Petrotrin off to Guyana for pre-season camp
By: Randy Bando (TTFF).

United Petrotrin footballers left Trinidad on Monday for a one week pre-season training camp in Guyana and are expected to face a few of that country’s top local Clubs during their stay.
Marshaled by Coach Brian Williams, the 2006 Toyota Classic Champs are scheduled to kick off their first tour of Guyana on Tuesday with a match against Fruta Conquerors.
Two more matches are scheduled, one on Thursday and another on Saturday against Alpha United and Pele FC respectively before Petrotrin return on the 2nd of April.
A squad of 22 players, most of last season’s roster with a couple of additions has made the trip to Guyana and will stay at the Palace De Leon Suite in Georgetown.
Coach Brian Williams spoke with ‘ttproleague.com’ moments before his 1 pm departure of the Piarco International Airport saying, “It is clear why we chose Guyana for this camp. If you look at Guyana, apart from Jamaica, their football has been improving a lot in Caribbean football and also they have strong support at their games which is healthy for their growth,” explained Williams.
The Toyota Classic winning coach hasn’t yet decided on his final squad for the 2007 season but
assures this would be done after the Guyana camp, “The majority of the players making this trip are from last season. We are now going to face the top clubs in Guyana and after these matches I would have a better idea as to who which players I will be going with in 2007,” ended the former national defender.
United Petrotrin finished last season with the Toyota Classic Trophy but finished to a disappointing 8th place in the League.
