and Suriname on June 23 at the same venue.

The top three teams in the group will advance to the round of 16, where they will be joined by the four teams advancing from the 2021 Concacaf U-20 Championship qualifying. Unlike the previous editions, the competition will determine not only the four Concacaf representatives at the 2023 Fifa U-20 World Cup in Indonesia but also the two Concacaf representatives at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

The T&T team, under the supervision of assistant coach Reynold Carrington, battled to a goalless draw with the Central Americans in their first meeting on Wednesday. Following the match, the team was boosted with the likes of forward Tarik Lee, defender Christian Bailey and Tristan Edwards all of whom missed the first match because of the CXC Exams.

Austria-based defender Noah Roka also joined the team on the day of the match after his exams.

Head coach Angus Eve, who is presently on duty with the senior T&T men’s team and senior team midfielder Khan will join the contingent on Tuesday in San Jose, Costa Rica following T&T’s Concacaf Nations League match against St Vincent and the Grenadines Monday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.

This match will conclude the ten-day training camp ahead of the Under-20 Championship in Honduras.

The Soca Warriors have always been competitive at the Concacaf U-20 level and also have two third-place finishes (1974, 1986) to their name while they have also qualified for two U-20 World Cups (1991 in Portugal and 2009in Egypt).

Overall, the Caribbean side boasts a 24W-22D-36L record, with 104 goals scored and 140 conceded. Isaiah Lee (4) and Jabari Mitchell (3) are T&T’s all-time top scorers in the competition.

The quartet of Cuba, Canada, USA and St Kitts and Nevis are in Group E; El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama and Aruba are in Group G, and Costa Rica, Jamaica, Antigua & Barbuda and host Honduras comprise Group H.

At the end of the group stage round-robin action, the top three teams in the group will advance to the Round-of-16 where they will join already qualified Curacao, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic who all qualified directly as winners of their respective groups in the Concacaf Men’s U-20 Championship Qualifiers held last November in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The 16-team Knockout Stage will begin with the round-of-16 (June 25-26), followed by the quarterfinals (June 28-29), semifinals (July 1), and final (July 3).

Unlike the previous editions, the competition will determine not only the four Concacaf representatives at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia but also the two Concacaf representatives at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.

Under-20s to consider third friendly in Costa Rica.
By Walter Alibey (T&T Guardian).

T&T Under-20 footballers started training on Tuesday under the guidance of national coach Angus Eve.

T&T’s Under-20 footballers will continue preparations in a live-in camp in Costa Rica until June 16 before leaving a day later for the CONCACAF Under-20 Championships in Honduras.

Stand-in coach Reynold Carrington has had two friendly matches against the home team over the past week, which they drew 0-0 in the first and lost 2-1 in the other. Head coach Angus Eve who is with the T&T’s senior men’s team, had said a third matches against a team of repute would have been considered.

On Monday, Amiel Mohammed, the T&T Football Association’s general secretary said a third game would depend on whether coach Carrington sees the need to give his troops another run out.

That third match, Mohammed said, is expected to be against a club team there. “That decision for a third match will depend on Carrington or Eve, if they feel the under 20 players need more match practice. In the Meanwhile, the team will continue their training in Costa Rica until it’s time to leave for the tournament,” Mohammed said.

The under-20s will contest Group F action alongside CONCACAF powerhouse Mexico, Haiti and Suriname. The top three teams in the group will advance to the round of 16, where they will be joined by the four teams advancing from the 2021 CONCACAF U-20 Championship qualifying.

The U-20s will begin their campaign against Haiti on June 19 at the Estadio Francisco Morazan in San Pedro Sula before facing the Mexicans on June 21 at the same venue. They complete their campaign against Suriname on June 23.

Marvin Waldrop: U20s ready to battle at Concacaf Champs
By Jelani Beckles (T&T Newday).

TRINIDAD and Tobago Under-20 defender Marvin Waldrop said the team is prepared to battle for their country at the Concacaf Under-20 Men’s Championships in Honduras.

T&T are in Group F alongside Mexico, Haiti and Suriname. T&T will open their campaign against Haiti on Sunday from 6 pm.

T&T will leave San Jose, Costa Rica on Friday morning following a training camp.

