Corneal keeps calm after 3-0 win.
By: Shaun Fuentes (TTFF).

National Under 17 team head coach Anton Corneal wasn’t talking much about his team’s 3-0 shut out of National Super League club Harvard FC on Monday evening as he had the chance to see the young “Soca Warriors” on display for the final time on home turf before their departure for Jamaica on Wednesday to contest the final round of the CONCACAF qualifiers towards the 2007 FIFA Under 17 World Championshop.
Instead, he talked about the team’s sign of being able to pull themselves ahead of a team once the opportunity arose and finish them off.
The same Harvard stopped the locals 2-0 last Thursday but Corneal’s boys lifted their game and were determined to turn the result. Goals came from New York Red Bulls youth player Isaiah Ferguson, Jean Luc Rochford and a first half item by Stephen Knox.
“They showed good character to come back and beat off a group of men that had gotten the better of them less than a week ago,” Corneal told TTFF Media.
“At this point we still won’t make too much of the result but it’s good to see them scoring goals and keeping it tight in defense which is something we have worked tirelessly on. Goalscoring has been one of our lighter areas and we must convert the chances when they come. I think it was a fairly decent performance and result to leave Trinidad on. We have a very big week ahead of us in terms of settling in and preparing for the first match against Costa Rica. The boys are not unaccustomed to playing competitive against international teams and being able to play some of the CONCACAF teams in the Caribbean Cup would have played its part there. We have nothing like stage fright to be worried about. It all comes down to how mentally ready we are and how much we can put all our physical attributes together and deliver as a team out on the field,” Corneal concluded. The team departs for Kingston at 8am on Wednesday.
The real measure of a man's character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.

Costa Rica arrive today for U-17 tourney.
By: Jamaican Observer Newspapers.

Costa Rica's 29-member delegation is scheduled to arrive in Jamaica today for the CONCACAF Group B Under-17 Youth World Cup qualification tournament to be staged at the National Stadium from April 28 to May 6.
The Central Americans are expected to travel west on arrival to the mid-island parish of Manchester, where they plan to have a two-day pre-tournament camp in the parish capital of cool Mandeville.
They will then journey back east to Kingston on Thursday for their first game against Trinidad and Tobago at 5:00 pm on Saturday. Host Jamaica will begin their campaign against Canada on the same day at 7:00 pm.
Trinidad & Tobago will arrive tomorrow, while the USA and Canada are expected here on Thursday.
Five teams - Jamaica, Costa Rica, USA, Canada and Trinidad & Tobago - are seeking to capture three qualifying spots for the Under-17 World Cup in South Korea from August 18 to September 9.
From the Group A tournament played in Honduras earlier this month, the hosts and French-speaking Caribbean neighbours Haiti have advanced to South Korea. World champions Mexico were eliminated from this group. Jamaica are looking to repeat their qualification to the 1999 Under-17 World Cup which was held in New Zealand.
U-17 Boyz motivated at 'power luncheon'
By: By: Jamaican Observer Newspapers.

National Under-17 football captain Dever Orgill said the young Reggae Boyz have been preparing well for the CONCACAF final-round World Cup qualifiers, and the team is looking to even better things.
Speaking at a Milo-sponsored 'power luncheon' and motivational session for the youth team at the Alhambra Inn yesterday, Orgill said "the team will perform to the best of their ability and I know we'll get through what we're working for".
"From the games we played, no team has ever dominated us and... we know that this team is one of the best Under-17 teams that will ever work towards the qualifiers. We're looking towards better things than just to qualify for the World Cup," Orgill added.
As hosts, Jamaica will play the United States, Canada, Costa Rica and Trinidad & Tobago in the tournament that begins on Saturday at the National Stadium. At stake is one of three available spots to the FIFA World Cup later this year.
Guest speaker Dr Kingsley 'Ragashanti' Stewart told the youngsters to always fine-tune their preparations and maintain focus.
"Always be ready to give your best performance," Stewart said.
JFF president Crenston Boxhill, technical director Velibor Milutinovic and coach David Hunt were also at the function.

I suppose playing against hard back man is a good experience but I would have still preferred the last warm up against international opposition.

Yes, international experience is key, although playing against older, strong guys is also good. Anton is doing well. I remember last year he was trying to get these guys to be omitted from the secondary football league. He now realize that the school league does not prepare those guys for INTERNATIONAL football. Look how many years, all those national youth teams that just get beaten over, and over and over in Concacaf tournaments. And the secondary school's league in Trinidad, they are STARS! From Jerron Nixon years come all the way up to now. Various youth teams simply cannot beat Mexico & Costa Rica; year after , year after year. Hopefully, someone in TTFF soon sees Anton's point to get them omit the "TALENTED" young footballers from that secondary schools league. It's a waste of time for good player. Leave that league for mediocore players; average players!!!

While a 16 year entertaining for Malick or Arima, another 16 year knocking on the first team door of Everton or Ajax. They playing in reserve games and are metally training for professional football.
