Capello: Sell Ronaldo & Beckham...but who buying?
« on: January 09, 2007, 11:41:04 AM »
apart from the MLS, J-League, and dem sheikh country sides?

January 9, 2007

MADRID (AFP) - Crisis club Real Madrid are set to cut their losses during the transfer window and ditch their two remaining galacticos Ronaldo and David Beckham.

Real began 2007 as they finished 2006 - with a defeat - and already the knives are out for two of the Bernabeu's biggest, and best-paid, stars.

Coach Fabio Capello met with sporting director Pedrag Mijatovic and president Ramon Calderon on Monday and AS claims he demanded the two stars be sold during the January transfer window.

While Beckham, whose contract runs out at the end of the season, continues to stall over signing an extension, Ronaldo's is a case of time having finally caught up with the three-times world player of the year.

"If you can, sell him during the transfer window," Capello told his bosses, according to Spanish newspaper AS on Tuesday. "In these conditions, he's not part of my plans."

Ronaldo's career has hit the skids over the past two seasons.

Once regarded as the most dangerous and prolific striker in world football, he is now much derided for his expanded waistline and reduced influence on the pitch.

Last season he was frequently jeered by Real's fans and before a Champions League match against Arsenal he made a public plea for patience, while also suggesting he would leave in the close season.

But the new season brought a new coach and Capello decided to give him one last chance, only now his patience has worn thin.

French newspaper L'Equipe has also claimed that Ronaldo, who has played in just seven league games this season, more than half of those as a substitute, and scored a solitary goal, is a bad influence on other players, notably young Brazilians Robinho and Marcelo.

Rumours abound that Ronaldo leads his impressionable team-mates on inappropriate nights out, while he often turns up to train, according to Capello, "in an unacceptable condition for a professional footballer at Real Madrid."

But to blame Ronaldo for Real's malaise this season would be unfair. In all competitions he has taken to the field just 13 times, including six times as a substitute.

His return of four goals and no assists is not what the Bernabeu has come to expect of the once star striker, but given he missed the start of the season with injury and has started only seven of Real's 24 matches in league, cup and Champions League, he cannot be solely blamed for their demise.

Yet Ronaldo's performance in Real's recent slump, which included three defeats in their last four league matches, was not worth his reported 10 million euros a year salary.

A 3-0 defeat at home to newly-promoted Recreativo Huelva saw Ronaldo play 67 minutes and manage only one shot on goal - which missed the target.

He got only 37 minutes as a substitute at Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday, a team that had not won in 10 league games, and he managed just two shots this time.

The Brazilian superstar's status at the club has greatly changed.

His former president Florentino Perez, whose galacticos policy at the club initially yielded such great success, once said of him: "I would sooner sell the Santiago Bernabeu than let Ronaldo leave."

But Perez's successor Calderon apparently does not feel the same way.

It is not just Ronaldo under pressure, though. Capello has been criticised for his signings and their lack of success.

Of his summer recruits, only Ruud van Nistelrooy has been a success. Fifteen goals in 21 games in all competitions has seen to that.

But even Italian World Cup winning captain and new world and European player of the year Fabio Cannavaro has not overly impressed and defensive midfielders Emerson and Mahamadou Diarra have become deeply unpopular with Real's attack-hungry support.

Capello's signing of three South American youngsters (Marcelo, Fernando Gago and Gonzalo Higuain) for a combined 35 million euros in the transfer window does not seem likely to solve their issues either.

But the question is, are Real really in crisis. Capello insisted after the Deportivo defeat that they were still enjoying a good season and Mijatovic said after Monday's meeting that the club had faith in Capello and knew how to solve it's problems.

They are third in the league, only five points off top spot despite their recent troubles, and still in both the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.

Some might be glad to suffer such a crisis, but tellingly Capello decided Tuesday to bar the press and public from Real's training sessions.

Real, it seems, have their backs to the wall.

Capello like he can't make up his mind. before the season start good he said he did not want Robinho. Then he fall out with Diarra and Cassano. Now Becks and Ronaldo for sale.
Now Capello knows his business, but shit man can't see Raul struggling. Raul, Van and Emmerson play the whole game Ronaldo get 20 minutes. The midfield Becks, Emmerson and play maker (Raul) fail to create for Van. Yet Ronaldo get singled out.
To date Raul scored 6 playing the most time.
Robinho scored 6 limited time
Ronaldo scored 4 limited time

Shevchenko in shock swap link for Ronaldo
Clubcall.com

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho wants to swap striker Andriy Shevchenko for Real Madrid's Ronaldo according to reports over the weekend.

