$40,000 for football in Plymouth and Bethesda

State-owned oil company Petrotrin has pumped $40,000 into the sponsorship of a community football league in the villages of Plymouth and Bethesda.
The league, which is organised by the Plymouth/Bethesda Sporting Development Committee, was officially launched with a colourful parade of teams at Plymouth Recreation Grounds last week Saturday.
According to Trevor Armstrong the league would comprise 13 teams that would be vying for a large challenge trophy on display. Reverend Quilton Callender in delivering the feature address urged the players to display good sportsmanship and discipline throughout the competition.
Phoenix to launch Academy

l clubs on the island will launch the Tobago Phoenix Sports Academy on the Canaan/Bon Accord recreation ground tomorrow (Saturday) from 10 a.m.
The Academy will offer coaching for football and cricket and is open to children between the ages of five and 17.
Head coach of 1976 Phoenix, Terry Williams is the technical director while Shelton Williams and John Pollard will be in charge of football and cricket respectively. Registration fee is $100 while the monthly fee is $125. Registered players will receive a full uniform kit. The launching of the Academy is a major milestone in the Club's long list of achievements and history, Terry Williams said.
