Yorke named Manchester United legend.
By: Trinidad Express.

Trinidad and Tobago national football team captain Dwight Yorke can now officially claim to be a Manchester United legend.
Yorke, a former record signing for the England Premier League giant and one of football's most popular clubs, was listed 43rd out of Manchester United's top 50 players of all time.
The list was compiled by United for the recently-released Manchester United Opus, which is a limited edition 850-page book on the "Red Devils". The Opus costs 3,000 pounds (TT$37,056.50) and only 10,000 copies were printed.
Sir Bobby Charlton, a 1966 England World Cup star and one of Europe's top goal scoring midfielders, topped United's all-time playing list followed by the late and gifted Northern Ireland winger George Best.
Yorke's present Sunderland coach and former teammate and midfielder, Roy Keane, placed third, while enigmatic Frenchman, Eric Cantona, was seventh.
Yorke's United career lasted roughly three years but he is fondly remembered for his part in the club's historic treble of titles in his debut season in 1998/99.
Yorke was the top scorer and most valuable player when United won England Premiership and FA honours as well as the European Champions League crown-an unprecedented honour in Britain.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was knighted in honour of that successful season.
The Tobago-born striker, whose purchase was initially met with howls of derision and ridicule from the British press, was one of 12 players from that treble squad who made the elite list.

Apart from Keane and Yorke, goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel (8th), midfielders Ryan Giggs (9th), Paul Scholes (10th), David Beckham (14th), defenders Gary Neville (18th), Dennis Irwin (20th), Jaap Stam (45th) and strikers Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (22nd), Andy Cole (41st) and Teddy Sheringham (50th) were also members of the treble squad.
England attacker Wayne Rooney (11th), Dutch striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy (15th), Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo (39th) and English central defender Rio Ferdinand (48th) complete the list of active players who were honoured. Giggs, Scholes, Neville, Solskjaer, Rooney, Ronaldo and Ferdinand are still United players.

Me ain't know how yhey come up with that list nah ,But it seems they don't fully appreciate or realize
what impact he made .With out him all that woulda never ever happen . Me as a Dwight supporter see that he took a contender ,by the boot straps and made them giant slayers ,he suppose to be atleast no. 19  on the list ,cause he will soon be pushed out the top 50 , fer that I finally ready to say f**k manchester united !

Ferdinand should not be on dat list.  One can easily argue dat he was way better during his pre-drug problem days...before ManU.  Wayne Rooney #11?  Yuh must be joking.

Dey basing dis on dey whole football career or what dey do for Man U?  Steups.  Dey should jes name 50 players and call dat George.  Dwight was a major part of dat Treble with Cole but Van Nistlerooy and Rooney way ahead of them.  Dat doh make any sense whatsoever.

This thread is just showing how ignorant people could be when they backing they horse. Nothing wrong with bias but if, as Trinis ,we have an obvious bias toward Dwight we shouldn't assume that our opinion of where Yorke ranks in Manchester United history is more informed than that of the club itself.

Most people here acting like the treble and the three titles that Yorke won at the club are the only achievements that ever occurred at Manchester United.

CV:5 believes that Yorke was the only contributor United winning a treble, forget about Keane, Beckham, Cole, Stam, Schmeichel, Giggs, Scholes etc. This is laughable.

Savannah you surprise me comparing Yorke to Van Nistelrooy. Yes Yorke was there in the trebel year but Van Nistelrooy scored many, many more goals and had a better strike rate so it is easy to make a case for him having a bigger impact.

Yuh right though, they should have just named the 50 to save us from another "Manchester United do Yorke a wickedness" thread.

Listen nah horse, Yorke help Man U to their greatest achievement ever for their club or any English Club.  I doh care how many goals and strike rate ah man have.  Is quality vs quantity.  Ah will go with de former.  Watch meh, Sir Alex get knighted as result of de treble yuh know, not because ah Dutchman score ah set of goal in de domestic only.  Bigger impact for me is silverware.

Using that logic Yorke should be ahead of Cantona, Hughes, Law and Best as well. In fact take the treble winning team and put them in spots 1 to 12 (with Yorke first of course) and call that george.

As for Van Nistelrooy being a domestic scorer I believe that he and Raul are the 2 highest scorers in CL history and he is definitely United's top scorer in Europe, the teams he played on just wern't good enough or lucky enough to win a CL. So if Yorke was present on a CL winning team and Van Nistelrooy is an all-time record scorer why must people value Yorke higher. To me there is room for argument.

The treble was a team achievement and a special year when everything clicked. As a result, it was a once ina  lifetime thing.

Yuh can't give Yorke all the credit for that and discount the contribution of other players during that time and during the 100-odd years that preceded it or the 7 years that followed.
