Kerry Alleyne...resigned as CFU general secretary.

JACK WARNER is soon to announce the appointment of a new general secretary of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) after Kerry Alleyne, the first woman to hold the position, resigned following two years on the job.

Alleyne was appointed in 2004 as a replacement for Harold Taylor, who served 12 years in the position. Before taking up the post, Alleyne was the event co-ordinator for both the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (T&TFF), the CFU and CONCACAF and was regarded as carrying out many of the functions of general secretary long before her appointment.

Alleyne recently got married and is migrating to the United States, where she takes up a similar position with CONCACAF, the body covering football in North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

At the recent launch of the 2007 Digicel Caribbean Cup final in Trinidad and Tobago, Warner, head of both the CFU and CONCACAF, confirmed that some 30 well-qualified applicants wanted Alleyne's position and he is likely to name a replacement today.

"I go to Japan for the World Club Championship and will return to Trinidad on December 15 (today), after which I will announce who is the new CFU general secretary. We have a long list of applicants, some with Masters degrees. We will cut the field down to a short-list of some six candidates, after which we will select a replacement for Mrs Alleyne."

Warner added that Alleyne will now be fulfilling a great role in football as she will be assistant to the Director of Marketing in the CONCACAF office. Her role will deal specifically with the Caribbean, using the expertise she has gathered over the years.

Just before going on leave from the local CONCACAF office on Edward Street, Port of Spain, Alleyne said it was not a difficult decision to resign as CFU general secretary since she had given seven years to football and was now embarking on a different aspect of her life.
