Long story! We do have a U14 side but they won't be playing this weekend. Still not sure if U16's & 18's will play either. We agreed to move the Pro League game to Sunday to accomodate Army, but explained we couldn't play the youth team games. We have such a small staff that some of them cover both senior and youth, so they couldn't be in two places at once. Once the youth games couldn't be changed, we then said we couldn't agree to move the Pro League game, but apparently, it wasn't a request, but a demand!

We're still in negotiations about the games.

We're vexed because we tried to co operate, but now we are being disadvantaged. We really wanted to assist Army, given the circumstances, but it's not right that we should lose out, especially as Army youth have a bye so they're not affected.

Former W Connection Senior Team players Jose Luiz Seabra (Coach) & Clyde Leon (Assistant Coach)
Rougier is a striker.

seem like  clyde leon done playing ? i see him as under 18 coach

Clyde is under doctor's orders not to play for now so he is being utilised  as an assistant coach at this time.

Any video clips?

As far as I am aware W Connection videotapes all their games Senior, Youth & training games, so I will try to source some highlights.

As mentioned before, we do not have any equipment other than a flip camera. Videos of most matches would be too distant for promotional usage. Obviously, if we were receiving the same TT$80,000 + p.m. as the other clubs, we could invest in equipment. I believe we also have the smallest club staff in the League as well!

FS just get a $200 US video camera + tripod and have someone learn to use it. you can take video from field level and have it look good.

Only US$200? And the editing suite? And someone to film it? And someone to edit it?
It takes me 3-4 hours to make the short videos that we put out. Imagine editing from four 90 minute games! We recognise the value of these kind of videos, but it's just not possible at the moment. Fortunately, we can talk to clubs and colleges who will accept our personal recommendations, so it's not a major issue at Central at the moment.

W Connection’s Herbert nets handful in Youth Pro League.
ttproleague.com.

W Connection got off to a perfect start on Sunday, when the 2014 Youth Pro League season kicked off, with wins at every division.

Connection opened with an incredible 9-0 win over Police at the Under 14’s division with a pair of goals each by Nikel Rawlins (16th and 33nd minutes), Jarelle Steadman (17th and 34th minutes) and Jevaughn Humphrey (40th and 41st minutes), while Kyjuan Sampson(23rd minute), Deneilson Benjamin (44th minute) and Christian Rasome (55th minute) picked up an item each for the Leonson Lewis coached-youngsters.

But at the Under 16 division – coached another former Trinidad and Tobago international, Brian Williams – forward Anthony Herbert was the star of the day netting an impressive five goals (5th, 24th, 32nd, 40th and 55th minutes) while teammate Isaiah Hudson grabbed a double (53rd and 46th minute) in Connection’s 7-0 hammering of Police FC at the St. James Barracks ground.

Then at the Under 18’s/Reserve division, coached by former Connection star players Jose Luis Seabra and Clyde Leon, the Couva based-club wrapped up their trip to north Trinidad with a 3-2 win, which they had to hold on for, following two late goals by Police.

Martieon Watson opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 21st minute, and senior team player Mikaeel Jem Gordon doubled the advantage by the 37th minute, before Yafeu Rougier made it 3-0 a minute inside the second period.

Police stormed back with goals by Andell Andrews and senior team player Christon Thomas in the 77th and 82nd minutes respectively, but were short of the equalizer.

Connection now leads the U-14 and U-16 standings after Round One Match Day One, while rivals San Juan Jabloteh stands at the top of the U-18/Reserve table.

Jabloteh finished 5-2 winners over home-side St. Ann’s Rangers at Trinity College ground in Moka, in a contest inclusive of three penalties and an own goal.

Much earlier in the day, Jabloteh hammered the St. Ann’s club 8-0 in the U13 division, but slipped to a 2-1 defeat in the U-16 division.

Caledonia AIA also got off to a good start with 3-0 and 2-1 wins over Central FC in the U-16 and U-18/Reserve divisions, and won by default in the U-13.

While down at the Mahaica Oval in Point Fortin, home-side and debutants Point Fortin Civic were undefeated against North East Stars.

