Football Supporter I have no beef with you & unlike many persons I respect everyone. You went out on a tangent about Connection not doing anything in their community & the money spent on video taping should have been used for integration etc, but what do you know about Connection, is it because they do not publicise what they do that you can automatically deduce that they do nothing. Anyway as part of their 15 year Anniversary celebrations all will be revealed and you will be very surprised...trust me.

Matthew 6:1-2
1 'Be careful not to parade your uprightness in public to attract attention; otherwise you will lose all reward from your Father in heaven.
2 So when you give alms, do not have it trumpeted before you; this is what the hypocrites do in the
synagogues and in the streets to win human admiration. In truth I tell you, they have had their reward.'

The above epitomises Connection because as far as I am aware the heirachy of Connection are practicing Roman Catholics so they do what they have do quietly without fanfare and the persons benefiting accept humbly.

I am not about to get into any bible warfare, because everyone has their own interpretations and will use scripture to prove their point & this is what I did likewise Football Supporter can use your quotes to justify his point & I have no qualms with that, I will continue to respect him, after all "to each his own".

We can all see & hear the same thing & then all have different interpretations or perspectives so arguing the bible is moot.

"The above epitomises Connection because as far as I am aware the heirachy of Connection are practicing Roman Catholics so they do what they have do quietly without fanfare and the persons benefiting accept humbly."

This is very laudable and I thoroughly agree with this position from a private individual. But from a marketing/promotional perspective, it is very worrying. With a league desperate to hold on to its existing sponsors and endlessly searching for new ones, each club should recognise their responsibilities to support the league. Programmes like the Digicel HOPE project and the attractions for sponsors. While hiding your light under a bushel is morally acceptable from an individual, it does nothing to project the club or the league.

We must continually shout out our achievements and be proud of them not humble. If we change lives or assist in some small way, in today's T&T, it good to promote good news.

Also, as a Roman Catholic, I learned at Sunday School that Jesus assembled the first, and probably, the most successful promotions and marketing team in history. How else would we know so much about him?

But I am pleased to learn that Connection is doing stuff as I know that they are a caring bunch and would be keen to help others.

FS, I sense a bit of deflection here ... videorecording is a best practice ... seems to me soccerama is saying ... "hey, we're engaged in a best practice, and have been doing so from the inception and because it's a best practice, you too should pursue it" ...

Fair interpretation or no?

A.S., I think I made it clear that I felt that videos are a good marketing tool? I also said that we would like to do this as well. Whether it takes priority over other areas is maybe where we differ. At this point, given our current budget, we prioritise the promotion of the club as a brand rather than individuals within the club. The marketing of our players is carried out in an entirely different manner. Aside from scholarships, we haven't moved any players yet, but I expect this to change shortly.

Yes, videos are good for marketing ... but they are also fundamental to player development etc. Hence, maybe not a discardable investment.

Cool, thanks Elan.
We wanted equipment that could film games in the stadiums so we could submit videos to TV here as well as create promotional videos to send overseas. It was explained to us that a poor quality video would actually work against us. When we were quoted for the equipment, we were told that we needed a HD camera which comes in around TT$25,000 and an editing suite at around TT$10,000. Apparently, this will soon be the minimum quality acceptable by TV. Anything less in quality would look poor on the website and TV. We were told that this was also necessary to allow zooming in and slow motion without compromising the quality.

Perhaps we should just go for a cost effective option for now.

Just to have some form of visual to start. A youtube channel today is almost - in many cases - better than tv.

This youth is featured on the Home page. I'm wondering why ? Is he considered special, I see he plays up in age often. However, from the clips I found the play a bit slow, and defending relatively poor. I'm just judging from the clip, mind you. I'm not saying that the talent is not there. Just don't find the clip extraordinary.

or is my observation incorrect

However, Kenton James (66th) and Byron Williams (69th) hit back with second-half items for Stars to grab all three points and climb to 16, two more than W Connection and Rangers. W Connection jumped top second on goal-difference after blanking Defence Force 2-0 with Kierron Mason (49th) and Anthony Herbert (54th) the scorers.

