Jason Scotland's case dismissed by Home Office

Jason Scotland's case dismissed by Home Office.
Dundee United FC

The effect of this is that the player will be prevented from playing and living in the U.K. with immediate effect. This is despite incredible support from the Scottish public, Scottish football fans, Scottish anti racism agencies, Scottish elected representatives, the Trinidad & Tobago FA and the Vice President of FIFA.
Dundee United Chairman Eddie Thompson said, “We are both disappointed and angry with this decision. We have explained our concerns to the Home Office, particularly the make up of the panel (with five people with a connection to one club) and subsequent comments made by members of the panel on the matter, but to no avail.
The Home Office judgement of June 29th based on the recommendation of the review panel, states that Jason Scotland’s appeal had been refused as he ‘was not of the highest calibre and would not make a significant contribution to the Scottish game.’ It appears that, in the judgement of the review panel he was not good enough for Scottish football. This is after he helped take United to the Scottish Cup Final and into Europe and had been the subject of interest from numerous other Scottish clubs. Just what did he have to do to prove that he was good enough for Scottish football?
Putting aside the loss of a player to United, we must think of the effect on the individual’s life. From being valued by his employer and having a well paid career, a home and partner, he has now been told he is no longer wanted here. One can only imagine how he must feel. When you add to this the work he did to help race relations in the community while in Scotland, one can only wonder how this situation came about.
One can only hope that by us bringing Jason’s case to everyone’s attention, no other individual will have to suffer the same fate, whether he be a footballer or otherwise.
Finally Dundee United Football Club would like to thank Jason for bringing his own brand of football skills, excitement and entertainment to Tannadice Park and for him readily assisting our community programmes. We wish him well for the future. We are frankly astonished that he has been treated in this way (the panel voted five to one against him) and sincerely hope that lessons will be learned to avoid this happening again in the future.” Meanwhile Dundee United will continue to pursue this case through every possible avenue.

Dundee United furious about Scotland's case dismissal.

I just dont get these guys and how could they do this to someone.  I wonder if he is the only person this has ever happened to in the Scottish Football league or are there other players as well that had this injustice happen to them.

Don't worry Jay is big things to come for you still.

I knew the damn Home Office was gonna make an example of him, damn shame!!!!
I hope the anger and disappointment he feels now fuels his desire to go forth and prove to all those doubters that a huge mistake was made.
Anybody know what other options are open to him now, is it just football in trini, or are leagues in other countries open to him? MLS, Germany, Japan?

To be honest, he didn't help his cause much with such an indifferent performance in the Gold Cup either.

Good luck Jason.  Hope you find a new club soon.

Let me just say that Dundee Untied is the ones to blame they bench the man for most of the season and expect the council to believe that he was a hi caliber player come on check the stats and see how much starts he had for them its sad for him but the team sign him to a two year deal and he didn’t have the amount of caps then to play in Scotland but for some reason he still got the permit that was his manager working his magic they should of sign him to a four year deal so when his for years was up he would off gotten his residency.

Well he not looking too good from appearances so go on trials right now.......
He better work harder than ever now to impress because those Scots just labelled him as an underachiever and that won't be good for him in the short term.  I can't see any English Club getting him since the Scots say he not good enuff for their league.

I hear it have openings in Australia if he willing to take a chance on a new league which starting just about now.

Wherever he go nothing but goals will redeem his name.

Bally you are correct. I was thinking the very same thing.
Logically thinking.....There isn't much to show that he really deserved to stay.
What this need to be is an example for other National players to make sure they play in 75% of T&T games and also make sure they perform for their clubs. And it's also good for clubs to recognize that they have to release players to play for their National Teams if they want them continue.

Ah guess he probably regretting de decision he made tuh refuse de call up he get last year when we played Scotland, Iraq etc.

Here are some excerpts:
"Although not in the original squad, Scotland was called up for Sunday’s friendly with Scotland at Easter Road and had been due to join the rest of the party, who were already in this country following last week’s win over Iraq at West Bromwich. However, having travelled home to the Caribbean for a holiday and to visit relatives, he declined the offer of another cap in favour of a break."

“They picked the squad and I wasn’t in. Then a guy from Trinidad gets injured so they call me up and and tell me they want me to play. I say no, I’m going home, I’ve already booked my ticket.
“I don’t see why I should be second choice. It is always the way – I’m the back-up they call. But I’ve scored a lot of goals in Trinidad and now I’m scoring here too and I feel I can be first choice. I’ve never got a consistent run and I don’t know why. Maybe it is just coaches don’t fancy me,” he said.

Agent hits out at British justice
BBC Sports

Jason Scotland's agent has called into question British justice after the striker was refused a work permit to remain with Dundee United.

A Scottish Premier Leauge appeals committee decision about the Trinidad & Tobago international was this week upheld by the Home Office.

But Mike Berry said: "If this is British justice then it stinks.

"Dundee United would not be in Europe and have got to the Scottish Cup final without Jason Scotland."

The panel decided that the 26-year-old had not made an impact on Scottish football, but Berry said "that's an impact if ever I saw one".

United chairman Eddie Thompson has vowed to continue to pursue the case through every possible avenue.

"They have robbed a young lad of his livelihood," said Scotland's agent.

"I was brought up with the message that if you work hard and you are a good citizen then you will be successful, but that didn't work for Jason Scotland.

"He is a young boy of 26 and has made a tremendous impact on the community. They are kicking him out of football - which is disgraceful."
