Chelsea rout West Ham to stay on United's heels

LONDON, April 18 (Reuters) - Two spectacular goals from England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips kept Chelsea firmly on Manchester United's heels after a 4-1 win over West Ham United at Upton Park on Wednesday. Victory lifted Jose Mourinho's side, winners of the last two titles, back to within three points of leaders Manchester United with five matches remaining.

Wright-Phillips struck twice in a hectic five-minute spell in the first half during which Argentine Carlos Tevez also netted for the home side. Goals after the break from Salomon Kalou and compatriot Didier Drogba confirmed the vast gulf in class between the sides.

Relegation is looming large for West Ham who are five points adrift of Sheffield United who sit one place above the drop zone.

England midfielder Steven Gerrard scored twice as Liverpool regained third place from Arsenal with a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough at Anfield while Blackburn Rovers overcame bottom side Watford 3-1 at Ewood Park.

Why yuh feel chelsea do it to west ham today? Goal difference could come into play at best for chelsea......cuz as far as it is..thats all they can control. When Man U beat them....they going back to their usual 1-0 self.

I think that soccernet.com did not update their table standings, so that is where I get that 17 from. Thanks for clearing that up!

Dats my point. Even if they do.....dey still have 10+ goals to make up. Unless some team mash in Man U...which not happening....not dis season...and not just so.

If another premiership club doh buy Carlos Tevez before West Ham start playing in de Championship next season (looks to be), I go feel bad fuh him. He score a scorcher today and finally looking like he ketch himself.

T&T welcomes back...the King
