Keane in the hunt for ex-team-mate Forlan
« on: June 02, 2007, 01:51:21 PM »
Sunderland manager Roy Keane wants Villarreal striker Diego Forlan to be his first major signing of the summer. Keane sounded out the former Manchester United forward about a move to Sunderland last season but was informed the player would not move to the Championship.

However, the Uruguay international is thought to be ready to return to England after his unsuccessful spell at Old Trafford.
The 28-year-old’s stock has risen since then and he was top scorer in La Liga two seasons ago. Keane believes it would take £8million to tempt Villarreal into selling his former Old Trafford team-mate, which Sunderland could afford.

Keane is also interested in West Bromwich Albion’s £4m-rated defender Paul McShane, 21.

just read that sunderland is also lining up a bid for scholes.

Sunderland boss Roy Keane has been linked with a shock $4 million move for former Manchester United team-mate Paul Scholes.

Keane is out to transform the Black Cats into a Premiership force after leading them back to the top flight in his first season in charge.

And signing Scholes would represent a massive coup.

Scholes could now feel the squeeze at Old Trafford despite playing a massive role in United's recent title success.

The 32-year-old even finished third in the PFA's Player of the Year voting.

Sir Alex Ferguson has strengthened his ranks considerably since the end of the season by signing Nani, Anderson and Owen Hargreaves.

And competition for places in the Old Trafford engine room will be tougher than ever next season.

Sunderland will belinked with every fringe and ex United player until next season.

I don't see Scholes leaving as Ferguson rates him too highly and is trying to beef up the squad, not make it thinner.

Also Scholes wants to play out his career at United and then move to Oldham.

A move to Sunderland might happen in a couple of years.
THE WARRIORS WILL NOT BE DENIED.