Defender Waldrop, speaking about the camaraderie in the camp, said, “Really a great group of fellas. (It is an) amazing experience playing against such great teams. We have everything - we have good pitches, we have good gyms, we have good trainers. It is just for us to deliver and work hard together.”

Waldrop said the players are ready to give their all.

“The boys willing to give their blood, sweat and tears for the country. We determined, we have the grit and we hoping to make everybody at home proud.”

Midfielder Josiah Wilson said, “Playing under coach Angus (Eve) and working with him is a great feeling because he is such a good coach and he motivates us to do better every training session.”

He said the camp in Costa Rica was rewarding. “I would describe this training camp in Costa Rica as tough because we are all working towards the first game and it is a very competitive team and we all have to work hard to earn a spot on the team.”

Wilson is anticipating the challenge of playing in the tournament. The top four teams in the 20-team tournament will qualify for the 2023 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Indonesia. The finalists will also earn a spot at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

They were givng the Hondos as much as they got. Hondos scored on a corner kick. But AB players are well coached team. Let's see their next game.

AG is no joke. I was impressed with their discipline despite the loss. I won’t be surprise if they upset either Haiti or Trinidad, especially Haiti which is only taking part in the competition because CONCACAF won’t allow them to withdraw.

Cuba has an impressive U20 team that will probably become a force in CFU in the next few years IF they don’t flee the island.

U-20 Warriors start Concacaf quest...seek third U-20 World Cup spot
By Nigel Simon (T&T Guardian)

This country’s Under-20 men’s football teams will be keen on a positive start when they meet Haiti in their Group F opener of the Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship at the Francisco Morazan Stadium, San Pedro Sula, Honduras on Sunday from 6 pm (TT time).

The second match in the group will feature Mexico and Suriname from 10.30 pm at the same venue.

Today's meeting between the Angus Eve-coached U-20 Soca Warriors and Haiti will be their first-ever meeting with the former hoping to qualify for a third FIFA Men’s U-20 World Cup, after qualification to the 1991 Finals in Portugal and 2009 in Egypt, while Haiti is trying to qualify for their first.

On Friday evening, Eve and his squad arrived in Honduras following a ten-day camp in Costa Rica where they played two friendly encounters against that country's U-20 team, a 0-0 draw and a 2-0 loss which was followed by a third friendly against a local club team Sporting FC, which ended in a 2-0 defeat as well at the Complejo Deportivo Fedefútbol Plycem.

During the first two matches against the Costa Ricans, the local U-20s were under the supervision of assistant coach Reynold Carrington while coach Eve and captain Molik Khan missed the match due to senior national team commitments, and the trio of Tarik Lee, Christian Bailey, and Tristan Edwards also missed the first match due to CXC Exams along with Austria-based defender Noah Roka, who only joined the team on the morning of the match after his exams as well.

However, speaking on arrival in Honduras as his team get set to make their 21st appearance in the competition said things have been hectic with problems arising with their Copa Airlines flight with the players being in the airport for several hours.

He said, "It's no fault of anybody here (Honduras) but we had a problem on the Copa Airlines flight so we had the guys in the airport for like five hours. As again it's no fault of anybody here as the Copa flight we had to connect with had a medical emergency and it never reached in until about two and a half hours after the time that it was supposed to reach.

"But at the end of the day, we are here and everybody is safe and we just have one guy with a niggling injury but other than that we are in good spirits."

The T&T team which arrived in Honduras was minus defender Jaron Pascall who remained in Costa Rica in order to sit his CXC Examination and was expected to join the team yesterday ahead of the match and coach Eve credited the local federation for putting the players' education first while admitting to having to adjust his sessions to suit.

Eve said, "The TTFA has to be given a lot of credit in having an invigilator with the team and the boys are doing all of their exams out here so it's a little bit difficult and we have to schedule training around that because unlike some other teams here who have professional players, we have schoolboys, so credit to the TTFA for organising for them to get their exams done."

Goalkeeper Tristan Edwards was also drafted into the final team to replace Rushon Sandy in the final squad and Eve noted this change was due to illness.

"He (Sandy) was omitted after showing COVID-19-like symptoms which were very strong and forced him to miss training for three to four days and we went through all the normal protocols and got Concacaf to confirm the change to the team."

Looking ahead to the team's opening game coming on the back of a ten-day camp in Costa Rica, Eve said he thinks the team is ready.

