The lack of preparation time meant, according to the Under-20 coach, that late bloomers like St Augustine Secondary forward Kesean St Rose, who leads the SSFL Premier Division with goals, and San Juan North Secondary midfielder Elair Brewster were unable to get a look in.

“I had to stick to the players that I worked with before because I know I can get them to play in a particular way,” said Latapy. “With less than a week, we have no time to do defensive and offensive organisation [in training]. So I have to go with the players I know.”

https://wired868.com/2018/10/25/latapy-well-do-our-best-benny-recalled-as-u-20-coach-gets-24-hours-to-select-tt-squad/

Life-altering decisions.

Ah get it from a structured viewpoint, but we done in ah unstructured operating environment going into this tournament and there's no doubt the U-20 squad needs/needed to be refreshed with a few new faces based on our observations of them when last they faced the whistle.

If the ambitions and expectations of the squad are modest, why not give the horses that are running well, on all surfaces, the race entries and have the jockeys adjust to suit?

Instead, we're choosing the horses according to how supposedly disciplined or faithful they can be to the way the jockey wants to ride the unseen course?

Really? What's there to lose by letting the good money horses run? Our prestige won't be taking a hit; it's already tarnished. Our pride won't be hurt; it's already bruised. Our prospects won't be further diminished; they were devalued long ago by TTFA administrative failures.

As a general proposition, shouldn't we be favoring player-centered decisions rather than coach-centered decisions?
Then why the shop window talk?

Good players will adapt not conform.  This coach, better than most, would/should know that.

Final U-20 Squad named for CONCACAF Qualifiers.
TTFA Media.

Trinidad and Tobago Men’s Under 20 Head Coach on Thursday announced a final 20-man roster to participate at the upcoming CONCACAF U-20 Men’s Championship at the IMG Academy, Bradenton, Florida from November 1st.

Latapy’s team resumed training on Tuesday at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella.

“It’s a situation where we’ve come up with what is the best squad available to us at this time and we’ll head entering the tournament with the intentions of giving the best possible performance. I’ve always treated any football match or competition in that manner as a player and as a coach and it will be no different this time around,” Latapy said.

T&T will feature in Group A and will meet St Vincent and the Grenadines in their first match on November 1st. They then face Puerto Rico (Nov 3rd), United States (Nov 5th), Suriname (Nov 7th) and US Virgin Islands on November 9th. Only the Group winners of the six groups will advance to the next phase of two qualifying from which the top two teams from each group will qualify for the 2019 FIFA Under 20 Men’s World Cup in Poland.

The 2018 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship will be the 6th edition of the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship (27th edition if all eras included), the men’s under-20 international football tournament organized by CONCACAF. It will be hosted at Bradenton, Florida, United States between 1–21 November 2018.

A new format was announced, removing the regional Central American and Caribbean qualifiers and guaranteeing each entrant a minimum of four competitive games.

The competition will determine the four CONCACAF representatives at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland. It will also determine the CONCACAF teams playing at the 2019 Pan American Games men’s football tournament in Lima. United States are the defending CONCACAF champions.

Visa issues for U-20s Francis, Beckles.
By Walter Alibey (Guardian).

T&T's Under-20 footballers worked out at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella yesterday for a second time this week, in preparation for the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers in the USA in two weeks time.

The first session was on Wednesday morning, and the young players are to go through another training session today at the same venue from 9:30 am, under the watchful eyes of national coach Russell Latapy.

The team is expected to leave on Sunday. Team manager Alexandria Procupe said. But after receiving visas for most of the players and staff, she is still attempting to gain interviews for Club Sando's Jabarry Francis, Shiva Boys Hindu College's Matthew Beal and St Anthony's College's midfielder Highley Beckles.

Both Beal and Francis are two late additions to the team, hence the last-ditch efforts to seek visas for them, while Beckles was among the squad considered earlier in the campaign but was cut late by Latapy. Procupe said because an application was submitted earlier for Highley, she has been forced to continue her efforts to secure a visa for him.

Procupe who was expected to submit the final list of 20 players to the Concacaf on Wednesday night, said if the visas are not secured in time for Sunday, the players will either make the trip at a later date or in a worst-case scenario, be replaced.

The team includes Portugal-based Che Benny, defender Luke Singh who now represents Toronto FC in the Canadian top-flight competition, striker Isaiah Lee who recently started school at Rochester College in the United States, midfielder John Paul Rochford, who left local shores last night for trial in the US, and 2017 Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) stand-out Judah Garcia, who is on trials in Argentina.

Procupe said they are all to join the T&T team in the USA, ahead of the tournament, where TT will contest Group 'A' of the qualifiers, that includes St Vincent and the Grenadines, Puerto Rico, Suriname, US Virgin Islands and defending champions USA.

