Only for specialists

Ronaldinho will be one of the main stars taking part in the Free Kick Masters 2007 to be held on December 22 in Houston and is a competition to find the greatest free kick taker in the world.

This will be the second edition of the competition, and one player who surely has to be a contender for the accolade is our very own Ronaldinho. The Brazilian has confirmed his presence in the United States at a special presentation held at the Camp Nou on Friday.

The complete set of entrants has yet to be confirmed, but Ronaldinho knows he will be up against some tough opposition. “There are some very good free kick takers, all those taking part will be good at it” he said. “I like Beckham, Thierry Henry, Roberto Carlos, Márquez, Deco... All of those players can shoot really well.”

Because im a Barca fan i'll want Ronaldinho to win it ,but ah feel Celtic's Shunsuke Nakamura will give him ah test

Ronaldinho's free kicks are shit.
He not consistent at all.
That is why when he finally score one he does go mad.

Deco better than him.

Exactly. De man like a homing missile.

this season Ronaldinho's freekicks have been pretty good. the second half of last season he was pretty bad. But this year he has scored quite a few. Just as important, most are on target. I think Ronaldinho goes mad when he scores...period :) But this is a whole different ballgame. there aren't thousands or millions of peope watching and there is no game on the line. the players are under less pressure..I saw last year's tournament and the kickers were hitting almost every shot on target past the wall and scoring high percentages...there were players I had never even heard of mashing it up. Juninho or Pierre Van Hoijdonk are probably the best freekick takers in a game situation. but outside of a game, there are many who hitting the jep nest 9 out of 10 times. it is a lot fun to watch, cuz the keepers does real fly too..

Juninho stats have it as scoring 2 in every 3 FK's he does take...if he was playing against France in the WC and took the FK instead of Ronaldinho, who knows....dat range is bread and butter for him

Ronald koeman never bend free kick. He simple burst it through the wall and keeper. i.e. The ball, the man in the wall and the keeper usually end up in the goals ;D ;D

Sinisa Mijalovic

Very true...an average defender but an absolute master at FK's. I remember once he score a hattrick of FK's for Inter. I think he have a managerial job there now

Fransisco Arce of Paraguay is also another one

Roberto Carlos is the most over-rated free kick "specialist".
He score one great goal and then proceed to mash up man stones for the rest of his career.

To be a specialist you really need to have a catalogue of freekicks of about 3 -5 because scoring free-kicks is still rare. If Pernambuco scores 2 out of every 3 kicks that would make him a phenomenon.

Some true specialists that I can think of down the years.

Maro - surprised he ent get mentioned.

Zola - the protege was just a master in waiting

Michel Platini - The younger heads need to youtube this guy. Only Maro was better at the time.

Zidane - need I say more

Rivaldo - How soon men forget, also a bicycle specialist

Thomas Haessler - Anybody say "little magaician"?

Baggio - At one time the best there was, absolutely no power the ball would float into the goal.

Lothar Mathaus - power and placement
Andi Brehme - much more than penalties, a genuine specialist.
Mario Basler - super Mario to Bayern Fans
Beckham - can't hate on the dead balls
Stuart Pearce - kinda like R. Carlos, a recognized threat for his power but he used to curl them too.
Figo - seem to remember him scoring some good ones
Mihailovic - nasty racist specialist
Del Piero - Was good enough for Juve to call time on  Baggio
Ronald Koeman -
Pirlo
Stoichkov
Hagi