Civic finished 1-1 at both the U13 and U18/Reserve divisions and edged the Sangre Grande club 3-2 at the U16 level.

Football Supporter I have noticed for the longest while that ever so often you mention about not receiving a subvention from the Government especially when you are challenged about a short coming. Here you go again about a camera, now I can't talk for other clubs but W Connection from inception of the Pro League in 1999 have been video taping all their games, Senior, Youth, Training games, Local, Regional & International. The subvention came into being 4-5 years ago, Connection is celebrating 15 years of existence. Connection puts a lot of emphasis on it's youth programme & they are treated the same as the Seniors hence why in your own words about these video clips being a great marketing tool they are being put out on you tube etc.
As far as I am aware one of the criterion for entering the League was that you had to have a functioning youth program with a separate staff so you went into this with your eyes wide open so I suggest you just suck it in & get on with the job.
By the way seeing you have been doing so well in the League I would have thought that your sponsor SIS would be more than happy to increase whatever they are currently giving to you considering the fact that they seem to be recipients of so many multi billion dollar contracts......come on mate go look for a bigger share of the pie ;)

Soccerama, one of the biggest reasons that the Pro League has stuttered along since 1999 is that too many owners in the past look after themselves first, and the league second. That makes absolutely no sense. Without a strong league, you get weak teams. No club, in my opinion, should receive a subvention. The PRO LEAGUE should receive that money and distribute it fairly where needed.

Why should we "just suck it in & get on with the job."? This is a fact. We have no millionaire owner, so we have to go a find genuine sponsors and deliver on our promises. We will continue to complain about the lack of subvention until this is corrected. We are about improving the league, improving the managing of the league and building the brand. I know that some clubs have tried in the past and failed, but it's in everyone's interests to develop. W.Connection have a great history of winning cups and trophies, but still get less than 50 supporters to games. Historically, Joe Public and Jabloteh had the same issue. We will continue to forge relations with overseas clubs in order to build our brand and create avenues for players to move overseas.

While Connection spend time and money videoing their players, they could have been integrating into their community. All of this govt funding and what do clubs give back? Zilch. We actually have other clubs sponsors approaching us to do community projects. How embarrassing is that?

Meanwhile, of the hundreds of players passing through the club and being videoed, how many have achieved successful careers overseas? Yes, KJ made it in UK, but he was partly developed at Jabloteh, who first sent him on trial to the UK. Videos are nice, but overseas clubs are inundated with videos of the next star player. Without the support of a reference from a credible source, the best you can hope for is a speculative trial.

We may not have the right ideas, but I can see no sense in continuing in the same vein that clubs have done for the last 15 years.

Regarding S.I.S., of course, we'd love them to increase their sponsorship, but that's their decision not ours!

FS, I sense a bit of deflection here ... videorecording is a best practice ... seems to me soccerama is saying ... "hey, we're engaged in a best practice, and have been doing so from the inception and because it's a best practice, you too should pursue it" ...

Fair interpretation or no?

A.S., I think I made it clear that I felt that videos are a good marketing tool? I also said that we would like to do this as well. Whether it takes priority over other areas is maybe where we differ. At this point, given our current budget, we prioritise the promotion of the club as a brand rather than individuals within the club. The marketing of our players is carried out in an entirely different manner. Aside from scholarships, we haven't moved any players yet, but I expect this to change shortly.

Soccerama, I only have true feelings, so they are always revealed. Openness and honesty may get you criticised, but that's preferable to being deceitful, so I'll continue with my true feelings

But you make it sound as if I'm targeting W. You made your points from W's perspective and used them as a model, so I replied in that manner. I have no major gripes with W.Connection, no more than I have with other clubs.

For example, I don't like the numbers of foreign players on their books and I have the same issue with Caledonia.

I do feel that Connection are disappointing in that they could achieve so much more in their community, but I feel the same about Jabloteh, North East, Caledonia, Point Fortin.

And I'm damned sure that the other clubs, including Connection, don't think Central are perfect either!!

Out of all of the clubs, I find the staff of W.Connection to be the most sociable and I always enjoy being around them.