In the Under-14 Division, three different players were on target as Pt Fortin Civic FC whipped Caledonia AIA 3-1 to stay a point ahead of San Juan Jabloteh and North East Stars  with 18 from eight matches, but from a match more.

Any standout players Flex? I've heard good things about Rougier. Also, is Josiah Trimmingham related to Shemol Trimmingham?

Have not been paying much attention to the YPL.

Maybe if the info was more consistent.

In the past they also started of good and then when I created a special thread for it, info was hard to find and it left the thread incomplete, so I really don't pay that particular league much attention.

Dealing with the folks in T&T is worst than pulling teeth.

Club Sando joins line-up to compete at Youth Pro League 2015.
ttproleague.com.

Debutants Club Sando are one of ten clubs that will take to the field on Sunday 15 March in the divisions of Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17 when the 2015 Youth Pro League kicks off.

Despite some setbacks at the Under-13 level, Club Sando youth teams’ coordinator and head coach of the Under-17 team, Gerald Elliot, says the ambition is to compete at all levels and not just make up numbers.

“We were able to compete at the Super League level and now we are ready just as our senior counterparts to take the next step [to compete in the Pro League],” said the 50-year-old Elliot.

“Our Under-13s are lacking in numbers and preparation due to the fact that kids in that age category are preparing for SEA (Secondary Entrance Assessment) exam,” continued Elliot, a former coach at his alma mater St. Benedicts College.

“But we are still confident of being competitive at all divisions. We started preparations at the start of the year and so far we are doing pretty ok. The players are pretty much excited and we are ready to compete as much as possible.”

Club Sando will have their first test against former champions at all levels W Connection in the Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17 divisions in Round One Match Day One on Sunday at Gilbert Park in Couva.

Coaches Wayne Ceasar and Kevon Drayton are in charge of the Club Sando Under-13s while coaches Kyle Small and Corey Browne are with the Under-15 division, and like Elliot, are up against highly rated W Connection youth coaches such as former Trinidad and Tobago internationals Leonson Lewis and Brian Williams.

Last season Connection won the Under-16 division and finished third in the Under-14 and Under-18/Reserve divisions. San Juan Jabloteh won the Under-18/Reserve division while Point Fortin Civic finished second. At the Under-14 division North East Stars edged Jabloteh for the title by one goal after both teams finished with 40 points, six points ahead of Connection.

“Winning is not that important at this level; for me it’s all about making sure the kids understand football basics and the DNA of how DIRECTV W Connection plays,” said W Connection Under-13 coach Lewis, who played 36 times for the Trinidad and Tobago and scored 22 goals between 1988-1996.

The former Portugal based forward added: “When people or our club President (David John-Williams) observes the Under-13's play it should remind them of the senior team and at the end of the season my ultimate goal is to see how much players we can get on the national team, because every season we normally have about three or four players who make the step up.”

Under-17 head coach Brian Williams, who led the Under-16 league winning team on a historic tour to Italy, where they faced the youth teams of AC Milan, Inter Milan, Udinese and Hellas Verona, stated that alongside teaching his charges the Connection way, he is confident of another title.

“We are confident of winning the title again this year,” said the former “Strike Squad” defender. “This season there will be much more consultation with senior team coach Stuart Charles Fever because soon [our Under-17 players] could be ready move on to that stage.”

Also on Sunday in the 2015 Youth Pro League, which runs from March 15 - July 17, Defence Force will host North East Stars at Trinity College East; Caledonia AIA will host Point Fortin Civic at the Maracas Recreation Ground; Jabloteh will hosts Police FC at San Juan North Secondary School; and Central FC are hosts against St. Ann’s Rangers at the New Settlement Ground in Chaguanas.

Players should be playing with their year by year (peer) groups (U14, U15, U16 etc.) rather than in broader categories such as U-15, U17 and U20. Discuss.

I think the idea is to mirror the upcoming FIFA competitions so U17's get regular football vs their own age groups etc

Jabloteh start perfect in Youth Pro League 2015
ttproleague.com.

