Wim Rijsbergen, Trinidad and Tobago's head coach, wants to have a look at the talent available in the United States and Canada before the 2007 Digicel Caribbean Cup Final, which will be contested in Trinidad in January.
The former assistant to Leo Beenhakker is holding a mini-camp in South Carolina, USA from November 22-26, following the T&T "Soca Warriors" next friendly international against Austria in Vienna on November 15.
Rijsbergen hopes to have a look at players such as Scott Sealy, Anthony Noreiga, Kevon Neaves and other unknown talent.
"We have another game against Austria, and we are also looking to go to the USA and gather all the players we can find there. We have a mini-camp in November and we will try to take the guys from Canada and the locally-based players all the way to South Carolina and we will see the Telesfords and the Kevon Neaves and the Noreigas and the other talent we can find," said the Dutchman.
Like former national coach Bertille St Clair, who saw his squad struggle to third place behind Caribbean champions Jamaica a year ago, Rijsbergen is aware that he will have to do without his England and Scotland-based pros for the Caribbean Cup tournament.
"We are looking for maybe at team of locally-based, mixed with the talent from the USA and Canada for the Digicel Cup because it is not a FIFA date," he said.
Anyone know if Wim looked at any players from Canada as stated in the above article?
