Barath to sign deal with leading gear manufacturer

CMC | 29/06/07

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad - Talented senior team opening batsman Adrian Barath left on Thursday for England to sign an equipment contract with a leading brand manufacturer.

The contract is being made possible by former West Indies captain Brian Lara, who will accompany the promising batsman on his trip to London.

While in London, Barath and Lara will seize the opportunity to take in the One-Day International between West Indies and England on Sunday at Lord's. Barath is expected to return home Tuesday.

The 17-year-old right-handed Barath was recently appointed to lead the Under-19 squad in the West Indies three-day and one-day limited overs tournament which bowls off in St. Kitts on July 23.

T&T will play Jamaica in the opening round of the series at Cayon.

Barath tallied 359 runs in the domestic league championship including 143 in the final round of the competition against Comets which enabled Clarke Road United to clinch the title by a mere two points.

In the Secondary Schools League, Barath scored 474 runs including 100 not out against Presentation College, San Fernando.

The affable Barath who is a student of Presentation College, Chaguanas, ended with an aggregate of 392 runs in the Carib Beer Regional Four-Day Series including two centuries with a highest score of 131 against the Leeward Islands at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva.

The pint-sized Barath was expected to be honoured on Friday at the annual prize awards ceremony of the Secondary Schools Cricket League at the Dr Rudranath Capildeo Learning Resource Centre, Couva.

Let the Prince coach him in batting from now, I could just imagine barath in a few years..

God is de BOSS....