76 goals in 15 games as YPL kicks off with a bang, Connection and Jabloteh grab double figures against debuting Club Sando and Police respectively in U-13s

San Juan Jabloteh recorded a perfect start to their Youth Pro League 2015 campaign by defeating Police FC at the Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17 levels in Round One Match Day One on Sunday.

Jabloteh, hosting Police at San Juan North Secondary in San Juan, recorded a 12-1 win in the Under-13 level -- a result that only W Connection did slightly better by whipping debuting Club Sando 12-0 in the same age group at Gilbert Park in Couva.

Molik Khan grabbed a hat-trick for the Connection under-13s coached by former Trinidad and Tobago international forward Leonson Lewis, while Adiica Ash got to a double and teammates Stevon Thomas, Joshua Joseph, Tarik Lee, Tyrique Joseph, Dawn St Rose and Nkosi Sampson added a goal each.

Malik Robinson and Rogers Dillon both scored twice for the Jabloteh Under-13s and teammates Nickell Alexander, Daniel David, Real Gill, Kaihim Thomas, Terrel Wiley, Jaheim Marshall, Jude Johnson and Tyrell Straker got a goal each. While Police’s consolation item was scored by Emmanuel Bruce.

Jabloteh, champions of last season’s Under-18/Reserve division and runners-up in the Under-14 division, also defeated Police 8-1 in the Under-15 and 4-0 in the Under-17 divisions on Sunday to contribute to 76 goals being scored in a total of 15 matches played on the opening day of the YPL 2015.

Kesean St Rose netted a beaver-trick for the Jabloteh Under-15s over Police while a goal each from Nickell Orr, Rakim Cabi and Jodel Brown, and an own goal contributed to the 8-1 score-line.

And to complete the Jabloteh hat-trick, a double by Dominic Douglas and a goal each from Khiesa Granger and Hail Beckles earned the home side a 4-0 win over visiting Police.

Connection, winners of last season’s Under-16 division, defeated Club Sando 3-0 in the Under-17 division on Sunday but had to settle for a 1-1 come-from-behind draw in the Under-15 division against the YPL newcomers.

At Trinity College East in Trincity, Defence Force and North East Stars played to 3-3 and 2-2 draws in the Under-13 and Under-15 divisions respectively before North East Stars, champions of last season’s Under-14 age group, registered a 3-1 win in the Under-17 division.

Caledonia, hosting Point Fortin Civic at the Maracas Recreation Ground in St. Joseph, registered wins, 3-0 and 4-1, in the Under-13 and Under-17 divisions respectively but were defeated 2-1 by the visitors in the Under-15 division.

Central FC, meanwhile registered 2-1 wins over visiting St. Ann’s Rangers at the New Settlement Ground in Chaguanas in the Under-13 and Under-17 divisions but were held to a 1-1 draw in the Under-15 division.

Malta Carib sponsors Youth Pro League
T&T Newsday Reports.

Malta Carib has thrown its support behind youth football, specifically the junior division that was designed as the “feeder” to the clubs of the Digicel Pro League.

The sponsorship of the Youth Pro League was launched yesterday afternoon at the Queen’s Park Oval, where representatives of both the Pro League and the well-known non- alcoholic beverage expressed the belief that it would be a “historic” partnership.

Before a small group of Youth League players and their coaches, Carib Sponsorship and Events Manager Colin Murray listed some of the brand’s better-known ambassadors such as football legend Dwight Yorke, entertainer Faye-Ann Lyons and presently cricketer Dwayne Bravo.

“We see this,” Murray said, “as the perfect opportunity to align Malta Carib with football, a sport which encourages the youth of TT to explore their full potential both on and off the field. We truly believe that the only way forward for sport in our beloved country is in the investment in the youth and the development process of the respected individuals involved in their care.”

Malta Carib Brand Ambassador Dwayne Bravo impressed upon the players the importance of discipline and respect for their teammates and coaches. Using himself as an example of sporting success, Bravo said that while he came from a humble family, he is now able to provide for them, through his success in sport. “Sport can change your life,” he said, “but you need to make sacrifices first.”