The Daily Star on Sunday claimed that sources close to Mourinho have revealed that a deal is under discussion between the two clubs with the intention of completing before the January transfer window closes.

Shevchenko has struggled to come to terms with the Premiership but Madrid believe he will find his goal scoring touch again in La Liga.

The paper claims that the deal will be a straight player swap with both players being the same age and rated at the same value.

Football: Al Ittihad make offer for Ronaldo

AFP
January 10, 2007

MADRID (AFP) - Wealthy Saudi Arabia side Al Ittihad have made an offer to sign Real Madrid's out-of-favour Brazilian striker Ronaldo, the Spanish press have reported.

The As sports daily said that the club had proferred 20 million euros to acquire the services of the all-time record World Cup scorer who is no longer wanted by Real's Italian coach Fabio Capello.

An official of Al Ittihad in Jeddah confirmed that they were after the 30-year-old Ronaldo and wanted to take him on a three-year deal.

"We are waiting at any moment for a reply from the Spanish club," the official said.

He added that Al-Ittihad were offering seven million dollars to Real, with 18 million dollars going to Ronaldo over the three years.

Former Asian champions Al Ittihad last week clinched a deal to bring veteran Portuguese midfielder Figo to the Gulf from July on a one-year contract worth 4.5 million euros.

Jah Gol Emmerson played every game and Real still give up 16 goals already this season. Last year they gave up 40 in total. At this rate they on course for another 40 even with Emmerson.

Becks to leave Madrid
« Reply #15 on: January 10, 2007, 09:53:02 AM »
David Beckham will leave Real Madrid in the summer, according to the club's sporting director Predrag Mijatovic.

"Beckham will leave us, we will not renew his contract with the club," he told Sky Italia television.

The 31-year-old, whose current deal expires in June, has been linked with a host of clubs from England, Italy, Spain, France and the United States.

Beckham has started just nine times for the Primera Liga side this season under coach Fabio Capello.

The player's spokesman Simon Oliveira said he was surprised by the news after telling the BBC Sport website last week that a new two-year deal had been put on the table.

Oliveira told BBC Sport: "Nobody has said anything to us. As far as we're concerned, the offer is still there and a meeting is due this week."

Meanwhile, the Spanish club have opted, at this stage, not to back up their employee's claim.

"There is nothing official confirmed yet on Beckham's future," said a spokesman for club president Ramon Calderon.

Beckham, who signed for Real for £25m in July 2003, is one of six senior players to have been left out of Real's Copa del Rey game with Real Betis on Thursday.

The other 'Galactico' to have been omitted from the 18-man squad is Brazil striker Ronaldo, who was also tipped to leave the Bernabeu along with the former England captain by Spanish newspaper AS on Tuesday.

Beckham has found it difficult to secure a place in the first team this season with Capello often preferring Raul, Robinho and Jose Antonio Reyes on the wing.

The former Manchester United player was included in the starting XI for the league matches against Getafe, Sevilla and Recreativo Huelva, but Real lost all three games.

Beckham also started September's 2-0 Champions League defeat at Lyon.

In the nine matches he has started, Real have been defeated in all but two.

Beckham could find a new lease on life at Right Back on any team, he is still dedicated in the tackle and could still swing them from the wing on the right. He was never a winger that attacked the flanks down the line but he would be a great foil for a winger of that type.

Real Madrid After Stern

Beckham's Madrid future undecided
[/size]
David Beckham's future at Real Madrid remains unclear after reports that the Spanish club would not offer the former England captain a new contract.

Predrag Mijatovic, Real's sporting director, was reported to have told Sky Italia there would be no new contract.

However, Mijatovic later said his words had been mistranslated and he actually said: "Beckham's contract has not been renewed, yet."

Talks regarding a new two-year deal are set to resume on Thursday.

Beckham's spokesman Simon Oliveira said Real's offer for Beckham, whose contract expires in June, is "still on the table", although the player has been allowed to speak to other clubs since 1 January about a possible move.

An exit from the Bernabeu seemed likely, earlier on Wednesday, when Mijatovic was quoted as telling Sky Italia television: "Beckham will leave us, we will not renew his contract with the club."

But a spokesman for the club's president, Ramon Calderon, was quick to play down his mistranslated comment.

"There is nothing official confirmed yet on Beckham's future," said spokesman David Jimenez Arribas.

Nevertheless, it remains unclear as to whether the former Manchester United star will be plying his trade for Real next season.

