PRISON officers and inmates will receive “D” License Football Coaching Certificates from the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) today.

A presentation will be made to the 30 successful officers and 20 inmates in the Chapel at the Maximum Security Prison, Arouca, at 1.30 pm.

Both officers and inmates completed a 48-hour training workshop during January to February, where they were taught theory and practical aspects of football coaching.

Areas of training included passing, receiving and heading, ball control, goalkeeping, leactures on methods of coaching as well as care and prevention of injury.

Inmates from various prisons as well as, four YTC inmates comprised the inmates’ team to benefit from the programme.

The initiative forms part of the Prison Services strategic priority “Correct” which encompasses rehabilitation through physical education and sport. Awardees will be expected to “Pass it on” to their fellow officers and inmates. The team of trainers included former national footballer now TTFF technical director Lincoln Phillips, TTFF vice-president Rudolph Thomas and coaches Rajesh Latchoo, Kenrick Elie and Mohammed Isa.