In recognising the importance of his organisation’s new partner, Pro League CEO Dexter Skeene listed the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid among the major clubs which have benefitted from youth programmes.

“Youths are an investment, not an expenditure,” he stated, adding that without properly-instituted youth development programmes, national teams would always struggle to survive in international competition. He added that approximately 70 percent of national Under- 17 and Under-19 players come through the Youth Pro League.

This year, the Youth League is divided into Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17 age groups. Competition kicked off earlier this week and ends in July.

Malta Youth League to bolster young men.
By Sean Nero (Guardian).

The 2015 Malta Carib Youth Pro League season, which is already in progress, will again be an all-male affair.

At Friday’s launch of the tournament organised by the TT Pro League at the President’s Box, Queen’s park Oval, Port-of-Spain, Dexter Skeene, the organisation’s chief executive officer, said for now this division of the League would be an all-boys affair.

He said before the girls segment was introduced the TT Pro League needed to get the components in the adult division right and ensure the effective operations of the junior category was seamless, too. Only then would female athletes be invited to participate and exhibit their skills adding to the dynamics of the sporting event.

Skeene said the junior instalment of the League was where the organisation was able to drive inspiration and motivation. In his view, administrators of the League did not have the luxury of being short-sighted considering that the future of the entire organisation and the improvement in the standard of play resided in the quality of the youth football and the development programmes.

Competition in this season’s tournament will feature athletes in the Under-13, U-15 and U-17 divisions. Last year’s fixture had U-14, U-16 and U-18 footballers on show. While no cash awards have been assigned to the competition, individual and team awards would be presented.

But even as the footballers gear up, advocacy efforts through the use of social media was being applied to bolster awareness and positively promote these athletes during each game and stage of the League.

“We must encourage our players to experiment and be creative; not being afraid to make mistakes. Too many times our creative players are being stifled because the focus is purely on winnings and not development. These issues are part of a greater awareness that we must have if we are to strive for the excellence that is necessary to effectively take our youth to the stage where they make a smooth transition to senior and international football.

“The youth are invaluable. They are an investment, not expenditure. I have said it before and I will say it again: get your academy and development infrastructure wrong and your demise is certain; it is not a question of if, but when,” he said.

“Additionally, in the absence of a well-structured and coherent youth development pathway, T&T football will never grace a senior Fifa World Cup on a continuous basis. It is at this stage that the right attitude, technique and skills are nurtured and properly developed. I urge, even implore the TT Pro league clubs to address in a serious and dedicated manner the proper development of their youth teams. It is at this level your best coaches and football minds should be focused.”

He said local football administrators only had to look to the tried and tested systems being employed and deployed by champion international clubs Barcelona FC, Manchester United, and Santos FC.

In addition to the technical and tactical aspects of the game, Skeene said, the clubs identified dealt with the proper age specific physical preparation, exposure, psychological and educational aspects, which would produce complete players who were ready to play and perform creditably at the international level.

“Germany decided in 2003 to place the focus on producing more technically proficient home grown players and the German Football Association implemented a talent development programme, which was introduced with the aim of identifying promising youngsters from 8-14 served by a 1,000 part-time coaches, all of whom had to hold the UEFA B-Licence and were expected to scout, as well as train the players. The results can be seen in their performances on the world stage in both club and country competitions,” said Skeene.

“This shows the importance of having and implementing a proper youth development structure. We have recognised this and the TT Pro League is laying the foundation and providing the platform for our youngsters to fulfil their true potential with this Malta Carib Youth Pro League. I anticipate a very exciting menu of youth football this season. We have and believe in the talent that resides in the Malta Carib Youth Pro-League.”

West Indies and Trinidad and Tobago cricket star Dwayne Bravo, in the capacity as brand ambassador for Malta Carib on Friday, told young footballers during the launch of the Malta Carib Youth Pro League 2015 to grab the opportunity offered to them with both hands.

Bravo, speaking at the President’s Box of the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain, in the presence of attentive youngsters and youth coaches, said, “Dwight Yorke is a perfect example.”