He has been linked with a host of clubs from England, Italy, Spain, France and the United States.

Beckham has failed to cement a regular place in coach Fabio Capello's side during the current campaign, having started just nine times.

The 31-year-old, who signed for Real for £25m in July 2003, has again been left out of the Real squad for the Copa del Rey tie with Real Betis on Thursday.

The other 'Galactico' to have been omitted is Brazil striker Ronaldo, who was tipped by Spanish newspaper AS on Tuesday to leave the Bernabeu along with the former England captain.

Beckham was included in the starting XI for the league matches against Getafe, Sevilla and Recreativo Huelva and the Champions League game at Lyon, but Real lost all four encounters.

In the nine matches he has started, Real have been defeated in all but two.

David Beckham Expected to Sign With U.S. Team
International soccer star David Beckham is expected to sign with a U.S. Major League Soccer team.  (Philippe Wojazer/Reuters)

Jan. 11, 2007 — International soccer superstar David Beckham is expected to come to America to play for a U.S. Major League Soccer team.

"I've played now for two of the biggest clubs in the world. I've played at the highest level for 15 years, and now I think I need another challenge," Beckham said.

The announcement has the sports world buzzing.

"David Beckham coming to the United States is … [like] Tiger Woods meeting Brad Pitt on the red carpet," said USA Today sports columnist Christine Brennan. "This transcends sports. This is a big, big deal."

Outside the United States, Beckham is not only the world's biggest sports star, but also a certified sex symbol. His moves off the field are followed just as closely as his moves on the field.

He is married to former Spice Girl Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham, and the couple is a favorite target of the British paparazzi.

And companies know that. He's received $20 million a year to push Pepsi and Adidas, and his Adidas cleats fetch $450 a pair.

In the United States, he's not a household name — at least not yet.

But media watchers are gambling that a lot more Americans will know him very soon.

"All that fame and fortune that he's amassed, which is already the world's largest snowball, is going to be rolling down the hill in the United States gathering momentum," Brennan said.

Ronaldo -> AC Milan

Ronaldo poised to leave Real for Milan - report

MADRID, Jan 25 (Reuters) - Ronaldo is poised to travel to Italy to undergo a medical with AC Milan after the Serie A club made a six million-euro ($7.79 million) offer for the Brazilian striker, Spanish media reported on Thursday.

Daily El Mundo said on its Web page (www.elmundo.es) that Ronaldo would sign an 18-month contract with Milan who would offer him the chance to end his career at the club if he lives up to expectations.

Marca's Web page (www.marca.com) said Italian intermediary Ernesto Bronzetti, who has been involved in the negotiations, had said the two clubs had reached an agreement.

The three-times World Player of the Year had been tipped to leave Real Madrid ever since coach Fabio Capello made it clear the 30-year-old did not feature in his plans.

Ronaldo has been a long-time target for AC Milan who made a reported bid of between 15 and 18 million euros for the striker in the close season.

A transfer to Milan would represent a return to familiar territory for Ronaldo, who played for Inter Milan between 1997 and 2002.

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has said that Real Madrid striker Ronaldo will undergo a medical tomorrow ahead of his expected transfer to the Serie A club early next week.

Ronaldo arrived in Milan on Thursday night and was present at the Rossoneri's Coppa Italia semi-final tie against Roma at the San Siro.

Galliani, who was among the Milan representatives that met the Brazil international at Milan's Linate airport, told the club's official website: 'Ronaldo will remain a Real Madrid player tomorrow [Friday], [when] he will have his medical at Milanello.

'I have fixed a meeting with Real Madrid for Monday.'

Ronaldo has been told he is surplus to requirements in Madrid and is thought to be joining Milan for a fee in the region of £5million.

Galliani said earlier today: 'We have made a bid for Ronaldo, we are talking so let's wait and see. There is still plenty to do.'

Ernesto Bronzetti, who has been acting as a broker in the potential deal, told www.gazzetta.it: 'The player is coming to Milan and that means the negotiations have reached a good point.

'I cannot say any more than that.'

The player had earlier attended training at Real Madrid's Valdebebas complex as usual.

He is no stranger to the Italian city having played for AC Milan's city neighbours Inter before his move to Madrid.

Ronaldo, 30, left Inter in 2002 shortly after inspiring Brazil to World Cup glory.

Much of his time with the Nerazzurri had been blighted with injury but he blamed poor relations with then Inter coach Hector Cuper for his decision to move to Madrid.