Procupe told Guardian Media Sports that although the team did not receive proper preparation, she is confident her lads will have a good chance of advancing. "The mood in the camp is very upbeat. I think we have a great bunch of talented players, who, had been prepared better, would have really had a good chance."

The players are scheduled to do their medicals on Saturday. They will open their campaign against St Vincent and the Grenadines on November 1 and will play their last match November 9 against the USVI.

Only the top team will progress from the group.

TEAM

Denzil Smith, Jabari Brice, Che Benny, Judah Garcia, Kishon Hackshaw, Justin Homer, Jerrin Jackie, Derron John, Shaqkeem Joseph, Isaiah Lee, Mikel Mieres, Nickel Orr, Jaydon Prowell, Mark Ramdeen, Matthew Beal, John-Paul Rochford, Luke Singh, Kerdell Sween, Jabarry Francis, Ethan Bonaparte.

One of things I don't like with these tournaments especially in a WC year, is all other tournaments get push back. We at a disadvantage because most of our players are still in school. Yes, some of them are attached to clubs, but that don't mean much. This tournament is in the middle of the first semester of high schools and of universities. It is difficult for some to do this. But still DJW and his policies has screwed up the entire development program.

U-20 Men start Concacaf qualifiers versus St Vincent/Grenadines.
TTFA Media.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Under 20 Men’s team will open their campaign in the CONCACAF Under 20 Men’s Championship and World Cup qualifiers against St Vincent and the Grenadines at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida at 12:45pm on Thursday.

The team, under head coach Russell Latapy had a training session at the match venue at 11am on Wednesday as all the teams converged at the IMG facility with a flurry of activity as teams completed their final bits of fun tuning before the competition commences.

Head coach Latapy said he was looking for a positive start.

“Obviously in this type of environment there can only be one thing on our minds which is to go into the tournament looking for the best possible start. Traditionally we have been able to compete in these competitions and while this year the tournament is being played in this format for the first time with all the countries coming together, we can say that we are among the teams that have gotten to the final phase on a number of occasions including the previous campaign,” Latapy told TTFA Media.

“But in saying that, there is no pressure on us because we came here without the level of preparation we would have wanted and now it’s down to how we well we can be mentally ready as well as physically to go in there and try to get results,” Latapy added.

“We had our final session before the game today missing three players who arrive later on Wednesday but generally the groups of boys will be looking to go out there, enjoy their football and compete as best as possible on the day.”

There should be no shortage of drama when Concacaf Under-20 Championship Group E action kicks off on Thursday.

Costa Rica leads a five-team group that will feature some entertaining match-ups. The Ticos are appearing in their fifth CU20 and will be seeking to punch their ticket to a 10th FIFA Under-20 World Cup.

Haiti has featured in three previous CU20 tournaments and while it has never qualified for an U20 World Cup, perhaps things could change with a victory over Costa Rica on Matchday 3 of the group.
Not to be overlooked is Bermuda, who is participating in its second CU20. The island nation also reached the 2017 edition of the CU20 where it earned a solid 1-1 draw against Trinidad and Tobago. Bermuda will be hoping to take another step forward beginning on Thursday.

Also in the mix in Group E are debutants Saint Lucia and Barbados, each with players that already have Senior National Team experience in 2019/20 Concacaf Nations League Qualifying.

The 2018 edition of the Men’s Under-20 World Cup qualifying tournament will be disputed between a record number of 34 teams. Unlike the previous format, which included regional qualifiers in the Caribbean and Central America and one final championship, this year’s redesigned competition ensures that all the participating teams have access to play more top-level football matches.

After an initial group phase, the six group winners will advance to the Qualification Stage, where they will be divided into two groups of three teams. The two group winners plus the second-place finishers of the Qualification Stage will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Poland 2019. Additionally, the two group winners will advance to the tournament’s final to determine the regional champion.

Fans will be able to follow all the action through the Confederation’s partner networks, including Univision Deportes (United States), Fox Sports Latin America (Mexico & Central America), Flow Sports (Caribbean) and other local partners. Fans in T&T can view Thursday’s match live on Flow Sports 1.

The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Very good game so far, balanced but SVG has better talents. Nice to see so many good U-20 players in both sides. SVG took the lead 1-0, somewhat deserved, though.

I don't think we had any warm up games so this will have to be it.
Good comeback from TT after being 2-0 down, dominating the game but soft finishing.

We have a chance to win this.

Great fightback. Have to wonder what we could with proper preparation.
I remember Brian Williams doing well with the U-20s some years back.

Will certainly have to up our game for the US.