Bravo reminded that Yorke, a former Aston Villa and Manchester United star, who was picked up by the scouts of English club Aston Villa as a 17-year-old, could have easily decided to return to Tobago due to the cold conditions in England among other challenges and today be an unknown.

“He is retired now but the whole world knows of Dwight Yorke,” continued Bravo. “Try to be another Dwight Yorke or another Russell Latapy.”

The 31-year-old international cricket star highlighted that some of T&T’s present foreign based international footballers such as Kevin Molino (Orlando City – United States), Khaleem Hyland (Racing Genk – Belgium) and Lester Peltier (Slovan Bratislava – Slovakia) all started in the TT Pro League.

“You can make it but it’s not an overnight process,” the Queen's Park Cricket Club (QPCC) player told the young footballers. “You all have a perfect opportunity and I plead to you, grab it with both hands because some guys don’t have this opportunity.”

Bravo, who names Brian Lara as his childhood and present role model, added, “Growing up my dream was to play cricket at the highest level [like Brian Lara]. So from a very early age I knew what I wanted in life. You can live your dream but it doesn’t come easy. The most important thing is discipline; how dedicated you are to your sport and to your teammates. Respect your teammates and your coaching staff. Never doubt yourself; always think that you can achieve anything.

“There are great opportunities for you where sport is concerned; it can change your life. I came from a very poor family (…) and I am in a position now where I can provide for my entire family.”

Bravo congratulated Malta Carib for taking up the partnership role with the TT Pro League “in helping develop the youths of the country”.

Malta Carib – the popular beverage among kids and adults – will be predominantly displayed and among prizes during matches as well as on social media such as facebook, twitter and instagram during the 2015 Malta Carib Youth Pro League which kicked off on March 15.

But Colin Murray, sponsorship and events manager at Malta Carib, explained that his company sees the partnership as the perfect opportunity to align Malta Carib with football, a sport which encourages the youth of Trinidad and Tobago to explore their full potential both on and off the field.

“Malta Carib takes pride in partnering with the Trinidad and Tobago Youth Pro League 2015,” said Murray during the launch of the 2015 YPL season and Malta Carib partnership with the league. “We at Malta Carib (...) commend the TT Pro League for their vision and management of this league over the past ten years in the [various youth] divisions as we truly believe that the only way forward for sport in our beloved country is in the investment in the youth and the development process of the respected individuals involved in their care.

"Malta Carib sees this partnership with the TT Pro League as enhancing not only the league but a partnership that will make a difference and we would like all the players to be aware that Malta Carib will be initiating a number of individual prizes for the average performers. So to all the players taking part in the Malta Youth Pro League we urge you to give your best, try hard, be fair and be disciplined in your approach. You will reap the rewards.”

Ten clubs (Caledonia AIA, Central FC, Club Sando, Defence Force, North East Stars, Point Fortin Civic, Police FC, San Juan Jabloteh, St. Ann's Rangers, W Connection and newcomers Club Sando) will contest each other from March 15 - July 17 at Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17 levels in the Malta Carib YPL 2015.

The Malta Carib YPL 2015 action will resume on Sunday 22 March with North East Stars hosting Point Fortin Civic at the Larry Gomes Stadium training field; W Connection against Central FC at Gilbert Park; Police hosting Defence Force at the St. James Baracks; San Juan Jabloteh hosting St. Ann’s Rangers at San Juan North Secondary; and Caledonia AIA welcoming Club Sando at Maracas Recreation Ground in St. Joseph.

TT Pro League CEO Dexter Skeene, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to Malta Carib for their commitment to the Pro League and the youth of the nation, said, “More than any other activity that the TT Pro League is responsible for, the Youth Pro League is where we derive inspiration and motivation. We cannot ever be short-sighted. The future of the TT Pro League and the improvement in the standard of play, resides in the quality of the youth football and the development programmes. The youths are invaluable. They are an investment, not expenditure.”

Skeene, like in the past, cautioned clubs, “Get your academy and development infrastructure wrong and your demise is certain. It is not a question of if but when. Additionally, in the absence of a well-structured and coherent youth development pathway Trinidad and Tobago’s football will never grace a Senior FIFA World Cup on a continuous basis.

