The Saints striker limped out of the defeat at Preston after taking a kick on an ankle and left the ground on crutches.
But X-Rays showed there is no break. A scan has revealed no ligament damage, just severe bruising.
It will sideline him for the trip to the Britannia Stadium but he could be fit for the home game against Colchester and possibly even the visit of Cardiff on Tuesday. Tickets now on general sale, book online.
Manager George Burley said: "He has had an X-Ray and a scan and there is no significant damage.
"The bruising and the swelling has come out and Saturday will be too early for him. He has a chance of being ready for Cardiff but otherwise he should be back for Colchester.
"It is too early to say. We will just have to see how he does. He will be seeing a chiropractor because we think it is more of a jarring.
"It has put the ankle slightly out of joint and we will have it manipulated to see if that helps."
Claus Lundekvam did not train today as a precaution because of a calf injury but he is expected to be fit.
Burley welcomes back Alexander Ostlund and Darren Powell who are both back in training and added to the squad.
He added: "Darren has been missed because he gives us toughness and strength through the middle while Alex gives us competitiveness and it is good to have them back at a key stage of the season."