"The camp was very fruitful and we had two really good games against Costa Rica U-20s and again a number of the Costa Rica guys are playing with their senior team and have played senior team football, we just had Molik Khan and in our contingency, we just have one professional player which is Molik Khan and a couple of other guys who play locally for clubs.

"But in the main, its college kids that we have here, and I've been very happy with their application and attitude towards the work. The one area that we are lacking, to be honest, is experience, ended Eve, who was a member of the T&T team at the U-20 World Cup in 1991 in Portugal."

Skipper Khan, a member of US Major League Soccer's Minnesota United, said the last few days has shown the team that they are an ambitious group and once they gel together they can do good things and this is a group that is very confident and it's a group of young men that have a point to prove.

Skipper Khan said, "I feel good and everyone feels good in the camp and its just a positive vibes and we all feel confident that we can come out with the results needed.

"Coach (Eve) obviously have us in the right frame of mind for competition mood and everyone I think understand the task at hand and I think we are here to compete and stay and go all the way.

"It's a bunch of youths looking for an opportunity and this is the right place and the right group to do that."

Looking ahead to the match against the Haitians, Khan said the key for his team will be mainly to focus.

"We just have to keep focus and do what we have to do and prepare our minds and that's basically the key for us and the people back home can expect results and full commitment from us."

Haiti will be making their 10th tournament appearance but the Les Grenadiers as they are known have never qualified for a U-20 World Cup. The Haitians finished fifth in both the 2003 and 2007 tournaments and overall possesses a record of 8W-5D-18L with 42 goals scored and 61 conceded.

Following today's match, T&T tournament runners-up in 1990 meet 13-time champions Mexico, on Tuesday from 10.30 pm (TT time), before ending round-robin pool play versus Suriname on Thursday at the same venue from 6 pm.

The Soca Warriors have always been competitive at the Concacaf U-20 level and also have two third-place finishes (1974, 1986) to their name.

Overall, the Caribbean side boasts a 24W-22D-36L record, with 104 goals scored and 140 conceded. Isaiah Lee (4) and Jabari Mitchell (3) are T&T’s all-time top scorers in the competition.

The quartet of Cuba, Canada, USA, and St Kitts and Nevis are in Group E; El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, and Aruba are in Group G, and Costa Rica, Jamaica, Antigua & Barbuda and host Honduras comprise Group H.

At the end of the group stage round-robin play the top three teams in the group will advance to the round-of-16 where they will join already qualified Curacao, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic who all qualified directly as winners of their respective groups in the Concacaf Men’s U-20 Championship Qualifiers held last November in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

T&T U-20 men’s squad:

Kaihim Thomas, Isaiah Thompson, Andrew De Gannes, Tyrik Trotman, Jaheim Wickham, Josiah Wilson, Jaron Pascall, Real Gill, Nathaniel James, Josiah Cooper, Luke Phillip, Marvin Waldrop, Jaheim Joseph, Kassidy Davidson, Tarik Lee, Christian Bailey, Tristan Edwards, Noah Roka.

The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.

Leg 2, 0-0 on aggregate. Winner takes the spoils. Girona is having the attacking sequences; Tenerife are defending stoutly. Shaq Moore is focused and his team is applying their bread and butter defense. They've engaged in a bit of rough play and already Girona has been forced to make a substitution through injury. If there's a red card in this match, Tenerife have submitted their candidates.

Shaq is adding to his "highlight reel". Glorious opportunity x Tenerife from a questioning Shaq Moore delivery. It would have been a goal to send the home crowd into ecstasy.

Scoreless with 13' left in first half regulation. Competitive football in June. The final ticket to La Liga.

EDIT: Tenerife trail 1-0 through a penalty conceded late in the first half. Girona - playing in their 3rd consecutive playoff final - are ahead through Cristhian Stuani, the club's captain, legend and all-time goal scorer. At 35, Stuani still has 4 years left on his contract.

1-1 :wavetowel: GAME ON!

2-1 Girona up. Tenerife own goal ... about 15 left in regulation. If our U20s played a warm-up against a Tenerife in this mindset, they would be real ready for Haiti. This is a leave-everything-on-the-field match.

3-1. Girona. Simply superior as the match has aged.