“It is at this stage that the right attitude, technique and skills are nurtured, honed and properly developed. I urge, even implore the TT Pro League clubs to address in a serious and dedicated manner the proper development of their youth teams. It is at this level your best coaches and football minds should be focused.”

Skeene advised that clubs such as Barcelona, Manchester United, Ajax and Santos are good examples of clubs that live and breathe youth development. He also highlighted that Germany’s decision over a decade ago to place focus on producing more technically proficient home-grown players have seen recent benefits at club and country competitions.

“I also wish to remind [clubs] that we must encourage our players to experiment and be creative, not being afraid to make mistakes. Too many times our creative players are being stifled because the focus is purely on winning and not development. These issues are part of a greater awareness that we must have if we are to strive for the excellence that is necessary to effectively take our youth to the stage where they make a smooth transition to senior and international football,” said the TT Pro League CEO.

Wilson scores all 6 for Army
T&T Express Reports.

Justin Araujo-Wilson scored a first half brace, then completed a beaver-trick in the second in netting all six goals in a Defence Force 6-0 rout over Club Sando in the Under-13 division of the Malta Carib 2015 Youth Pro League on Sunday.

Wilson, has so far scored nine goals in three matches this season. He netted two against North East Stars in a 3-3 draw  on match day one and one against Police in a 3-0 win on  match day two. He was  in scintillating form on  match day three  at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium training field on Sunday.

The 12-year-old, a product of SKHY FC, scored in the 9th, 17th, 25th, 41st, 52nd and 63rd minutes against the Sando U-13s, who were previously defeated 8-0 and 12-0 by Caledonia AIA and W Connection, respectively.

Club Sando, however, were able to peg back a 2-1 win over Defence Force in the Under-17 division. Junior Asson netted the second half winner in the 67th minute.

Earlier, Defence Force’s Aaron Skeene (45th minute) levelled Adrian Mc Laren’s (8th minute) opener before the break. Both teams will meet again next week Wednesday to contest their rescheduled Under-15 fixture.

Youth Pro League. This is a joke.

The world-renowned Ibercup USA. With over 350 teams from 50 nations, none of them from Trinidad and Tobago, the Ibercup is the largest and most youth tournament in the world, boasting top teams in the world such as Athletico Madrid, Manchester City, Benfica, Ajax, as well as teams from Germany, Mexico, Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, etc. Every year, famous clubs, football academies from around the globe repeat the experience in this prestigious tournament.

Everyone else sees the importance of this tournament except the great soccer nation of Trinidad and Tobago. I read somewhere where Stern John's academy and Amwood's academy were going to play each other. And the purpose of doing that is what? If you want your program and the kids in the program to enjoy an experience playing against and testing their skills against real competition then this is the tournament you want to register for. This is also a perfect test of how far your program has come. The SSFL should consider registering the champions of the league for this tournament as well instead of wasting peoples time with the nonsense. Some of the so call pro teams with youth clubs can register their youth teams for this tournament. This opportunity can be a wonderful measuring stick for the youth teams and the kids to meet other kids from around the world. The Ibercup is for kids, boys and girls, between the ages of 9 - 18.

You always talking about developing the game but that is just ole talk. You good at that.
I am the punishment of God...If you had not comitted great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you.

I would be interested to find out how many of the 350 teams are self funded. I know that when my son was around 12 his club went to Spain for a tournament. For 6 months the boys held all kinds of fundraising events from sponsored walks to club discos. We even had a Mums vs Dads sponsored match where the Dads had to wear dresses!! Any shortfall was paid by parents.

I recently met a cricket team from Cornwall, England who tour T&T every year for the last 26 years. Most of the cost is raised in similar ways.

My point is that any team can go anywhere if they put in the effort to raise funds, gain sponsorship etc. I know that Central F.C. is struggling to finance our trip to Guyana. No way could we find in excess of $100,000 to send a youth team overseas.

However, I do agree that it would be a good developmental tool
