Aaron Downing nets on debut for Belgium Club.

Former Vibe CT 105 W Connection midfielder Aaron Downing netted on his debut for Belgium third division Club Royal Whitestar Woluwe in their 4-0 trashing over Walhain on Saturday.
The 19 year old Aaron along with 18 year old W Connection teammate Matthew Bartholomew played their first match in the Belgium Third Division League for Whitestar on Saturday with impressive performances.
The pair left Trinidad last Tuesday to join the Belgium Club on loan after signing a three year contract with English Premiership Club Sheffield United and played their first practice match on Thursday as both players were the only two to register goals in their team’s 2-0 win.
With the brilliant performance put on by both Trinidadians it was no doubt that the Whitstar coach started them on Saturday against Walhain in their League match.
With eight League matches remaining, WS Woluwe are not far from promotion to the Second Division as they currently sit on fourth position with 38 points just one behind UR Namur and trailing six points from leaders Olympic Charleroi.
The former W Connection teenagers Aaron Downing and Matthew Bartholomew are expected to feature again for WS Woluwe on Saturday against sixth placed Tongres in the Belgium Third Division League.
Owner of the TT Pro League Club David John Williams spoke to ‘ttproleague.com’ and was delighted on the performances by both Matthew and Aaron saying, “We are very delighted on the performances by both Aaron and Matthew. I spoke with the Chairman of Sheffield United on the player’s performances and he too was overjoyed on the news.”
“This showed that after only a week they have settled well with the Belgium Club and we can only expect better things to come from both players,” ended Williams.
The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

I wonder why they didn’t get a student visa like Kenwayne Jones it would’ve been a lot easy all under 21 so age can’t be it.

More of a long term plan, better work around d work permit issue. Especially at a young age they not under as much pressure in the UK which allows them to settle better.

We need to get England out of our football psyche. We're better off sending our young players to other European countries (except Scotland or Ireland ;) )....work permits are much easier to get and they'll develop into better players (especially if they go to Holland, France or Germany).

Granted that the language situation is easier in England and Scotland but learning a new language build character ;D
.
Arsenal uses Belgium as a back door for their foreign players.  It's easier for them to get citizenship there and once that's done they don't need a permit to play in England.

Great to hear that they get into the first team already. At this young age this is really promising.

.............Good point :-[ .

In my defense when I was 13 Spurs had a practice session at Fatima ground...meeting the likes of Hoddle, Crooks, Archibald etc makes a huge impression on a young man.  That said if I was a young footballer with talent England wouldn't be at the top of my list (unless Spurs came calling ;D ).

We also need to get USA out of our football psyche, maybe all our footballers who play at colleges in the USA, can be better off by getting signed to clubs in the UK and studying for a degree in UK universities.

Bartholomew nets his first League goal in Belgium
Monday, 05 March 2007
By Randy Bando...

Trinidad and Tobago under 20 striker Matthew Bartholomew has netted his first Belgium Third Division League goal in only his second match for Royal Whitestar Woluwe FC as his team trashed Tongres 6-1 to jump to third position in the league standings.

Former Vibe CT 105 W Connection players Bartholomew and Aaron Downing have now registered a goal a piece in Woluwe last two League matches after joining the Club just two weeks ago.

Both Trinidadians however were substituted with just about half hour remaining as the third placed Club was well in control of the match against Tongres.

WS Woluwe will next play against fifth placed Couillet FC on Saturday as they try for promotion to the Second Division with seven more League matches remaining and it is expected both Bartholomew and Downing will be named in that squad.

At the moment Woluwe on 41 points trail leaders Spirmont Comblian who are on 47, also three points behind second placed Olympic Charleroi and one point clear of fourth placed UR Namur.

Two Saturday’s ago the former W Connection players played their first League match for the Belgium Club and midfielder Aaron Downing scored on debut as Royal Whitestar Woluwe beat Walhain 4-0.
